LA RENTRÉE DE L’EUROPE Cette rentrée 2015 du Parlement européen se fait alors que l’Europe entière est encore sous le coup de l’impact des derniers épisodes liés à la crise grecque et aux solutions d’urgence qu’il a bien fallu trouver en juillet dernier alors que c’est le concept-même de l’Europe des origines qui a bien failli être battu en brèche. Comme ce numéro de rentrée contient aussi l’information sur la distinction de « citoyen de l’Europe » décernée au brillant président de la Commission que fut Jacques Delors entre 1985 et 1995, qu’il nous soit donc permis ici de souhaiter que pour tous ses actes quotidiens, l’Europe ne cesse de s’inspirer des motivations de ses pères fondateurs et d’épouser au plus près les idéaux qui furent les leurs. Lors de la crise de juillet dernier, on a abondamment vu ressurgir la manifestation d’égoïsmes et d’arrogances qui sont aux antipodes-mêmes du rêve européen. Si il advenait qu’on n’y prenne pas garde, si ces attitudes devaient perdurer et s’amplifier, c’est la quintessence de l’Europe qui serait largement remise en cause. Il n’est pas difficile de deviner les suites malsaines qui pourraient en découler. Bien sûr, tout ne se règle pas au Parlement européen de Strasbourg dans ce domaine. Mais puisque c’est ici que souffle la brise de l’Europe des peuples, puisque c’est ici que siège le Conseil de l’Europe, il serait bon que son effet parvienne jusque dans les capitales européennes…

L’Europe est un trésor à conserver et à protéger. Certains l’ont sans doute oublié à un certain moment de juillet dernier et il est bon que cela le leur ait été alors rappelé…

THE PARLIAMENTARY REOPENING OF EUROPE This 2015 reopening of the European Parliament happens as the whole of Europe is still reeling from the impact of recent events related to the Greek crisis, and the emergency solutions that it was necessary to find last July, while it is the very concept of the original Europe that was nearly uprooted. As this autumn issue also contains information on the distinction of "Citizen of Europe" awarded to the brilliant Commission President that Jacques Delors was between 1985 and 1995, so we may be allowed here to wish that for all its daily acts, Europe continues to seek inspiration in the motivations of its founding fathers, and to follow closely the ideals that were theirs. As the July crisis unfolded, we saw resurface the petty selfishness and arrogance that are at the extreme opposite of the European dream. If it so happened that we didn’t pay attention, if such attitudes were allowed to continue and amplify, it is the very essence of Europe that would be largely compromised. It is not difficult to guess the unhealthy consequences that may result. Of course, not everything can be resolved at the Strasbourg European Parliament on this point. But since this is where the wind of the peoples of Europe blows, since this is where the Council of Europe sits, it would be good that its effect reaches into the capitals of Europe...

Europe is a treasure to be preserved and protected. It is likely that some may have forgotten it at some point last July, and it is good that they were reminded of it...

EUROPÄISCHES FERIENENDE Das Ferienende und der Herbst 2015 stehen im Europäischen Parlament noch unter dem Eindruck der letzten Episoden der Notrettung Griechenlands vom Juli, als die Ursprungskonzepte Europas überstrapaziert werden mussten. Unsere Herbstnummer erinnert deshalb die Verleihung der Auszeichnung « Citoyen de l’Europe » (Bürger Europas) an den zwischen 1985 und 1995 amtierenden Kommissionspräsidenten Jacques Delors, womit wir uns von dieser Stelle aus wünschen, dass sich Europa weiterhin von den Idealen seiner Gründerväter inspirieren lässt. Auf dem Höhepunkt der Griechenlandkrise waren zu Hauf Egoismen und Arroganz zu beobachten – da manifestierte sich das genaue Gegenteil dessen, was die Gründerväter Europas im Sinn hatten. Sollten sich solche Verhaltensweisen verfestigen oder gar ausweiten, würde das die Quintessenz der europäischen Idee in Frage stellen. Die ungesunden Folgen einer solchen Entwicklung sind vorhersehbar. Natürlich entscheidet sich nicht alles auf diesem Gebiet im Straßburger Europaparlament. In Straßburg jedoch weht der Atem der Völker Europas. Hier befindet sich der Europarat. Es wäre gut, wenn seine Werte bis in Europas Hauptstädte gelängen.

Denn Europa ist ein Schatz, den es zu bewahren gilt. Allen, die das in den entscheidenden Wochen vergessen hatten, sollte man das in Erinnerung rufen.

FOIRE EUROPÉENNE Du 4 au 14 septembre de 10 h à 19 h. Nocturnes jusqu’à 22 h, les samedis 5 et 12 septembre Journée des Femmes le mardi 8 septembre avec entrée gratuite pour les dames. Journée de la famille avec tarif unique à 5 € le mercredi 9 septembre. Organisé par « Strasbourg Evénements » www.foireurop.com De Bombay à Jaipur « la ville rose », de New Delhi au Taj Mahal, la 83e édition de la Foire européenne de Strasbourg s’annonce chatoyante cette année. Après l’Algérie en 2014, c’est en effet l’Inde qui sera invitée d’honneur de cette manifestation toujours très fréquentée. L’an dernier, l’événement a rassemblé 192 000 visiteurs et 1040 exposants. Des chiffres qui montrent l’attachement des Alsaciens à cette Foire créée en 1932 qui va se transformer cette année à l’instar du quartier du Wacken où elle est installée depuis l’origine. Halls et lieux d’exposition renommés et réorganisés, espace agricole installé à l’entrée, Place Adrien Zeller… Tout est mis en œuvre pour assurer à tous – exposants et visiteurs – un confort maximal et des installations de qualité. « Mode et beauté », « Ameublement », « Artisans du monde », « Habitat, cuisine, salle-de-bains et instruments de musique », les espaces d’exposition déclineront des thématiques bien précises et n’oublieront ni le traditionnel « Jardins des délices » dédié à la restauration ni le hall consacré au pays invité. Gandhi, Bollywood, la Route des Maharajas…

L’Inde y livrera tous ses secrets et pendant onze jours, les fervents d’évasion se laisseront tenter par des miniatures sur soie ou sur papier, des bronzes, des patchworks, des bijoux, des batiks, des tapis faits main… Les amateurs de nouvelles saveurs goûteront aux subtils mélanges d’épices tandis que la troupe de danse Dohad - les Gitans du Rajasthan – donnera un féerique et envoûtant tempo.

A noter aussi, dans le hall 5, l’organisation du fameux Concours Lépine européen au sein d’un espace consacré aux artisans régionaux de la Chambre des métiers d’Alsace. Tout comme l’an dernier, « L’Univers connecté » sera à nouveau au cœur de l’exposition, aux côtés d’autres grandes thématiques telles que « Nature & Art de vivre », « Santé & Nouvelles technologies », « Transport & Industrie » ainsi que « Le monde invente ». THE EUROPEAN FAIR ON INDIAN TIME From Mumbai to "the pink city" Jaipur, from New Delhi to the Taj Mahal, the 83rd edition of the Strasbourg European Fair this year promises to be shimmering. After Algeria in 2014, it is the turn of India to be guest of honour at this always popular event.

"Fashion and beauty", "Furniture", "World craftsmen", "Home, kitchen, bathroom and musical instruments", the exhibition spaces will decline very specific topics and will forget neither the traditional "garden of Delights " in the food hall nor the hall dedicated to the guest country.

Gandhi, Bollywood, the road of the Maharajas ... India will deliver all its secrets and for eleven days, the escape enthusiasts will let themselves be tempted by miniatures on silk or paper, bronzes, quilts, jewellery, batik, handmade carpets ... lovers of new flavours will enjoy the subtle spice blends while the dance troupe Dohad – Rajasthan Gypsies - will deliver a magical and mesmerizing tempo.

INDIEN IST ZU GAST AUF DER EUROPAMESSE Von Bombay bis zur « rosa Stadt » Jaipur, von Neu Delhi bis zum Taj Mahal : Die 83. Straßburger Europamesse hat in diesem Jahr Vielversprechendes zu bieten. Nach Algerien im vergangenen Jahr ist Indien nun das Schwerpunktland dieses stets gut besuchten Stelldicheins im Spätsommer.

Die Zahlen beweisen, welchen Stellenwert sich die Messe seit ihrer Gründung 1932 bei den Elsässern erobert hat, die sich in diesem Jahr erstmals in veränderter Form stattfinden wird – das Messeviertel am Wacken wird umgestaltet. Der Veranstalter wird im Bereich der Place Adrien Zeller alles daran setzen, dass die Besucher unter gewohnt optimalen Bedingungen die Stände besuchen können. « Mode und Schönheit », « Einrichten», « Handwerk der Welt », «Bauen, Küche, Bad und Musikinstrumente» : Die verschiedenen Ausstellungsbereiche sind thematisch klar umrissen, wobei die längst zum festen Programm gehörenden « Jardins des délices » (Gärten der Köstlichkeiten) und die Messehalle des Gastlandes keinesfalls vergessen werden. Von Gandhi über Bollywood bis zur Route der Maharajas : Indien wird uns zwölf Tage lang all seine Geheimnisse verraten.

Wer Fernweh verspürt, lässt sich von Miniaturen auf Seide oder Papier verführen, von Bronzen, Patchwork, Schmuck, Batiken und handgefertigten Teppichen. Liebhaber fremder Genüsse lassen sich von subtilen Gewürzmischungen verwöhnen.

Tänzer aus Dohad, die « Gitans du Rajasthan », garantieren märchenhafte Unterhaltung.

In Halle 5 wird während der Messe der berühmte Concours Lépine ausgetragen, inmitten des Ausstellungsbereichs der elsässischen Handwerkskammer. « Internet und soziale Netzwerke » präsentiert sich wie im vergangenen Jahr neben den Themen « Natur und Lebensart », « Gesundheit und neue Technologien », « Transport und Industrie » sowie « Die Welt erfindet ».

Les œuvres d’Alain Clément et Gabriele Chiari interrogent à l’infini des formes et des matières. Force des sculptures métalliques de l’un, apparente fragilité des aquarelles de l’autre… Tout semble les opposer. La seconde fut l’élève du premier. Certes, ils en « jouent » mais toujours dans le respect de l’impérieuse nécessité du travail de chacun. Ces deux artistes qui ont, chacun, fait l’objet d’une exposition personnelle à la galerie Radial ont en commun une appropriation hors du commun du dessin. Il structure la sculpture dans l’œuvre d’Alain Clément, la plie, la découpe, la place dans le plan ou mur ou l’articule dans l’espace.

The works of Alain Clement and Gabriele Chiari endlessly question shapes and materials. Strength of the metal sculptures on the one hand, apparent fragility of watercolours on the other ... Everything seems to oppose them. The second was the pupil of the first. They "play" off each other, but always respecting the imperatives of each other's work. Both artists have each been the subject of a solo exhibition at the Radial gallery share an extraordinary ownership of design. It structures the sculpture in the

work of Alain Clement, bends it, cuts it, places it in the plan or the wall or articulates in space. It sits just below the surface with Gabriele Chiari. It is born out of watercolour, whereas it precedes shapes with Alain Clement. This raises - in the confrontation of these two plastic universe - the question of the outside and the inside. Worlds are born that tell us about our world and question our not so contradictory contradictions.

Die Arbeiten von Alain Clément und Gabriele Chiari hinterfragen unablässig Formen und Materialien.

Stahlskulpturen auf der einen, Zerbrechlichkeit der Aquarelle auf der anderen Seite - der Gegensatz zwischen beiden könnte scheinbar nicht größer sein. Dabei war der zweite der Schüler des ersten. Gewiss spielen sie damit, aber immer im Respekt der unausweichlichen Notwendigkeit der Arbeit des anderen. Was beide Künstler, denen zurzeit eine Solo-Ausstellung in der Galerie Radial gewidmet ist, gemeinsam haben, ist, dass die Zeichnung eine entscheidene Rolle spielt. Die Zeichnung strukturiert im Werk von Alain Clément die Skulptur, sie faltet, sie zerschneidet, sie ordnet sie in den Raum ein. Bei Gabriele Chiari entsteht sie aus dem Aquarell, während sie bei Clément, der Form vorausgeht. In der Konfrontation der beiden künstlerischen Universen stellt sich folglich die Frage nach dem Innen und Außen. Es entstehen Welten, die etwas über unsere Welt aussagen und unsere Widersprüche in Frage stellen, die vielleicht gar nicht so widersprüchlich sind.

Ces gens sont « singuliers », terme à ne pas confondre avec « ordinaires ». Ils ont parcouru quelques décennies et en portent la trace dans leur corps bien à eux et leurs rides au coin des yeux. Les voici en arrêt à Strasbourg après s’être posés en Allemagne, en Autriche, aux Pays-Bas, en Italie… Ralliant à chaque fois dans leur escouade un ou plusieurs nouveau(x) compagnon(s) bienveillant(s) tout en ciment et en hauteur. Plus de 2 mètres pour le plus grand ! Ils resteront à Strasbourg jusqu’au 15 octobre pour célébrer de leur regard attentif les mille ans de la cathédrale et puis partiront scruter d’autres cieux. « Le quotidien des êtres humains, partout en Europe, m’intéresse, raconte Christel Lechner, l’artiste allemande qui leur a donné formes et couleurs. Ils ne répondent pas aux critères de beauté habituels. Ce sont des personnes réelles. » « Il faut apprendre à regarder, ne pas se laisser tromper par la distance. » Regarder autrui, suivre son regard et observer ce qui capte son attention, redécouvrir la cathédrale et ses abords… C’est le cadeau que nous fait cette exposition insolite.

Urbaine s’il en est car c’est cela une ville : des rues, des monuments, des passantes et des passants.

Ces 56 personnages en béton sont installés Place de la Cathédrale, Place du Château, Place du Marché-aux-Poissons, Place du Cochon-delait, Rue Mercière, Rue du Fossé-des-Tailleurs, Rue des Orfèvres, Rue du Temple-Neuf, Rue du 22-Novembre, Place de la Gare et au Barrage Vauban. Le galeriste strasbourgeois Christophe Fleurov est le commissaire de l’exposition.

INDIVIDUAL BUT NOT TOO MUCH These people are "singular", a term not to be confused with "ordinary". They’ve lived through decades and bear the marks in their own body and the wrinkles around their eyes. Here they come to Strasbourg after visiting Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Italy ...

Rallying each time in their squad one or more new benevolent companion, all in concrete and height.

More than 2 meters for the tallest! They will stay in Strasbourg until 15th October to celebrate with their watchful eyes the millennium of the cathedral and then leave again to scrutinize other horizons. "Lives of human beings, all over Europe, interest me, explains

Christel Lechner, the German artist who gave them their shapes and colours. They do not meet the usual standards of beauty.

These are real people. We must learn to look, to not be deceived by distance". Watching others, following their gaze, and observing what captures their attention, rediscovering the Cathedral and its surroundings... This is the gift this unusual exhibition gives us. Urban if anything, because this is what a city is: streets, monuments, pedestrians and bystanders. Each singular.

JEDERMAN, ABER NICHT ZU SEHR Diese Leute sind ganz normale Menschen aber keinesfalls gewöhnlich. Sie haben einige Jahrzehnte hinter sich und tragen deren Spuren auf ihren Körpern und Fältchen in den Augenwinkeln.

Jetzt machen sie nach Stationen in Deutschland, Österreich, den Niederlanden und Italien auf ihrer Tournee in Straßburg Halt. Jedesmal sind neue Partner mit dabei.

Der Größte misst mehr als zwei Meter. In Straßburg bleiben sie bis zum 15 . Oktober, weil sie die 1000 Jahre Errichtung der Fubdamente des Münsters gebührend feiern wollen und danach zu anderen Horizonten aufbrechen. « Der Alltag aller Menschen in Eurpa interessiert mich », sagt Christel Lechner, die deutsche Künstlerin, die ihnen Form und Farbe verliehen hat. Den gängigen Schönheitsidealen entsprechen sie nicht.

Sie sind echte Persönlichkeiten. Man muss lernen, sie richtig zu betrachten », erklärt sie, « und man darf sich von der Distanz nicht täuschen zu lassen.»

Den anderen betrachten, seinem Blick folgen und erfassen, was die Aufmerksamkeit auf sich zieht, und gleichzeitig das Münster und seine Umgebung neu entdecken : Das ist das Geschenk, das uns diese ungewöhnliche Ausstellung macht. Sie ist urban, weil Straßen, Denkmäler, Passantinnen und Passanten, jeder ein Unikat, gemeinsam eine Stadt ausmachen.

Pour sa 23e édition, le festival « Voix et Route romane » a pris pour thème « Ultra Mare, Rivages » et s’attache à la musique née dans les grandes îles européennes et quelques villes portuaires du moyenâge. Une échappée belle qui fera étape à Venise, le 11 septembre en l’église Saint-Pierre-le-Jeune avec un concert intitulé « Venecie Mundi Splendor » donné par « La Reverdie », groupe italien créé en 1986 par deux couples de sœurs chanteuses et instrumentistes : Claudia et Livia Caffagni, Elisabetta et Ella de Mircovich.

Pour ce concert dédié à une exploration des grands motets vénitiens de la fin du moyen-âge, elles collaboreront avec un grand nombre d’artistes afin de restituer dans tout leur éclat les fastueuses célébrations pour lesquelles ces œuvres ont été composées. Très peu connues, celles-ci ont toutes été écrites dans l’intervalle d’une centaine d’années compris entre les « règnes » des doges Francesco Dandolo (1329-1339) et Francesco Foscari (1423-1457).

Un voyage dans l’espace et dans le temps vers de sérénissimes rivages.

VENETIAN SPLENDOUR For its 23rd edition, the "Roman Voice and Road" festival took the theme of "Ultra Mare, Shores" and explores the music born in the islands and some major European port cities of the Middle Ages. A beautiful hideaway that will step in Venice, September 11 at St-Pierre-le-Jeune with a concert entitled "Venecie Mundi Splendor" given by "The Reverdie", an Italian group created in 1986 by two pairs of sister singers and instrumentalists: Claudia and Livia Caffagni, and Elisabetta and Ella Mircovich. For this concert dedicated to an exploration of the great Venetian motets from the late middle ages, they work with many artists to reproduce in all their splendour the sumptuous celebrations for which these works were composed. Very little known, they were all written within a hundred years between the "rules" of Doge Francesco Dandolo (1329-1339) and Francesco Foscari (1423-1457).

Ausgabe hat sich das Festival für alte Musik « Voix et Route romane » das Thema « Ultra Mare, Rivages » (jenseits des Meers, Ufer) gegeben und stellt Musik, die auf Europas großen Inseln und in den Hafenstädten des Mittelalters entstanden ist, in den Mittelpunkt. Der musikalische Ausflug führt unter anderem nach Venedig. Am 11. September tritt in der Straßburger Kirche Saint-Pierre-le-Jeune das 1986 gegründete Ensemble « La Reverdie » mit dem Programm « Venecie Mundi Splendor » auf. Hinter dem Namen « La Reverdie » verbergen sich zwei musizierende und singende Schwesternpaare: Claudia und Livia Caffagni sowie Elisabetta und Ella de Mircovich.

Gemeinsam mit anderen Musikern bringen sie große venetianische Motetten des Mittelalters zur Aufführung, um den historischen Kontext werkgetreu herzustellen. Diese Werke sind heute kaum bekannt und in einer Zeitspanne von etwa 100 Jahren zwischen der Herrschaft der Dogen Francesco Dandolo (1329-1339) und Francesco Foscari (1423-1457) entstanden.

Eine Reise durch Raum und Zeit, zu erhabenen Ufern.

Une reine par trop oubliée ou jamais sacrée comme elle le laisse ellemême entendre lorsque qu'elle se plait à déclarer qu'elle n'est « jamais devenue une star et (que) personne ne sait exactement pourquoi » mais en une reine qui pourrait très vite prendre possession d'un trône que nombre de critiques lui promettent (à nouveau) déjà grâce à un très réussi Hairless Toys, petit bijou électro du moment dont le succès du single Exploitation ne laisse percevoir qu'une petite lueur de brio. Un grand cru à boire jusqu'au bout d'une nuit, d'une route, d'une envie d'expatriation cérébrale ou plus simplement à boire à la Laiterie, le temps d'un joli soir de septembre.

Hier und da finden sich Akzente wie bei Prince auf Gone Fishing, eine wilde Blondheit, fast zurückgezogen. Sie ist eine vergessene oder ungekrönte Königin und spielt selbst damit, dass sie nie ein echter Star geworden sei, aber niemand genau wisse, warum. Aber eine ungekrönte Königin könnte sehr schnell jenen Thron besteigen, den ihr alle versprechen. Mit dem sehr gelungenen Hairless Toys hat sie ein elektronisches Schmuckstück vorgelegt, dessen Single-Auskopplung Exploitation nicht anders als brillant genannt werden kann. Wie ein Grand Cru aus der Weinflasche, der bis zum Ende der Nacht ausgetrunken werden will. Die Lust, das Innerste nach außen zu kehren, oder schlicht für die Dauer eines schönen Septemberabends in der Laiterie auszutrinken.

ROSY MURPHY GOES FISHING FOR THE ELECTRO CROWN Light and elegant electro-pop, soundscapes between Godard, Fellini and Dan the Automator in Lovage fashion, tonic accents spikes a la Prince, like on Gone Fishing, tawny blond, almost collapsed on itself, Róisín Murphy has everything of the Queen of retro-futuristic underground dancefloors. A queen all too forgotten or never crowned, as she herself points out when she declares that she "never became a star and (that) no one knows exactly why", but a queen who could soon take possession of the throne that many critics have promised her (again), thanks to a very successful Hairless Toys, electro gem of the moment, from which the successful single Exploitation only gives a glimpse of brilliance. A great wine to drink to the end of a night, of a road, a desire for cerebral expatriation, or simply to drink at the Laiterie, the time of a nice evening in September.

LAITERIE 1 3 R u e D u H o h wa l d Samedi 12 Septembre 2015 19h00, Laiterie, Grande Salle « Formation née d'une imaginaire saga néo-médiévale et du réel savoir faire d'une poignée de musiciens réunis par leurs amours métallifères et quelques obsessions », Powerwolf fait partie de ces inclassables musicaux, dont on ne sait trop s'il faut les ranger dans la catégorie métaleux christiques ou bourrins teutoniques se découvrant une puissance vocale incontestable de choeur d'église mais plombée par deux pauvres accords musicaux ressortis d'un vieux placard des années 1980, comme dans le cas d'Amen & Attack. Reste la performance scénique, relativement irréprochable et un public fidèle tant outre-Rhin, où leur cinquième album Preachers of the Night se classe à la première place des charts en 2013, qu'en Suède, où leur dernier né a été enregistré. Pour le reste, une simple affaire de goût et d'oreille que ne manqueront pas de surmonter les plus épris du genre.

Bleibt ihre Performance auf der Bühne, die so ziemlich unerreichbar ist, und ein Publikum, das rechtsrheinisch so treu ist, dass ihr fünftes Album Preachers of the Night 2013 sofort auf Platz eins der Charts schoss, genauso wie in Schweden, wo sie ihr jüngstes Album aufgenommen haben. Was bleibt, ist eine Sache des Geschmacks und der Ohren, die selbst den erprobtesten Fan des Genres fordert.

POWERWOLF ATOMIZES THE SACRISTY "Formation born of an imaginary neo-medieval saga and of the real know-how of a handful of musicians united by their love of metal and a few obsessions", Powerwolf is one of this unclassifiable music, which is unclear whether they fall into the category of Christian metal heads or Teutonic oafs, uncovering an undeniable vocal power worthy of a church choir but weighed down by two poor musical chords dug out from an old 1980s closet, as in the case of Amen & Attack. There still remains a relatively faultless stage performance, and a loyal audience as much in Germany, where their fifth album Preachers of the Night topped charts in 2013, as in Sweden, where their latest offering was recorded. As for the rest, a simple matter of taste and ear that those most enamoured of the genre will surely overcome.

Au plus fort des événements du début de l’été qui ont failli voir l’Europe s’effondrer, paraissant incapable de sauver la Grèce en faillite ou de faire face au problème des embarcations d’émigrants provenant des côtes d’Afrique du nord, les chefs d’Etats et de gouvernements du Conseil de l’Europe ont décerné le 26 juin dernier le titre de « Citoyen de l’Europe » à l’ex-président de la Commission européenne qui, durant dix ans (de 1985 à 1995) a littéralement incarné une période communautaire considérée comme un âge d’or qui a vu se concrétiser le marché unique et la création de l’euro.

At the height of the early summer events that almost saw Europe collapse, appearing unable to save Greece from bankruptcy or to face the issue of the boats of immigrants from the North African coast, the heads of state and government of the Council of Europe awarded on 26th June the title "Citizen of Europe" to the former president of the European Commission, who, for 10 years (from 1985 to 1995 ), literally embodied a community period regarded as a golden age, that saw the concretisation of the single market and the creation of the euro. Now 90 years old, Jacques Delors joins Jean Monnetas one of the founding fathers of Europe, who launched in 1950

the first drafts of what would become the post-war European adventure, and Helmuth Kohl, his long-time friend, father of the rediscovered German unity. Auf dem Höhepunkt der Ereignisse dieses Sommers, als Europas Union zusammenzubrechen drohte und unfähig schien, Griechenland vor dem Bankrott zu retten oder der Massenmigration der Flüchtlinge aus Nordafrika zu begegnen, da zeichneten die Staats- und Regierungschefs des Europarates am 26. Juni den ehemaligen Präsidenten der Europäischen Kommission mit dem Titel « Citoyen de l’Europe » , Bürger Europas, aus. Zehn Jahre lang, von 1985 bis 1995, stand Jacques Delors für einen Abschnitt der Europapolitik, die rückblickend wie eine Art goldenes Zeitalter erscheint : Damals wurden entscheidende Schritte wie der gemeinsame Markt und die Einführung des Euro auf den Weg gebracht.

Jacques Delors, inzwischen 90 Jahre alt, zählt damit wie Jean Monnet zu den Gründervätern Europas, die seit den 1950er Jahren das europäische Projekt auf den Weg brachten und den Kontinent der Nachkriegszeit prägten, ebenso wie Delors’ langjähriger Freund Helmut Kohl, seinerseits der Vater der deutschen Einheit. Der französische Staatspräsident François Hollande begrüßte die Ehrung mit herzlichen Worten: « Als Präsident der Europäischen Kommission hat es Jaqcues Delors zehn Jahre lang verstanden, einen Neubeginn des europäischen Einigungsprozesses und der europäischen Wirtschaftsbeziehungen zu befördern. Mit der Unterzeichnung der europäischen Sozialcharta und der Gründung des ErasmusProgramms erzielte er das unverzichtbare Gleichgewicht.

Sein Interesse gilt der Gerechtigkeit und dem Gleichgewicht.

Er achtet auf die Einhaltung der Erwartungen eines jeden und lässt sich dabei vom europäischen Allgemeinwohl leiten. Als Verhandlungspartner sucht er seinesgleichen mit seiner Fähigkeit zu überzeugen und seiner Sachkenntnis der komplexesten Themen. Jacques Delors inspiriert uns nach wie vor und ist uns ein Beispiel angesichts der Herausforderungen, denen sich Europa heute stellen muss. »

Cette rentrée 2015 est à marquer d’une pierre blanche pour Gianluca Esposito, chef du service « Egalité et dignité humaine » au Conseil de l’Europe (COE). Cela fait vingt ans qu’il a intégré l’institution après un début de carrière au Barreau de Naples, sa ville natale, où il était avocat pénaliste spécialisé en criminalité financière. Sur fond d’opération « Mani pulite »...

Et puis ? « Et puis Strasbourg en 1995 où j’ai fait un stage parce que ma thèse portait sur l’action du Conseil de l’Europe dans le domaine pénal. J’y ai travaillé dans le domaine de la coopération judiciaire en matière pénale d’abord, dans le domaine de la convention sur la nationalité ensuite.

Une expertise qui l’a conduit à Sarajevo où commençait la mise en œuvre des accords de Dayton. « Cette mission m’a beaucoup touché, dit-il, j’appartiens à une génération qui n’a pas connu la guerre et là j’ai été confronté à sa réalité. » Rentré à Strasbourg, Gianluca a été directement impliqué dans les négociations des conventions du Conseil de l’Europe contre la corruption, la cybercriminalité, les violences faites aux femmes, la traite des êtres humains ainsi celle sur le blanchiment d’argent et la lutte contre le terrorisme. Il a aussi œuvré à la création de la commission européenne pour l’efficacité de la justice. Dit comme ça, ce n’est pas « fun »…

Quand il en parle c’est passionnant. « Il s’agit à chaque fois de sujets de société en constante mutation, abordés de manière multidisciplinaire et transeuropéenne à l’heure où nous affrontons une criminalité sans frontières. » Intégré en 2005 au Cabinet de Terry Davis, secrétaire général du Conseil de l’Europe, Gianluca y a suivi les dossiers juridiques et « droits de l’homme ». Il a aussi travaillé à la création de l’ « Ecole européenne de Strasbourg ». « C’était un vrai besoin dans une ville où le nombre de diplomates et de fonctionnaires internationaux est importante. Elle n’avait aucune structure pour accueillir les enfants dont la scolarité avait été entamée dans un autre pays. C’est chose faite depuis 2008 et j’en suis très fier ! » SEPTEMBRE 2015 •

Besoin de prendre du recul ensuite et départ pour le FMI à Washington en 2009, au début de la crise économique. Il a travaillé sur les question d’intégrité financière et de réformes judiciaires en Grèce, en Italie mais aussi en Chine, en Inde, en Iran et au Mali et y a gagné, dit-il, une « ouverture au monde » avant de retrouver le Conseil de l’Europe en mars 2015.

Je suis revenu au Conseil de l’Europe parce que je crois profondément aux valeurs défendues ici, explique Gianluca. Démocratie, Etat de droit, droits de l’homme ne sont pas que des mots.

L’Europe en a de plus en plus besoin car nos sociétés deviennent de plus en plus complexes. » « Pour l’instant, je suis là où je veux être », conclut-il, fort de ses convictions et sans regret pour l’American Dream.

Quant à Strasbourg, il la qualifie de « ville simple et belle à vivre » et surtout riche de lieux de rencontres. Et ça c’est essentiel pour le Méditerranéen qu’il est.

SA TERRASSE PRÉFÉRÉ ? Le Marché Gayot parce que, confie-t-il « j’y ai rencontré ma femme ».

SON RESTAURANT PRÉFÉRÉ ? « L’offre est très variée… Je vais souvent à « La Vignette », 29 rue Mélanie, et quand je veux manger italien, je dine chez « Mamma mia », 17, rue Geiler.

SES RENDEZ-VOUS INCONTOURNABLES ?

And then? "And then, Strasbourg in 1995 where I interned, because my thesis was on the work of the Council of Europe in the criminal field. I worked in the field of judicial cooperation in criminal matters first, and then in the area of the Convention on nationality.

This expertise led him to Sarajevo, which was starting the implementation of the Dayton Agreement. "This mission really touched me, he says, I belong to a generation that has not known war and there I faced its reality". Back in Strasbourg, Gianluca was directly involved in the negotiations of the Council of Europe conventions against corruption, cybercrime, violence against women, trafficking in human beings, as well as the one on money laundering and the fight against terrorism. He also worked on the creation of the European Commission for the Efficiency of Justice. Said like that, it's not really "fun" ... When he talks about it, it's exciting. "It’s always about social issues constantly changing, approached in a multidisciplinary and trans-European manner at a time when we face a crime without borders".

Integrated in 2005 into the Cabinet of Terry Davis, Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Gianluca has followed the legal files and "human rights". He also worked on the creation of "European School of Strasbourg". "It was a real need in a city where the number of diplomats and international civil servants is important. It had no structure to accommodate children whose schooling had begun in another country. This has been in action since 2008 and I am very proud! " Needing to take a step back, he then started at the IMF in Washington in 2009, at the beginning of the economic crisis. He worked on the issue of financial integrity and judicial reforms in Greece, in Italy, but also in China, India, Iran, and Mali, and won, he said, an "opening to the world" before returning to the Council of Europe in March 2015.

“I returned to the Council of Europe because I deeply believe deeply in the values defended here, says Gianluca. Democracy, rule of law, human rights, are not just words. Europe needs them more and more because our societies are becoming increasingly complex".

"Right now, I am where I want to be", he concludes, firm in his convictions and with no regret for the American Dream.

As for Strasbourg, he calls it a "simple and beautiful city to live in" and particularly good to meet people. And that is essential for the Mediterranean that he is.

HIS FAVOURITE RESTAURANT ? "The offer is very varied ... I often go to "La Vignette", 29 rue Melanie, and when I want to eat Italian, I dine at "Mamma mia ", 17 rue Geiler.

GIANLUCA ESPOSITO, « IM EUROPARAT BIN ICH GENAU DORT, WO ICH SEIN MÖCHTE » Es ist ein besonderes Jahr für Gianluca Esposito, Leiter des Bereichs « Gleichheit und Menschenwürde » am Europarat (COE). Seit 20 Jahren arbeitet er nun schon für die europäische Institution, nachdem er seine Karriere in seiner Heimatstadt Neapel als Anwalt begonnen hatte.

Esposito war dort Strafverteidiger mit dem Spezialgebiet Wirtschaftskriminalität. Wie ging es weiter ? « Dann kam Straßburg, wo ich 1995 ein Praktikum absolvierte, weil ich mich in meiner Doktorarbeit mit der Rolle des Strafrechts am Europarat auseinandergesetzt habe », erinnert sich Esposito. « Ich hatte zunächst über die Zusammenarbeit beim Strafrecht und danach über das nationale Vertragsrecht gearbeitet. » Diese Erfahrungen brachten ihn nach Sarajewo, wo er mit der Umsetzung der Verträge von Dayton betraut war. « Diese Mission hat mich sehr berührt. Ich gehöre einer Generation an, die den Kieg nicht erlebt hat und damals war ich direkt mit ihm konfrontiert. » Nach seiner Rückkehr nach Straßburg arbeitete Gianluca Esposito Konventionen des Europarats gegen Korruption, Cyberkriminalität, Menschenhandel und Gewalt gegen Frauen aus, gegen Geldwäsche und Terrorismus. Er arbeitete außerdem an der Gründung einer europäischen Kommission für die Wirksamkeit der Justiz mit. Das sind alles andere als unterhaltsame Themen. Wenn er darüber spricht, tut er das jedoch mit Leidenschaft. «Jedesmal geht es um gesellschaftliche Themen, die sich im Wandel befinden, die wir aus verschiedenen Blickwinkeln und gesamteuropäischer Sicht bearbeiten und das in einer Zeit, in der wir es mit einer Kriminalität zu tun haben, die keine Grenzen kennt. » Seit 2005 gehört Esposito dem Kabinett von Terry Davis, dem Generalsekretär des Europarats, an. Esposito ist dort für die Menschenrechtsthemen zuständig. Unter anderem brachte er auch die Gründung der europäischen Schule in Straßburg auf den Weg. «In einer Stadt wie Straßburg, in der so viele Diplomaten und wichtige internationale Beamte leben, bestand ein echter Bedarf. Es gab keine vergleichare Einrichtung, die deren Kindern eine Ausbildung anbieten konnte, die sie später in anderen Ländern fortsetzen können. 2008 hatten wir es endlich geschafft. Darauf bin ich sehr stolz ! » Er brauchte Abstand und verließ Straßburg 2009 für eine Aufgabe am Internationalen Währungsfonds in Washington. Das war zu Beginn der Wirtschaftskrise.

Dort arbeitete er über Finanzfragen und eine Reform des Justizsystems verschiedener Staaten - eine Aufgabe, die

ihm die Augen zur Welt geöffnet habe, sagt er. Im März 2015 ist er schließlich an den Eurparat zurückgekehrt. « Ich bin bin wieder hier », sagt Gianluca Esposito, « weil ich zutiefst von den Werten, die wir hier verteidigen, überzeugt bin. Demokratie, Rechtsstaatlichkeit und Menschenrechte sind nicht einfach nur Worte. Europa braucht sie dringend, weil unsere Gesellschaften immer komplexer werden. » « Im Augenblick bin ich genau dort, wo ich sein möchte », sagt er, ohne dem amerikanischen Traum hinterherzuweinen.

Straßburg als Stadt empfindet er als unkompliziert.

Er schätzt die vielen Begegnungen mit interessanten Menschen. Das sei das Entscheidende für jemanden wie er, der aus der Mittelmeerregion stammt.

Longtemps pilier du Strissel au pied de la cathédrale, Séverine de Valmigère vole désormais de ses propres ailes puisqu’elle vient d’ouvrir le Rutsch au cœur du quartier de la Krutenau. « J’y pensais depuis la fin de ma collaboration avec Le Strissel » nous dit-elle avec la joie dans les yeux. « Ce fut une recherche très active durant dix-huit mois et puis j’ai déniché l’endroit sur un site internet, c’était un ancien restaurant bio. Il y avait certes beaucoup de travaux à faire mais le potentiel était là… » Ouvert depuis juin dernier, Le Rutsch présente donc une belle carte de cuisine alsacienne qui respecte le rythme des saisons.

la tradition de ces winstub des quartiers strasbourgeois dont le concept tend malheureusement à évoluer un peu trop souvent vers une standardisation manifeste. Rien de tout cela au Rutsch dont la carte évolue avec la météo (« mes légumes viennent de chez Marthe Kehren ,une tenante de l’agriculture raisonnées qui œuvre près de Fessenheim » annonce fièrement Sévérine) et où tout est 100% fait maison sauf bien sûr le pain, les glaces et les sorbets. Un dossier « Maître Restaurateur » est en cours d’évaluation. Le Rutsch propose 50 couverts à l’intérieur, complétés par 24 places en terrasse. La cuisine de Serge Cutillo, l’ex-Chef du Strissel, est déjà plébiscitée grâce à la magie d’un bouche-à-oreille excellent dès l’ouverture.

Parmi la carte, un plat se détache et a déjà fait le buzz : la tête de veau est exceptionnelle, « la meilleure de tout Strasbourg » disent déjà certains… Parmi les spécialités de l’établissement, le Presskopf sauce Gribiche et les Lewerknepfle (quenelles de foie) accompagnées de pommes sautées, dans la plus pure tradition des véritables Winstub strasbourgeoises.

"I’ve been thinking about it since the end of my collaboration with The Strissel" she says with joy in her eyes. "It was a very active research during eighteen months and then I found the place on a website, it was a former organic restaurant. There was certainly a lot of work to do but the potential was there..."

Open since June, The Rutsch therefore offers a beautiful Alsatian cuisine menu that follows the rhythm of the seasons. One clearly feels that its muse wanted to honour the tradition of those Strasbourg neighbourhoods Winstubs, whose concept unfortunately tends to move a little too often towards a clear standardization. None of this at Rutsch, whose menu changes with the weather ("my vegetables come from Martha Kehren, a member of the reasoned agriculture working near Fessenheim" proudly announces Severine) and where everything is 100% homemade except, of course the bread, ice cream, and sorbets. A "Master Restaurateur" application is being evaluated. The Rutsch offers 50 seats inside, complemented by 24 more at the terrace.

The cooking of Serge Cutillo, former head chef of the Strissel, is already receiving praise thanks to the magic of an excellent word-of-mouth right since the restaurant opening. On the menu, a dish stands out and is already the talk of the town: the calf's head is exceptional, "the best in the whole of Strasbourg" some already say ... Among the specialties of the establishment, Gribiche sauce Presskopf and Lewerknepfle (liver dumplings) accompanied by fried potatoes, in the purest tradition of the true Strasbourg Winstubs.

DIE NEUE ADRESSE FÜR REGIONALE UND SAISONALE KÜCHE Nachdem sie lange die tragende Säule des Strissel nicht weit von der Kathedrale war, steht Séverine de Valmigère nun auf eigenen Füßen und hat im Herzen der Krutenau Le Rutsch eröffnet. «Ich dachte schon seit dem Ende meiner Zusammenarbeit mit dem Strissel daran », erzählt sie uns mit leuchtenden Augen. « 18 Monte lang suchte ich intensiv, bis ich diese Räumlichkeiten – früher befand sich hier ein Biorestaurant - auf einer Internetseite entdeckt habe. Natürlich musste jede Menge erneuert werden, aber das nötige Potenzial war vorhanden. » Im Juni hat Le Rutsch nun eröffnet mit einer Karte, die eine schöne Auswahl regionaler und am saisonalen Angebot orientierter Gerichte verspricht. Ganz offensichtlich hat sich die Inhaberin an der Tradition der Straßburger Weinstuben orientiert, deren Konzept inzwischen leider in den alten Standards festgefahren ist. Im « Rutsch » bleiben diesbezüglich keine Wünsche offen. Die tägliche Karte hängt nicht zuletzt vom Wetter ab. Séverine de Valmigère bezieht ihr nämlich Gemüse von Marthe Kehren , die bei Fessenheim zu 100 Prozent Bioanbau betreibt. « Bis auf Brot, Eis und Sorbet wird alles im Haus selbst hergestellt. Der Antrag auf Anerkennung für das Label « Maître Restaurateur » muss noch genehmigt werden. Dafür ist es Vorausetzung, dass ein Großteil der angebotenen Speisen aus eigener Produktion stammt. Le Rutsch verfügt über 50 Gedecke im Gastraum und Platz für 24 Gäste auf der Terrasse. Küchenchef Serge Cutillo, der zuvor in der Küche des Strissel gewirkt hat, hat sich seit der Eröffung des Rutsch bereits einen Namen gemacht. Von allen Gerichten erfreut sich eines besonderer Beliebtheit : Sein ganz ausgezeichneter Kalbskopf. Manche sagen, es sei der beste in ganz Straßburg. Zu den Spezialitäten zählen sein Presskopf und die Leberklößchen (Lewerknepfle) mit Bratkartoffeln, ganz in der Tradition der echten Straßburger Winstub.

Le pont de l'Europe – reliant Strasbourg à Kehl - à peine franchi, apparaît déjà sur la gauche l'un des hauts lieux transfrontaliers dédiés depuis quelques années à la gastronomie. La Villa Schmidt, c'est son nom, a ceci de particulier que celle-ci semble éternellement renaître de ses cendres.

Dirigée depuis près de cinq ans par Daniel Irion de la Halle aux Blés à Obernai, la Villa propose une cuisine italienne raffinée et remarquée jusque dans les critiques d'un Pudlowski séduit mais, également, des brunchs gourmands en plein cœur du Jardin des Deux Rives. Face au Rhin, alors que pointe encore le soleil en cette fin d'été, s'attabler à la Villa a quelque chose de précieux, presque hors du temps, telle une madeleine de Proust que l'on se surprendrait à savourer, loin de toute agitation, tels ces aillade de filet de bœuf et copeaux de parmesan, filet de dorade royale aux artichauts, tomates séchées et riz au safran ou autres côtelettes d’agneau au thym et romarin, accompagnées de leurs légumes de saison. Peut-être aussi une face cachée de ce Strasbourg qui rejoindra physiquement Kehl d'ici peu avec l'ouverture

GOURMET BRIDGE BETWEEN TWO SHORES The Europe Bridge - linking Strasbourg to Kehl - barely crossed, one of those high cross border places dedicated in recent years to gastronomy already appears on the left. The Schmidt Villa, that's its name, is unique in that it seems to be eternally reborn from its ashes. Managed for nearly five years by Daniel Irion of the Halle aux Blés in Obernai, the Villa offers fine Italian cuisine, even noticed in the reviews of a seduced Pudlowski, but also gourmet brunches at the heart of the Jardin des Deux Rives. Facing the Rhine, as the sun still shines in these late summer days, sitting down to a meal at the Villa has something invaluable about it, almost out of time, such as a Proust madeleine that one is surprised to savour, far from all the commotion, such as the beef tenderloin in garlic sauce and parmesan, sea bream fillet with artichokes, sundried tomatoes and saffron rice or still lamb chops with thyme and rosemary, accompanied by their seasonal vegetables. Perhaps also a hidden face of this Strasbourg that will soon connect physically with Kehl with the opening of the new tram line, which should help encourage more exchanges, including gourmet cuisine. A city that, year after year, has managed to outgrow its own borders, to outgrow them as far as this little breath of Italy designed by some French culinary artists on German soil. The icing on the madeleine, it is now possible to travel to this sweet and beautiful place, by inland waterway, with the assistance of Batorama ...

Wer die Europabrücke zwischen Straßburg und Kehl überquert hat, erblickt, kaum, dass er sie hinter sich gelassen hat, eine der wichtigsten hiesigen Adressen in Sachen gastronomisch-grenzüberschreitender Zusammenarbeit. Die Villa Schmidt besitzt die Besonderheit, dass sie ewig aus ihrer Asche wiederaufzuerstehen scheint. Seit mehr als fünf Jahren führt sie Daniel Irion von der Halle aux Blés in Obernai. La Villa bietet eine raffinierte italienische Küche, die sogar der Restaurant-Kritiker Pudlowski mit Wohlwollen bedacht hat, sowie regelmäßig einen Brunch am Zweiufergarten. Direkt am Rheinufer, wenn die spätersommerliche Sonne scheint, bekommt es fast etwas Kostbares, sich hier niederzulassen, außerhalb der Zeit, ein überraschender Genuss wie eine Madeleine bei Proust, fern der städtischen Hyperaktivität, wie das Rinderfilet mit gehobeltem Parmesan, die Dorade Royale mit Artischocken, getrocknete Tomaten und Safranreis oder Lammkotlett mit Thymian und Rosmarin zu Gemüsen der Saison. Eine versteckte Seite Straßburgs zeigt sich hier in Kehl, wohin demnächst auch die Straßburger Tram fahren wird.

Den beiderseitigen Austausch, auch in Sachen Gastronomie, wird sie gewiss fördern. Mit den Jahren hat die Kleinstadt ihre Grenzen zu überwinden verstanden und sogar italienischen Wind hereingelassen, den ein paar französische Künstler auf deutschem Boden praktizieren. Die Kirsche auf dem Kuchen : Ab sofort ist es möglich, mit Batorama auf dem Wasser zu diesem einladenden Ort zu gelanden.

L’Ecole Candice Mack est la première école de maquillage de l’Est de la France. Fondée en 1999, elle forme des élèves du monde entier aux métiers du maquillage professionnel.
