The Council of 101’s annual spring fundraiser has been managed by Charlie Miller, owner and president of Miller, Hamilton & Company, Inc. of Chapel Hill, North Carolina since 1996.

A long time antiques appraiser and consultant, Miller was born in North Carolina and bought his first major antique at age 14. He graduated from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history. Miller has widened his education by also studying art, music, religion, literature, zoology, chemistry, and botany.

In 1979, he began working in the antiques retail business and continued by exhibiting at shows nationally in 1984. An expert show manager, Miller began managing shows for nonprofit institutions in 1992 and now operates the largest aggregate of art, antiques, interior design, landscaping design, and gourmet shows in the country.

Miller’s appraisal services began in 1979 after training and association with the international Society of Appraisers. His expertise is in American furniture before 1940 and he maintains a great interest in post-impressionist American paintings from the South after WWI as well as southern pottery.

He lectures on furniture styles, methods of construction, and how to recognize the authentic antique from the fake. He currently resides in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
