AQUATICS The Oro Valley Aquatic Center is competition-ready and full of family-friendly amenities for guests of all ages! The Aquatic Center is open year-round with an average water temperature of 80 degrees.

Oro Valley Aquatic Center Aqua Zumba The music leads you to move and dance through the water. A fullbody workout for all ages to benefit muscle endurance, cardiovascular efficiency, coordination, balance, increased flexibility, joint mobility and strength. It is a great exercise due to the viscosity of the water, which is the resistance we feel while moving in water. You will love Aqua Zumba!

aquatics Programs Aqua Fit Working in the water will increase lean tissue (fat-free mass) while burning adipose tissue (fat) for energy. It will result in a more effective aerobic capacity, muscle flexibility and joint mobility with a full range of motion. The water buoyancy and resistance will benefit your workout which will be more efficient and challenging.

Aqua Yoga It is a tremendous benefit to practice Yoga in the water. Water buoyancy is more comfortable than on land, and much easier for joint, knee and hip exercise, also will reduce back pain and chronic disease. Water resistance is approximately 12 times more than air.

This resistance will slow the movement down, which is perfect for Yoga. The format focuses on core and stabilizing techniques that unify body movements by coordinating breathing and relaxation.

Water Aerobics and Water Pilates Water aerobics is essentially water exercise performed in fairly shallow water. It is a type of resistance training done mostly vertically without swimming. Pilates is a safe, sensible workout for everyone.

It improves core strength, flexibility, and balance and can help alleviate back pain and other chronic ailments. Pilates dramatically transforms the way your body looks, feels and performs.

Recreation Youth Programs

Oro Valley was named a Playful City USA community in 2011, 2012 and 2013 by non-profit KaBOOM!

Crazy for Horses: Kids Winter & spring Camps Children spend time on horseback, riding both Western and English styles. They will learn about horse behavior, language, interpreting what the horse is thinking, horse care and grooming, equine anatomy, and colors and breeds of horses. They will do crafts, go on trail rides and play games on horseback. Emphasis is placed on the relationship with the horse and safety. There are helmets and boots to loan students who do not have their own. Instructors emphasize safety and are welltrained in their riding discipline.

Recreation Adventures in History & Culture Afterschool Programs This fun and exciting program has two components: gardening and food preparation. During the gardening section, children will learn to plant and harvest crops and what it takes to be a successful gardener in the Sonoran Desert. They will plant crops for the winter/spring seasons. In the food preparation section, participants will celebrate culture, through heritage foods. We will be working with local growers to obtain ingredients for preparing foods in a variety of ways.

She has been the heritage gardener at Steam Pump Ranch since 2009, works with the Mission Garden project in Tucson, is the education coordinator for the Oro Valley Historical Society, and wrote the curriculum for the Tohono O’odham Heritage Garden Grant for the Town of Oro Valley.

TAI CHI – YANG FORM Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese art designed to promote optimal health. It has been extensively researched and documented for its role in enhancing balance and helping the elderly avoid falls. Recreation CHI KUNG (Also known as Qui Gong)

TOTAL BODY TABATA

Chi Kung means energy and breath flowing efficiently through the entire body. According to Eastern belief, breathing is the primary way we bring energy into the body. We extract energy from the breath and store it in the lower abdomen, and the more we can extract and store, the better our physical condition. With Chi Kung practice you will be able to reach into your reservoir to rejuvenate internal energy. All the energy we create gives us the opportunity to stimulate and balance our entire body to make the best of every single day.

Total Body Tabata is achieved through three levels of fitness intensity: beginner, intermediate and advanced. The objective is to give it your all for 20 seconds, followed by 10 seconds of rest. Using this method, four sets of cardio and four sets with equipment (for a total of four minutes) equal one Tabata. Class format includes an energetic warm up (six Tabatas, 24 minutes), followed by eight Tabatas (32 minutes) of targeting different parts of the body, such as the shoulders, glutes and the core, mixed with cardio such as lunges, squats and jumping jacks. The workout concludes with a cool down and final stretch. This is a challenging and fun way to get in a fast workout that actually works! Tabata will continue to burn calories hours after the class. Improves cardiovascular fitness, increases lean muscle mass, and is an effective weight-loss tool. Equipment will be provided.

Pets Dog Obedience with Sublime K-9 Drop-in Obedience Class This is a unique class developed to build a solid foundation in obedience while strengthening the bond between you and your dog. Whether you want to learn the basics or advance to a competitive level of dog training, this is the class for you!

MID-WEEK HIKING PROGRAM Experienced trail guide Joel Woppert will guide hikers along many enjoyable trails in Tucson-area mountain ranges. Participants will gather at Steam Pump Ranch and carpool to the trailhead.

This is an ongoing class. Your dog will be exposed to new dogs and people on a weekly basis. We will teach the basics—sit, down, stay, come, heel, etc.—and we’ll advance you and your dog where needed. We will also give you the opportunity to learn about “dog sports” and guide you in the right direction if you become interested in taking your training a step further.

JJ’s Flyball Dog Training Flyball is the world’s fastest-growing dog sport and is fun for the whole family! Flyball is a relay race for dogs with teams of four racing another team and the clock! It is fast-paced and exciting.
