Le printemps le plus chaud On nous l’a dit et redit ces derniers temps : le mois de mars 2015 a été le plus chaud en France depuis les premiers relevés météo qui ont effectués en 1880 ! Episode exceptionnel ou manifestation évidente du réchauffement climatique global : allez savoir… Les Strasbourgeois ne se sont pas posés la question trop longtemps : immédiatement, les restaurateurs ont installé leurs terrasses (ordinairement, c’est un bon mois plus tard…) et les clients ont afflué. Le printemps est peut-être la meilleure des saisons pour découvrir notre ville car, dès que les rayons de soleil deviennent plus chauds, elle sait se rendre accueillante et elle vous invite à profiter de la lumière et de ses beaux jours renaissants.

Bien sûr, nos visiteurs européens mensuels ne voient pas pour autant leur agenda s’allèger. Du côté du Parlement et des autres institutions, cela continue à travailler dur, entre les réunions, les commissions, les votes, les rendez-vous. Aucun sondage n’existe, bien sûr, mais il y a fort à parier qu’à l’instar des Strasbourgeois, nombre de celles et ceux qui nous rejoignent pour chaque session se prennent quelquefois à rêver, leur regard portant bien plus loin que la vue derrière le verre de leur fenêtre.

Osons leur proposer une transgression ! Allez, donnez-vous une ou deux heures de vraie liberté, juste le temps de flâner le long des eaux de la Petite-France ou le long du quai des Bateliers, osez un verre sur une péniche qui y est amarrée. Moins éloignées, il y a les belles allées du Parc de l’Orangerie (à cette saison, les écureuils font le spectacle !). Louez un vélo et pédalez jusqu’au Parc de Pourtalès, calme et chlorophylle assurés… Strasbourg vous fait un clin d’œil printanier. Ne résistez pas…

Jean-luc Fournier THE WARMEST SPRING We have been repeatedly told recently: March 2015 was the hottest in France since the first weather data recorded in 1880! Exceptional episode or obvious manifestation of global warming: who knows...? Strasbourg locals did not mull the question over for too long: immediately, restaurant owners set up their terraces (usually it is a good month later ...) and customers flocked. Spring is perhaps the best season to discover our city because, as soon as the sun's rays become warmer, it knows how to make itself welcoming and invites you to enjoy the light and beautiful days. Of course, our monthly European visitors do not see their agenda lighten for that much.

At the Parliament and other institutions, hard work continues, between meetings, Commissions, votes, and appointments. No survey has been done, of course, but it is a safe bet that, like other Strasbourg residents, many of those who join us each session sometimes take time to dream, their eyes resting far on the horizon behind the glass of their window. Let us dare offer them a little transgression! Come on, give yourself an hour or two of true freedom, just the time to stroll along the waters of the Petite-France or along the Quai des Bateliers, dare have a glass on a barge moored there. Less remote are the beautiful fairways of the Parc de l’Orangerie (this season, the squirrels are the show!). Rent a bike and pedal to the Parc de Pourtalès, calm and chlorophyll are assured... The Strasbourg spring is winking at you.

Directeur de la rédaction d’EUROMETROPOLITAN STRASBOURG Editor / Redaktionsleiter DER HEISSESTE FRÜHLING Man hat es uns in den vergangenen Wochen oft genug gesagt : Dieser März 2015 war der heißeste seit Beginn der Aufzeichnung des Wetters ab 1880! Mag es eine Laune der Natur oder Folge der Klimaerwärmung sein – wie auch immer. Die Straßburger jedenfalls haben sich nicht lange mit dieser Frge aufgehalten : Sie bevölkerten sofort die Straßencafés und Restaurants, denn normalerweise ist es dafür einen Monat später soweit. Vielleicht ist der Frühling die beste Jahreszeit, um unsere Stadt kennenzulernen. Denn sobald die Sonnenstrahlen wärmer werden, zeigt sie sich von ihrer allerbesten Seite. Unserer monatlichen Besucher aus ganz Europa kommen deshalb nicht in den Genuss eines reduzierten Arbeitspensums.

Im Parlament und den anderen europäischen Institutionen wird in Sitzungen und Ausschüssen weiter hart gearbeitet. Leider gibt es keine Umfrage dazu, aber höchstwahrscheinlich träumt sich der eine oder die andere gelegentlich jenseits der Sitzungsräume und Büros hinaus in die Stadt. Wagen wir es also, Ihnen eine Grenzüberschreitung vorzuschlagen. Genehmigen Sie sich eine oder zwei Stunden Freiheit und spazieren Sie durch das Petite France oder entlang des Quai des Bateliers, auf einen Drink in einer der Bars auf einem der Kähne, die dort auf Dauer vertäut sind. Schneller erreicht man den Parc de l’Orangerie (um diese Zeit liefern die Eichhörnchen dem Spaziergänger ein regelrechtes Spektakel). Mieten Sie ein Fahrrad und fahren Sie bis zum Parc de Pourtalès. Ruhe und Grün sind Ihnen dort gewiss. Straßburg sendet Ihnen einen Frühlingsgruß.

Widerstehen Sie nicht.

« Inventer et faire partager » sont les deux mots d'ordre du Shadok, la nouvelle Fabrique du numérique qui vient d'ouvrir ses portes à Strasbourg, sur le bord des Dock's, face à l'UGC Ciné Cité. Shadok ? Un petit clin d'oeil à celles et ceux qui pompent inlassablement.

A ces puiseurs d'improbables et d'utopies qui font avancer, ici en tout cas, notre monde. Parce que telle est l'ambition strasbourgeoise. Comprendre le monde d'aujourd'hui pour mieux bâtir celui de demain. Un regard innovant qui n'a d'ailleurs pas été sans séduire Axelle Lemaire, la ministre française en charge du numérique lors de son passage sur les bords du Rhin il y a trois semaines de cela.

Le Shadok, donc : un lieu résolument ouvert aux habitants, étudiants, artistes, entrepreneurs ou bricoleurs des possibles auxquels se greffent également chercheurs et artistes en résidence dont l'urbaniste visionnaire Luc Schuiten. Ce qui y est recherché ? La rencontre et l'innovation entre l'ensemble de ces personnes, en mode transversal, autour des usages du numérique sous toutes ses formes ; y questionner, sur 2000m2, aussi, la place du numérique dans notre quotidien et ses effets dans la société. Espaces de coworking, pépinière de start-ups portée par l'association Alsace Digital, notamment à l'origine du Hacking Health Camp – l'un des plus importants en Europe aujourd'hui , « loin devant Paris », s'amusent ses promoteurs – et visant à créer une dynamique transversale autour des questions de la santé et du numérique ; mais aussi un Fab-Lab, et autres événements comme le TedX Alsace ou encore l'accueil du volet jeux vidéo du Festival européen du Film fantastique.

Bilan de ces premières actions : le Shadok fait, à peine ouvert, déjà office de vitrine de la French Tech, dont il devrait d'ailleurs sous peu obtenir le label. Et puis, parce que l'équipe en place ne manque pas non plus d'humour, à ce stade de sa croissance, le Shadok, c'est aussi « 457 litres de café, 1228 fautes d'orthographe au mot Shadok, 736 cookies au chocolat ingurgités, 40.000 visiteurs sur le site, 6 projets soutenus, 1 voisine pas contente suivie de 3 policiers et 1 bataille de sabre laser ». Mais surtout, et plus sérieusement, un lieu où rien ne semble impossible, qui, bien loin de diviser, construit, tel un work in progress, la société de demain sur une base horizontale et non plus simplement verticale. Parce que, pour reprendre une devise Shadok, « quand on ne sait pas où l’on va, il faut y aller... Et le plus vite possible ».

É VÉNEMENTS•E VENTS•Geschehen " WHEN YOU DON’T KNOW WHERE YOU’RE GOING, YOU HAVE TO GO ... AND AS SOON AS POSSIBLE " "Inventing and sharing" are the two keywords of the Shadok, the new digital factory that opened its doors in Strasbourg, next to the Dock's, opposite the UGC CINE Cité. Shadok? A small nod to those who pump tirelessly, to these drawers of the improbable and utopias that make our world move, here anyway. Because that is the Strasbourg ambition: understand today's world in order to better build tomorrow’s. An innovative look that has not left indifferent Axelle Lemaire, the French minister in charge of digital, as she passed through the Rhine region three weeks ago.

The Shadok: a place decidedly open to residents, students, artists, contractors or handymen of the possible, onto which also piggyback researchers and artists in residence, including the visionary urbanist planner Luc Schuiten. What is its purpose? The meeting and innovation among all of these people, transversally, around the uses of digital technology in all its forms; to question also, over 2000 m2, the place of digital technology in our daily lives and its effects in society. Cooperative working spaces, incubator of start-ups supported by the Digital Alsace association, most notably at the origin of Hacking Health Camp - one of the largest in Europe today, "far ahead of Paris", its promoters like to joke - and aiming to create a transversal dynamic around issues of health and digital; but also a Fab-Lab, and other events like TeDx Alsace or the hosting of the game part of the European Festival of Fantasy Film.

Assessment of these early actions: Shadok, barely open, already acts as flagship of the French Tech, and should also soon get the label. And because the team in place does not lack humour at this stage of its growth, Shadok is also "457 litres of coffee, 1228 spelling mistakes of the word Shadok, 736 chocolate cookies ingested, 40,000 visitors to the site, 6 projects supported, 1 unhappy neighbour followed by 3 police officers, and 1 lightsaber fight". But above all, and more seriously, a place where nothing seems impossible, which, far from dividing, builds up like a work in progress, the society of tomorrow on a horizontal basis and no longer just vertically. Because, to borrow a Shadok saying, "when you don’t know where you’re going, you have to go ... and as soon as possible".

« WENN MAN DIE RICHTUNG NICHT KENNT, GEHT MAN EINFACH LOS - SO SCHNELL WIE MÖGLICH. » « Erfinden und teilhaben lassen », das sind die Schlüsselbegriffe des Shadok, die neue Straßburger « Fabrik des Digitalen », die an den Straßburger Dock’ gegenüber dem Kino UGC eröffnet hat. Das Shadok ist da für alle, die nie aufgeben, die aus dem Unmöglichen schöpfen und unsere Welt auf diese Weise voranbringen. Darin will Straßburg anderen einen Schritt voraus sein : Die Welt von heute verstehen, um die von morgen aufzubauen. Eine Haltung, die im Übrigen Axelle Lemaire, die französische Ministerin für digitale Kultur, bei ihrem Besuch des Shadok vor drei Wochen nicht gleichgültig gelassen hat.

Wer sich für digitale Technik und Kultur interessiert, der ist im Shadok richtig. Dazu können Anwohner wie Studierende, Künstler, Unternehmer, Bastler, Wissenschaftler und die Künstler « en résidence » wie der visionäre Stadtplaner Luc Schuiten gehören. Nach was sie suchen ? Nach der Begegnung und der Innovation rund um das Thema der digitalen Technik in all ihren Spielarten. Auf 2000 m2 lässt sich herausfinden und erfahren, wie sie unsere Gesellschaft durchdringt.

Hier gibt es Arbeitsplätze, ein Großraumbüro und eine Infrastruktur für Start-ups die vom Verein Alsace Digital,

der aus dem Hacking Health Camp hervorgegangen ist, ausgewählt werden. Gesundheitsfragen kreuzen sich mit digitalen Lösungen, im Fab-Lab lässt sich mit 3D-Druckern experimentieren aber auch das Europäische Festival des fantastischen Films hat hier ein Standbein. Kaum hat es eröffnet, entpuppt sich das Shadok schon als Schaufenster der Initiative French Tech, einer offiziellen Anerkennung für innovative Leuchtturmprojekte.

Das Team des Shadok beweist überdies Humor, wenn es den neuen Treffpunkt folgendermaßen zusammenfasst : « 457 Liter Kaffee, 1228 Rechtschreibfehler, 736 Schoko-Cookies, 40.000 Webbesucher, sechs Projekte, eine unzufriedene Nachbarin gefolgt von drei Polizisten und eine Schlacht mit Laser-Schwertern ». Vor allem aber verstehen die Mitarbeiter das Shadok als einen Ort, an dem nichts unmöglich ist, der nicht spaltet, sondern als work in progress an etwas Neuem arbeitet. An der Gesellschaft von morgen, zum Beispiel, die horizontal, nicht vertikal organisiert ist.

Um es mit dem Shadock zu sagen : « Wenn man nicht die Richtung kennt, geht man einfach los, und das so schnell wie möglich. »

Une seconde flèche en verre, pour la Cathédrale, des feuilles de nénuphars faisant office de toits, des avions de crystal, des « immeubles végétaux », des allées d'arbres longeant un canal mus en habitacles bourgeonnants, des modes de déplacement doux dont certaines esquisses travaillées cette années depuis Strasbourg, pourraient prochainement prendre vie. L'univers futuriste de Luc Schuiten, s'inscrit aux frontières de l'architecture, de l'urbanisme, du paysagisme et de la BD. Un an après avoir entamé une résidence à Strasbourg, après Paris, Bruxelles ou Shangaï, ce tenant du Bio-mimétisme pense et dépeint son Strasbourg, celui de 2115. Une ville nature, en interaction avec le vivant, inscrite dans une vision « positive » proposant « une alternative à la catastrophe ».

Détachée des seuls impératifs de croissance et de consommation portés par les décideurs actuels d'un modèle monde qui s'épuise. Une cité végétale dans laquelle, cet amoureux de Strasbourg, aimerait lui-même pouvoir vivre. Côté public ? Un même sentiment, aussi, tant son utopie séduit.

and comics. A year after starting a residency in Strasbourg, following Paris, Brussels and Shanghai, this adept of Biomimicry thinks and depicts his own Strasbourg, that of 2115. A green city, interacting with the living, inscribed in a "positive" vision offering "an alternative to the disaster". Detached from the growth and consumption necessities supported by the current decision makers of a world model that is dying out, a plant city in which this lover of Strasbourg would himself like to be able to live. What about the public? A similar feeling, such is the appeal of his utopia.

LUC SCHUITEN LÄSST DIE SAAT DER ZUKUNFT AUFGEHEN Eine zweite gläserne Turmspitze für das Münster, Riesenblätter als Dächer, Flugzeuge aus Kristall, Möbel aus Pflanzen, Baumalleen, die still einen Kanal säumen, und Formen der Mobilität, die tatsächlich Wirklichkeit werden könnten. Das futuristsche Universum des Luc Schuiten bewegt sich an der Grenze zwischen Architektur, Stadtplanung, Landschaftsgestaltung und Comic. Nach Arbeitsaufenthalten in Paris, Brüssel und Schanghai entwickelt Schuiten nun eine Vision für Straßburg. Im Jahr 2115 sieht er eine Stadt, die von der Interaktion zwischen Natur und Lebewesen bestimmt wird. Seine Vision des Biomimetismus hält der « Katastrophe eine Alternative entgegen. «Von den heute herrschenden Prinzipien Wachstum und Konsum hat er sich abgewandt, weil er überzeugt ist, dass es sich um ein Auslaufmodell handelt.

Entworfen hat er eine Stadt aus Vegetation, in der er am liebsten selbst leben würde. Seine Vision ist verführerisch.

M u s é e d e s B e a u x - A rt s Pa l a i s d e s R o h a n 2 P l a c e d u C h ât e a u Contact : +33 (0)3 88 52 50 00 Jusqu’au 31 mai de 10 h à 18 h, tous les jours sauf le lundi Réduite à treize tableaux, l’exposition se concentre autour du thème de l’Apostolado réalisé par le peintre espagnol Jusepe de Ribera (1591-1652) lors de ses années romaines. Ainsi nommait-on une série de douze apôtres représentés en autant de portraits auxquels s’ajoutait celui du Christ et parfois ceux de la Vierge et de Saint Paul. De l’Apostolado de Ribera sont exposés six tableaux (cinq saints et le Christ) marqués par un parapet – le cartelino – qui court de l’un à l’autre et témoigne de l’unité de la série. « Saint Jean l’Evangéliste » fut acheté par Le Louvre, « Saint Jude Thaddée » par le musée de Rennes, un troisième apôtre appartient à une collection particulière, un quatrième est conservé dans une église bretonne, un cinquième est à Budapest… Et les voici réunis à Strasbourg autour d’une œuvre de l’artiste acquise en 1890 par les musées de la ville, « Saint Pierre et Saint Paul ». Œuvre de belle tenue, sans doute datée de 1616, juste avant que Ribera ne quitte Rome pour Naples où il prendra ses distances avec le caravagisme de ses années de jeunesse. Aujourd’hui reconnu comme l’un des grands maîtres du Siècle d’or, Ribera n’avait jamais eu droit à une exposition française de belle importance. C’est maintenant chose faite.

AT THE MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS Reduced to thirteen paintings, the exhibition focuses on the theme of Apostolado realized by the Spanish painter Jusepe de Ribera (1591-1652) during his Roman years. Thus was called a series of twelve apostles represented in as many portraits, to which was added that of Christ and sometimes those of the Virgin and Saint Paul. From the Ribera Apostolado six paintings are on display (five saints and Christ) marked by a parapet - the cartelino - which runs from one to the

other and demonstrates the unity of the series. "Saint John the Evangelist" was purchased by the Louvre, "Saint Jude Thaddeus" by the Museum of Rennes, a third apostle belongs to a private collection, a fourth is kept in a Breton church, a fifth in Budapest ... And here they are gathered in Strasbourg around a work by the artist acquired in 1890 by museums of the city, "St. Peter and St. Paul". A work of nice outfit, probably dating from 1616, just before Ribera left Rome for Naples where he would distance himself from the Caravaggism of his youth.

Now recognized as one of the great masters of the Golden Age, Ribera had never been given a French exhibition of beautiful significance. This is now done.

IM MUSEUM DER SCHÖNEN KÜNSTE Nicht mehr als 13 Gemälde umfasst die Ausstellung mit Werken des spanischen Malers Jusepe de Ribera (15911652) zum Thema des Apostolats, die während seiner römischen Jahre entstanden sind. So bezeichnete man die Darstellungen der Apostel, von Christus, manchmal auch der Heiligen Jungfrau und des Apostels Paulus. Von Ribera zeigt die Ausstellung sechs Werke (fünf Heilige und einen Christus), in denen das Motiv durch eine Brüstung gegliedert wird und damit die Serie zu einer Einheit verschmilzt. Den Heiligen Johannes erwarb der Louvre, Judas Thaddeus befindet sich in Rennes, ein dritter Apostel stammt aus einer Privatsammlung, ein vierter befindet sich normalerweise in einer bretonischen Kirche, ein fünfter in Budapest. Nun jedoch sind sie vereint in einer Straßburger Ausstellung und umrahmen das 1890 für das Museum erworbene Bildnis der Heiligen Petrus und Paulus. Das Werk aus dem Jahr 1616 entstand kurz bevor Ribera Rom verließ und nach Neapel ging, um zu den Caravaggisten seiner Jugendjahre auf Distanz zu gehen. Heute gilt Ribera als einer der Meister des spanischen goldenen Zeitalters. Dennoch wurde ihm bislang niemals eine Ausstellung dieses Umfangs zuteil. Ein Missstand, der nun korrigiert ist.

L’édifice a inspiré l’enfant de la cité auquel le musée est dédié.

Il l’a vue avec son œil impertinent, en a fait le motif de plusieurs campagnes publicitaires et lui a dédié un livre où il la transforme tour à tour en en tête de pivert, en chevelure d’apsara, en tant d’autres objets drôles et poétiques…

Génial à tous les coups. A ces brillants clins d’oeil répondent les dessins de John Howe, illustrateur canadien formé aux Arts déco de Strasbourg qui s’est fait connaître par sa direction artistique du « Seigneur des Anneaux » et du « Hobbit ». La cathédrale lui a inspiré un livre où il déroule le « voyage perpendiculaire » d’un jeune garçon du moyen-âge. Sans oublier la nouvelle version de l’horloge astronomique du plasticien Daniel Depoutot renouant avec le thème des danses macabres et les croquis enlevés par l’architecte Laurent Kholer. Kaléidoscope en mille vues atmosphériques dont trente sont présentées ici.

« CATHEDRALLY YOURS » This is a tribute exhibition running until 4th October at the Tomi Ungerer Museum in honour of the thousand years of the Strasbourg Cathedral. "An original play," says curator Thérèse Willer. The building inspired this child of the city to which the museum is dedicated. He saw it with his cheeky eye, made it the subject of several advertising campaigns and dedicated a book to it, in which he transforms it in turn into a woodpecker head, hair of apsara, in other objects as funny and poetic ... Let’s not forget the new version of the astronomical clock of the visual artist Daniel Depoutot reviving the theme of macabre dances and sketches removed by architect Laurent Kohler. « MIT MÜNSTERLICHEN GRÜSSEN » Das Museum Tomi Ungerer ehrt mit dieser Ausstellung, die bis 4. Oktober zu sehen ist, die tausendjährige Geschichte der Fundamente des Straßburger Münsters. « Eine originelle Lesart », verspricht die Leiterin des Museums, Thérèse Willer.

Das Bauwerk hat den Sohn der Stadt immer wieder zu Werken inspiriert. Er erfasste es mit seinem durchdringenden Blick und machte es zum Motiv von Werbekampagnen und widmete ihm sogar ein ganzes Buch, in dem er das Münster auf jeder Seite in etwas Neues und Originelles verwandelte.

Jede dieser Ideen ist brillant geraten. John Howe, der kanadische Illustrator, der an der Straßburger Hochschule der Darstellenden Künste studierte und den man vor allem für seine Gestaltung des Herrn der Ringe oder des Hobbit kennt, verarbeitete es auf seine eigene Weise. Bei ihm ist das Münster Schauplatz der Geschichte um einen kleinen Jungen im Mittelalter. Nicht zu vergessen die Auseinandersetzung des Bildhauers Daniel Depoutot mit der astronomischen Uhr des Münsters in seinen Totentänzen und die Skizzen des Straßburger Architekten Laurent Kholer. Er hat ein Kaleidoskop von 1000 atmosphärischen Ansichten entworfen, wovon 30 in der Ausstellung zu sehen sind.

Les cinq captives auront-elles le cran de quitter leur maître pour la retrouver ? Ecrite par Maurice Maeterlinck, un maître du Symbolisme, cette pièce en trois actes a été mise en musique par Paul Dukas en 1910. Elle est aujourd’hui mise en scène par Olivier Py dans un nouveau spectacle créé cette semaine à l’Opéra du Rhin. Il en a fait un conte musical inquiétant et moderne où le voile se lève sur certains des pans les plus obscurs de l’âme humaine.

ARIANE AND BLUEBEARD Bluebeard did not kill his successive wives. He locked them up in an underground tunnel form which the beautiful Ariadne, sixth wife of the tyrant, would deliver them. Without fear and without reproach, she fears nothing, not even to disobey him.

So she will not hesitate to use the forbidden key to open the dark door behind which the other women are held prisoners.

It is the price of freedom. But it is also terrifying. Will the five captive find the courage to leave their master to find it?

Written by Maurice Maeterlinck, a master of symbolism, this play in three acts was set to music by Paul Dukas in 1910.

Today it is directed by Olivier Py in a new show premiered this week at the Opéra du Rhin. His is a disturbing modern musical tale in which the veil is lifted on some of the more obscure parts of the human soul.

Ohne Angst und ohne Vorwürfe, sie schreckt vor nichts zurück, auch nicht vor dem Ungehorsam. Sie zögert nicht, den verbotenen Schlüssel zu gebrauchen und öffnet die geheime Tür hinter der die anderen Frauen gefangen gehalten werden. Diesen Preis hat die Freiheit.

Aber sie macht auch Angst. Werden die fünf Gefangenen den Mut haben und ihren Herrn verlassen?

Maurice Maeterlinck, ein Meister des Symbolismus, verfasste dieses Stück in drei Akten, das Paul Dukas 1910 zu einer Oper inspiriert hat. Für die Inszenierung, die in dieser Woche an der Rheinoper Premiere feiert, zeichnet Olivier Py verantwortlich. Py erzählt die Geschichte als modernes und beunruhigendes Märchen, das die dunkelsten Seiten der menschlichen Seele enthüllt.

TRICKY IN EUROMED FASHION Orange Blossom is the result of the hectic musical encounter of several departures since the release of their first songs in May 1997 on the Prikosnovénie label. For after a few tours and musical disagreements later, the group must already rebuild itself in 2000 after the departure of singer Jay C. From this second life is born, as in reference to these chaotic times, Everything Must Change, released in February 2005 on Music Bonsai. A mix of influences such as Tricky, Massive Attack, Spicy Box, Asian Dub Foundation and a world music with warm accents, OB then continues to try to find itself and delivers in 2014, Under the Shade of Purple, now with Hend Elrawy at the vocals. A voice unearthed in Egypt, which now establishes itself as a Euro-eastern OB trademark, with a lavish Ya Sidi, complemented by Fatoma Dembele’s beautiful rhythmic percussion. A sound, a voice, sometimes with hints of Dervishes as with Ommaty, which make us cross the seas and cultures to Jerusalem. Beautiful, mesmerizing, like the scent of an orange flower.

Beim Klang dieser Stimme fühlt man sich manchmal an Derwische erinnert. Wie bei Ommaty, die uns Meere und Kulturen durchqueren lassen, bis nach Jerusalem. So schön und einnehmend wie der Duft der Orangenblüte.

Avouons-le tout de go : lorsque l'on est tombé sur l'annonce du ciné concert Soy Cuba, notre attention fut volatile. Et puis, par curiosité, on s'est dit, « bon, jetons quand même un coup d'oeil dessus ». Et là, un truc s'est passé. La force des images en noir et blanc de Mikhaïl Kalatozov, celle de son esthétisme au service d'un archive de la révolution cubaine. Un mouvement de caméra d'une rare subtilité, presque dansant, envoûtant, suivant ces visages d'hommes et de femmes marqués par l'Histoire. Un film, disait Martin Scorsese qui, « s'il avait été montré en 1964, le cinéma aurait été différent dans le monde entier. » Et le tout, mis en musique par Franck et Damien Litzler, les deux musiciens de SZ, au travers de sonorités complexes et variées, au milieu d’instruments divers et de samplers. « Interdit pendant la guerre froide, cet ovni aura attendu quarante ans pour être diffusé et salué comme un film génial, précurseur du cinéma contemporain », relèvent ses promoteurs.

Génial ? Non, bien plus que cela : inestimable, tant cet oeuvre artistique force le respect par sa technicité et son éblouissante sensibilité.

BY MIKHAIL KALATOZOV: MAGISTRAL Let's face it: when we fell on the announcement of the concert film Soy Cuba, we didn’t pay attention. And then, out of curiosity, we said, "Well, let's still take a look at it". That’s when something happened. The strength of the black and white images of Mikhail Kalatozov, that of his aesthetic sense in the service of an archive of the Cuban revolution. A camera movement of a rare subtlety, almost dancing, mesmerizing, following the faces of men and women marked by History. A film, Martin Scorsese said, that "if it had been shown in 1964, cinema would have been different throughout the world". And the whole is set to music by Franck and Damien Litzler, the two musicians from SZ, with complex and varied sounds, amidst various instruments and samplers. "Forbidden during the Cold War, this UFO has waited forty years to be disseminated and hailed as a great movie, a precursor to contemporary cinema",

Mit der Kraft seiner Bilder in Schwarz und Weiß hat Mikhaïl Kalatozov die kubanische Revolution festgehalten.

Seine Kameraführung ist von seltener Subtilität, sie tanzt und begleitet die Gesichter, die von der Geschichte gezeichnet sind. Wäre dieser Film schon 1964 gezeigt worden, sagte Martin Scorsese, hätte er das Kino in der ganzen Welt verändert. Franck und Damien Litzler, die beiden Musiker, die sich hinter SZ verbergen, haben dazu komplexe Klangwelten mit verschiedenen Instrumenten und Samples entwickelt. «Der Film war während des Kalten Krieges verboten, wie ein Außerirdischer kommt dieses geniale Werk nun mit 40 Jahren Verspätung bei uns an - als Vorläufer des modernen Films », sagen SZ. La démocratie-chrétienne, une famille politique très active au cœur du XXème siècle et qui permit à beaucoup de ses membres de s’illustrer en faveur de l’Union européenne au lendemain de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, aura été l’unique bannière politique de Walter Hallstein, cet Allemand né à Mayence le 17 novembre 1901. Professeur de droit puis juriste durant les années de plomb du IIIème Reich allemand, il ne put éviter d’appartenir à plusieurs organisations professionnelles prises en mains par les nazis mais il ne fut jamais membre du Parti nationalsocialiste. Durant la seconde guerre mondiale, il servit comme officier administratif dans la Wehrmacht et fut fait prisonnier par les Alliés au lendemain du débarquement de 1944, alors qu’il servait dans le Cotentin. Secrétaire d’Etat du Chancelier Adenauer en 1951, il négocia pour le compte de la RFA les premiers échanges autour de l’idée de la construction européenne. Il fut le premier président de la Commission européenne de 1958 à 1967, se battant pour préconiser une Europe résolument fédérale, ce projet étant violemment combattu par De Gaulle. Remplacé par le Belge Jean Rey, il siègea ensuite comme député au Bundestag allemand de 1968 à 1972, devenant également président du Mouvement européen.

Walter Hallstein s’est éteint à Stuttgart le 29 mars 1982.

Walter Hallstein died in Stuttgart March 29, 1982.

Jahrhunderts. Nach dem Ende des Zweiten Weltkriegs trug sie maßgeblich zur Entstehung der Europäischen Union bei. Hallstein war Jurist und Professeur während der bleiernen Jahre des Dritten Reichs. Er gehörte mehreren beruflichen Organisationen an, die von den Nationalsozialisten vereinnahmt wurden. Dennoch war er nie Mitglied der NSDAP. Während des Zweiten Weltkriegs hatte er als Verwaltungsoffizier der Wehrmacht gedient und geriet nach der Landung der Alliierten 1944 bei Cotentin in Kriegsgefangenenschaft. Als 1951 die ersten Verhandlungen über den Aufbau einer europäischen Organisation stattfanden, war er als Staatssekretär unter Konrad Adenauer Verhandlungsführer der deutschen Seite. Von 1958 bis 1967 war Hallstein Präsident der ersten Europäischen Kommission und setzte sich als solcher für die föderalistische Organisation Europa sein, ein Vorhaben, dass von Charles de Gaulle aufs Heftigste bekämpft wurde. Nachdem er sein Amt an den Belgier Jean Rey abgetreten hatte, gehörte Hallstein 1968 bis 1972 dem deutschen Bundestag an, hörte aber niemals auf, sich für die Einigung Europas einzusetzen. Walter Hallstein starb am 29. März 1982 in Stuttgart.

Walter Hallstein a reçu dix-huit doctorats d'honneur au cours de sa vie : neuf décernés par des universités européennes et neuf par des universités américaines. En 1961, il reçut le prix international Charlemagne d'Aix-la-Chapelle pour ses efforts en faveur de l'unification européenne.

Walter Hallstein received eighteen honorary doctorates during his life: nine awarded by European universities and nine by American universities. In 1961, he received the International Charlemagne Prize of Aachen for his efforts on behalf of the European unification.

Walter Hallstein wurde im Laufe seines Lebens 18 Mal die Ehrendoktorwürde verliehen : In neun Fällen handelte es sich um europäische, ebenso häufig um amerikanische Universitäten. 1961 erhielt er den Karlspreis der Stadt Aachen für seine Verdienste um die Europäische Einigung.

Walter Hallstein, geboren am 17. November 1901 in Mainz, gehörte Zeit seiner politischen Karriere der Christdemokratie an, einer der wichtigsten politischen Familien des 20.

Du thé, un grand piano, une table, des livres, une fenêtre avec vue sur cour arborée, le soleil du printemps… et Naohiro Ninomyia. Tout en noir, tout en calme, soucieux de trouver les mots justes pour parler de sa vie et de son travail de photographe.

Il vient de Nagoya où il est né en 1969. Fort d’un diplôme en gestion d’entreprise, il a débuté sa vie professionnelle en tant qu’attaché commercial dans une société de matériel téléphonique. Et il a vite compris que « cela ne lui correspondait pas ». Démission, départ vers une laiterie d’Hokaïdo en espérant que la vie agricole serait sa voie.

Mais… « ce n’était pas ça ». La France l’attirait. Il l’a rejointe en 1998. Rouen d’abord. Trop pluvieuse… Perpignan ensuite et un choix à faire : celui d’une formation après avoir passé un an à apprendre le français. Ce sont les Arts qui l’ont retenu et pourtant, dit-il, « je ne savais pas dessiner ». Il a rejoint l’école de Digne-les-Bains, a poursuivi à Montpellier et puis aux Arts Déco de Strasbourg pour s’y former au graphisme afin d’apprendre « le vocabulaire et la grammaire du langage visuel » et de comprendre « la manière de parler avec des images ». « L’école est excellente », dit-il, « et elle permet de toucher à tous les arts, ce que j’ai fait ». De la photographie qui est devenue son métier, il rappelle qu’elle n’est pas que l’acte de photographier. « Elle exige un support, elle sera peut-être encadrée. J’y pense dès que je la « prends ».

Je me conçois comme un fabricant d’objets et non comme un fabricant d’images ». Il est resté à Strasbourg parce que « les gens y sont magnifiques. Sans mes amis je n’aurais pas tenu » et parce que la ville lui « parle ». Elle a une identité alors que les cités japonaises « se ressemblent toutes ».

La cathédrale, il la « goûte » mais ne la photographie pas.

Ses travaux -désormais défendus par une galerie parisienne qui l’a présenté au Grand Palais – restent marqués par le Japon. Toujours en noir et blanc. Toujours en numérique.

D’une grande complexité technique. Des séries telles que celles consacrées au kimono de sa mère (KATAMI) ou à une cascade à l’eau blanchie par un travail à la verticale pratiqué en atelier (TAKI) témoignent de la sensibilité d’un artiste pour qui « esthétique » n’est pas un vain mot même s’il n’a jamais essayé de « faire beau ». Toutes ses photos sont des « traces de sa vie » et la cascade maintes et maintes fois travaillée lui a appris, confie-t-il, « à accepter le hasard et la pesanteur de l’existence »…

Quand on demande à Naohiro ses terrasses et restos préférés à Strasbourg, il reste perplexe.

Pourtant, il en a photographié plusieurs parmi les plus beaux. « C’est peut-être cela qui me manque, dit-il, je devrais sortir plus. » Il n’aime pas les « événements » mais, le Japonais qu’il est, s’émerveille de pouvoir - dans la même rue acheter son pain et aller au cinéma. « Dans mon pays, rien n’est possible si on ne prend pas la voiture. »

With a business management degree, he began his career as a commercial representative in a phone hardware company. And he quickly realized that "it did not fit him." Resignation, departure to a dairy in Hokaido hoping that farm life would be his vocation. But ... "It was not". France attracted him. He came in 1998. Rouen first. Too rainy ... Perpignan next, and then a choice to make: that of a training after spending a year learning French. The arts grabbed his attention and yet, he explains, "I did not know how to draw". He joined the school in Digne-les-Bains, continued in Montpellier and then at Strasbourg AV R I L 2 0 1 5 •

"The school is excellent", he says, "and it allows you to try out all the arts, which I have done".

About the photography that eventually became his job, he points out that it is not simply the act of taking a picture. "It requires a support, it may be framed. I think about it as soon as I "take" it. I see myself as a maker of objects and not as an image maker ".

He remained in Strasbourg because "the people are beautiful. Without my friends I would not have managed", and because the city "speaks" to him. It has an identity, while Japanese cities "are all alike".

The cathedral, he "tastes" it but does not take pictures of it. His work- now championed by a Parisian gallery that presented it at the Grand Palais - remains influenced by Japan. Always in black and white. Always digitally. Of great technical complexity. Series such as the one dedicated to his mother’s kimono (KATAMI) or to a cascading water bleached by vertical working in a workshop (TAKI) testify to the sensitivity of an artist for whom 'aesthetic' is not just an empty word, even if he never tried to "make good." All his pictures are "signs of his life" and the waterfall worked again and again taught him, he says, "to accept the randomness and gravity of existence"...

When we asked Naohiro about his favourite terraces and restaurants in Strasbourg, he remains perplexed. Yet he has photographed several of the most beautiful ones. "Maybe that’s what I miss, he says, I should go out more". He doesn’t like "events" but his Japanese self, marvels at being able - in the same street – to buy bread and go to the movies.

"In my country, nothing is possible if we don’t take the car”.

DIE UNENDLICHKEIT IN SCHWARZWEISS Tee, ein Piano, ein Tisch, Bücher, ein Fenster mit Aussicht auf einen schattigen Hof, die Frühlingssonne und… Naohiro Ninomyia. Er ist schwarz gekleidet, gelassen und bemüht, die richtigen Worte zu finden. Denn er spricht über sein Leben und seine Arbeit als Fotograf.

Naohiro Ninomyia wurde 1969 in der japanischen Großstadt Nagoya geboren. Er studierte Unternehmensmanagement und nahm seine erste Stelle bei einem Hersteller von Telefonzubehör an. Sehr schnell jedoch war er sich im Klaren darüber, dass « diese Arbeit ihm nicht entsprach ». Er kündigte und wechselte in der Hoffnung auf Veränderung – veregblich - in eine Molkerei in Hokaïdo.

Frankreich hatte ihn immer schon fasziniert. 1998 zog er zunächst nach Rouen, das ihm zu verregnet war. Seine nächste Wahl fiel auf Perpignan. Ein Jahr lang lernte er Französisch, um eine zweite Ausbildung beginnen zu können. Er wollte Kunst studieren, obwohl er, wie er sagt, damals nicht zeichnen konnte. Nach Digne-les-Bains und Montpellier setzte Ninomyia sein Kunststudium an der Ecole des Arts Déco in Straßburg fort.

Sein Ziel war es, « das Vokabular und die Grammatik des Visuellen zu erlernen » und zu « verstehen, wie man mit Bildern sprechen kann ». « Die Straßburger Schule ist ausgezeichnet », urteilt er über seine Ausbildungsstätte, « vor allem erlaubt sie es, sämtliche Techniken und Ausdrucksformen auszuprobieren. » Über die Fotografie, die sein Beruf geworden ist, sagt er, sie bestehe gerade nicht aus dem Akt des Fotografierens. « Sie benötigt, etwas, auf das sie sich stützen kann. Das habe ich bei der Planung im Hinterkopf. Ich verstehe mich nicht als jemand, der Bilder herstellt, sondern Objekte. » In Straßburg ist er geblieben, weil er die Menschen hier einfach fantastisch findet.

Aber ohnehin spricht ihn diese Stadt einfach an. « Straßburg besitzt eine eigene Identität », sagt er. « Japanische Städte gleichen sich. »

Das Münster schätzt er, aber fotografiert es nicht.

Japan beschäftigt ihn noch immer. Seine Arbeiten werden inzwischen von einer Pariser Galerie vertreten und waren bereits im Grand Palais zu sehen. Ninomyia arbeitet stets in Schwarzweiß, digital und technisch sehr komplex. Ästhetik ist für den Fotografen keine Spielerei, obgleich er nicht bewusst versucht, schöne Dinge herzustellen. Das hat er mit Serien über den Kimono seiner Mutter oder einen Wasserfall bewiesen, den er später im Atelier weiß nachbearbeitet hat. Seine Fotografien sind Lebensspuren. « Ich habe gelernt, den Zufall und die Last der Existenz zu akzeptieren.»

Wenn man Naohiro Ninomiya danach fragt, welche Cafés und Restaurants er schätzt, reagiert er konsterniert. Obwohl er einige der schönsten fotografiert hat. «Vielleicht ist es das, was mir fehlt », sagt er dann. « Ich sollte wohl mehr ausgehen. » Events mag er nicht, aber er genießt es, dass er in ein und derselben Straße sein Brot kaufen und ins Kino gehen kann. «In meiner Heimat geht gar nichts ohne Auto. »

Il flotte un parfum d’Italie sur la Place du Pont-aux-Chats, aux marges de la Krutenau. Et les beaux jours qui viennent ne feront qu’en renforcer les effluves, soleil et terrasse aidant.

Rendez-vous au « Capriciosa » où tout est fait maison, des pâtes à pizza « longue levée » à la sauce tomate en passant par le pesto, le beurre maître d’hôtel, les panures d’escalopes milanaises… Tout jusqu’aux desserts. L’équipe, tout en sourire, est européenne. Aux fourneaux, Sébastien Finck, Strasbourgeois de souche, à ses côtés, sa compagne d’origine bulgare, Mariya Prihodkova règne sur la salle et concocte de – succulents – desserts. Quant à Danilo Agro, leur pizzaïolo, il est arrivé de Sicile, emportant dans ses bagages quelques recettes de là bas. Cela fait trois ans que l’enseigne est ouverte. Un sacré pari pour Sébastien et Mariya qui se sont lancés après avoir fait leurs premières armes dans quelques une des plus belles adresses de Strasbourg. Et ça marche. Come to the "Capriciosa", where everything is homemade, from the ‘slow rising’ pizza dough to the tomato sauce via the pesto, herb butter, Milan breading cutlets... Everything to the desserts. The team, all smiles, is European. In the kitchen, Sébastien Finck, a Strasbourg native, at his side, his Bulgarian-born companion, Mariya Prihodkova, rules over the floor and concocts - delicious - desserts. As for Danilo Agro, their pizza maker, he arrived from Sicily carrying in his luggage a few recipes from home. It's been three years since the place opened. A gamble for Sebastian and Mariya, who launched it after their formative years in a few of the finest locations in Strasbourg.

And it works. Meeting at Capriciosa are a regular clientele as well as German, Italian, Asian, American, Russian tourists... We can still dine past 10pm on aubergine caviar, a mille-feuilles of Charolais sirloin on onion confit, pasta of all kinds and great pizzas, and let’s not forget the Italian desserts: tiramisu, chocolate fondant, superb Marsala crème brulee and... tutti quanti. The wines, carefully selected by the whole team, are artisanal in origin. Along with the pizza, so invite Sicily in your glass. Its highly flavoured wines will amaze you.

Das Team in Küche und Restaurant besteht aus lauter Europäern. Küchenchef Sébastien Finck stammt aus Straßburg, seine Lebensgefährtin Mariya Prihodkova ist ursprünglich Bulgarin, verantwortet den Service und die Desserts. Danilo Agro heißt ihr sizilianischer Pizzabäcker, der aus seiner Heimat auch ein paar Rezepte mitgebracht hat. Où s'arrêtera Franck Meunier, déjà propriétaire du Café Atlantico, des mythiques Aviateurs, du Barco Latino, des deux Francky’s diner, du S’WackeHiesel et du récent bistrot de quartier en mode cosy-hipster-friendly Mémé dans les orties…

Dernier né de cette liste déjà plus qu'honorable, Le Troquet des Kneckes (traduisible par le « Troquet des potes ») qui en à peine deux mois a déjà réussi à faire oublier l'ancienne enseigne du Grenadier. A peine entré au Kneckes, le principal tour de force de Meunier est peut-être d'ailleurs celui-ci. Entre vieux canapés en cuir, mobilier vintage, îlots de verdure en mode armée mexicaine, carrelages aux accents sud-américains, mur rouges et plafonds graphiques magnifiés par d'imposants lustres funky-aristos surplombant et côtoyant babyfoot géant et têtes de bêtes à cornes sorties d'un univers aux croisements des faune vosgienne et arizonienne, le lieu parvient à réussir ce 52

petit tour de force de vous faire sentir chez vous, comme s'il avait toujours existé. Sur la carte, une cuisine simple mais diaboliquement efficace dont des tartes flamblées que les Strasbourgeois se surprennent désormais à recommander intra muros tant il était depuis quelques années quasi impossible d'en déguster de bonnes au cœur même de la ville. Autres petits plats à la cartes, de copieux brunchs aux noms de quartiers, de savoureux burgers au jambonneau braisé, des Fish & Kneckes aux haricots tempura, un pot au Pho façon Kneckes, ou encore, en dessert, un joli Flotteur d'Alsace en mode sorbet mirabelle arrosé de crémant.

The latest in this already more than respectable list, the Troquet des Kneckes (translatable by the "Mates Cafe"), which has already managed in just two months to push into oblivion the old sign of the Grenadier. Just passed the door of the Kneckes, Meunier’s tour de force may be just that. Between old leather sofas, vintage furniture, green islands in Mexican army style, tiles with South American accents, red walls and graphic ceilings magnified by huge funky-aristocrat chandeliers overlooking and alongside giant football tables and horned cattle straight out of a universe populated by a cross between Vosges and Arizona fauna, the place manages this no small feat of making you feel at home, as if it had always existed. On the menu, a simple but fiendishly efficient cuisine including flambé pies that Strasbourg locals are now recommending intra muros, to their own surprise, as it had been for some years almost impossible to taste any good ones even in the heart of the city. Other dishes à la carte, hearty brunches with neighbourhood names, tasty ham braised burgers, fish & Kneckes with tempura beans, pot au Pho à la Kneckes or, for dessert, a nice plum sorbet float sprinkled with Crémant in Alsace fashion.

Zwischen Ledersofas, Vintage-Mobiliar, grünen Inseln im mexikanischen Stil, Fliesen, die aus Südamerika stammen könnten, roten Mauern und der grafisch gestalteten Decke mit imposanten Lüstern. Dazu ein riesiges Tischfußball und Jagdtrophäen, die mal aus den Vogesen, mal aus den Amazonas-Wäldern stammen könnten : Es ist, als gäbe es diese Koexistenz schon immer. Die Karte ist schlicht gehalten, dafür erstklassig. Denn zum ersten Mal seit Jahren empfehlen die Straßburger wieder ein Lokal mit Tartes flamblées, das nicht weit außerhalb der Stadt gelegen ist. Daneben gibt es zahlreiche kleine Gerichte, einen reichhaltigen Brunch, köstliche Burger mit geschmortem Schinken, Fish & Kneckes mit fritierten Bohnen und als Dessert beispielsweise ein Sorbet von Mirabellen mit Crémant.

Cartes et vues de villes du monde entier sont aussi proposée à l’enseigne du « Livre et de l’Image », de même que des estampes de Dürer à Picasso en passant par Renoir, Manet et bien d’autres. Des pièces plus décoratives aussi telles qu’une belle marine, des fleurs ou des pièces plus ciblées illustrant des métiers, dentistes ou avocats par exemple. Au fait, combien sont-ils tous ces livres ? « Plus de 2 000, 4 000 peut-être répond Michel André, mais le chiffre importe peu… ». « Quoiqu’il en soit, précise-t-il, un très gros tri est fait à l’achat car la restauration coûte très cher et nous ne proposons que des ouvrages en bon état. » Sa quête perpétuelle est celle de

"My father founded ‘Le Livre et l’Image’ more than 40 years ago" says Michel André, who now runs the store with his sister Mireille. "From the beginning, we always offered both old books and prints". "Soon enough, we took into account the presence of the European institutions in Strasbourg, we didn’t confine ourselves to Alsatian only and we were right because it is clear that our customers come from everywhere”.

The shelves are beautiful and give off an atmosphere that we thought was lost forever. By the way, how many are there of these books? « Mein Vater hat den Buchladen vor 40 Jahren gegründet », erzählt Michel André, der heute mit seiner Schwester Michelle die Nachfolge angetreten hat. «Von Anfang hat er nicht nur antiquarische Bücher, sondern auch Stiche angeboten. » Sehr schnell hätten sie auf die Präsenz der europäischen Institutionen in Straßburg gesetzt, und sich damit nicht nur auf typisch elsässische Themen und Motive beschränkt, was sich als richtig erwiesen habe. Ihre Kunden, das zeige sich bis heute, kommen von überall her.

Was sich in ihren Regalen aneinanderreiht, setzt eine verloren geglaubte Atmosphäre frei. Überhaupt, wie viele Bücher stehen hier eigentlich ? « Mehr als 2000, vielleicht 4000 », antwortet Michel André. « Aber die Zahl spielt eigentlich keine Rolle. « Eine strenge Auswahl werde beim Ankauf getroffen. Eine Restaurierung wäre zu aufwändig.

Sie würden schließlich nur Bände in gutem Zustand verkaufen. Unerlässlich ist Michel André auf der Suche nach außergewöhnlichen Einbänden, nach Originalausgaben, vielleicht sogar mit Widmung, einem wertvollen Ex libris oder Lithographien. Es gibt so viele Schätze, die Gefühle hervorrufen und die er deshalb nur direkt im Laden verkauft.
