The Open Road Motorcycle Touring Club's June Club Ride was an exciting and adventurous journey through the picturesque landscapes of Western Australia. Led by Ash and with Chris as the Tail End Charlie (TEC), the group consisted of Hans, Russ, Julie, and the perpetually tardy Jason. Despite the cloudy weather, their spirits were high as they set off from the starting point at the bottom of Toodyay Road.
Leaving the familiar starting point behind, the group roared their engines and headed north towards Bindoon, eager to embark on a day filled with exhilarating rides and unforgettable memories. The winding roads unfolded before them, with the majestic Australian countryside offering a breathtaking backdrop.
After a spirited ride, they reached Bindoon, where they made a muchanticipated pit stop at the renowned Bakehaus. The tantalizing aroma of freshly brewed coffee greeted them as they parked their motorcycles and eagerly made their way inside. The club members exchanged stories, sipped on steaming cups of coffee, and indulged in delectable pastries, refuelling both their bodies and their camaraderie.
With newfound energy, the group continued their journey along the BindoonMoora road. The road meandered through open fields, rolling hills, and captivating landscapes that showcased the raw beauty of the Australian countryside. The hum of the engines harmonized with the rhythmic dance of the wheels on the asphalt, creating a symphony of freedom and adventure.
As they approached Moora, the group decided to take a detour, adding an extra layer of excitement to their ride. Cutting across the picturesque countryside, they revelled in the freedom of the open road, the wind whipping through their hair, and the anticipation of what lay ahead.
Their next destination was Ballidu, a quaint town nestled in the heart of the Wheatbelt region. The group made their way through the charming streets, their motorcycles drawing attention from the locals. A sense of unity and purpose bonded the riders as they explored the town, soaking in its unique character and friendly atmosphere.
With hunger pangs reminding them of the passing hours, the group stopped at the esteemed Cafe of Note in Wongan Hills for a well-deserved lunch. The cozy ambiance, accompanied by the tantalizing aroma of freshly prepared dishes, welcomed the riders. They savoured the delectable cuisine, their conversations filled with laughter and tales of the road.
With satisfied appetites, the group embarked on the final leg of their journey. Riding through the captivating countryside, they traversed the scenic roads of Calingiri, relishing in the freedom that only motorcycling can provide. Despite the overcast skies and occasional raindrops, their spirits remained undampened as they navigated the twists and turns of the road, embracing the beauty of the natural surroundings.
As the day drew to a close, the Open Road Motorcycle Touring Club arrived in Toodyay, their final destination. The sense of accomplishment and camaraderie was palpable as they parked their motorcycles, reflecting on the incredible memories they had created together. The rain had managed to largely avoid them throughout the day, a stroke of luck that had enhanced their enjoyment of the ride.
The June Club Ride had been a resounding success, thanks to the leadership of Ash, the diligent presence of TEC Chris, and the unwavering enthusiasm of all the participants. Each rider had experienced the thrill of the open road, the warmth of friendship, and the joy of exploring Western Australia's stunning landscapes. It was a day that would be etched in their memories, reminding them of the unbreakable bond shared among motorcyclists who seek adventure and the freedom of the open road.

I suspect that three typed editions (number one shown at right and number two bottom left) might be the oldest we have.

Note the logo and the black swan; symbolic of WA. Back in those days pictures were cut and pasted (literally) before photocopying.
In March 1983, the magazine shown at the bottom right was entirely hand had become more sophisticated with a stiffer

So… I’ve been rummaging through the archives again (but this time not just about me) and have found a few interesting things to share.

In July 1986, Nic and E-J showed up as visitors time but it appears they weren t chosen.

In 1991 a different coloured card started to be used for the cover.

In January 1992 updated our logo and Ross re-rendered his sketch from 1988.

Hans was nominated to become a member.

In October 1997 the logo was added to the cover and a lighter blue card started to be used (below).

The Social Rides became more official in 2006 (above and below).

Mal showed up in 2006 (left) and promptly became a member (below).

The coloured logo didn’t print well on blue card, but in 2017 we got our first colour printer & started printing the light blue to reflect what we had in the past. We dropped the blue this year to save on expensive toner.
A few years ago the Club voted to hold a competition to redesign our magazine cover. No entries were received so the closing time was extended and still no entries were received.

Then, a few months ago the cover was raised again at a meeting, with the outcome being that we’re open to suggestions at any time for a re-vamped cover to be proposed.

Just keep in mind toner costs.
