THE POE TRIPTYCH trip·tych /ˈtriptik/ noun ​a set of three associated artistic, literary, or musical works intended to be appreciated together. ​

For the month of November & in honor of THE POE TRIPTYCH, our friends at Vanbarry’s will support Orlando Fringe through the sale of ‘THE RAVEN’. Proceeds from every purchase of ‘THE RAVEN’ will be donated to Orlando Fringe.

Dramaturgical Note The Poe Triptych is an adaptation of the short story William Wilson.

For each of the three pieces we drew concept and language from other works in Poe’s canon, as well as historical documents.

FRINGE& has teamed up with Intimacy Director Felichia Chivaughn to bring you a short 101 course. During this 60 minute presentation you will learn about the role of intimacy directors in your productions, why you should hire one, and how to find one. There will be a brief Q&A following the workshop.

FRINGE& is defined as experiential learning opportunities for artists, patrons, and the community. Opportunities include, but are not limited to: workshops for artists and patrons, panels, summits, potlucks, prop swaps, speed networking and mentor opportunities.

Meet the Cast & Creative Team Katie Hartman (Creator/Performer) KATIE HARTMAN is a New York-based theatre maker whose work has been seen Off-Broadway and on stages across the United States and Canada. She is co-artistic director of the Coldharts, an internationally touring theatre company that creates ensemble-devised, new music theatre inspired by the American Gothic. Since 2012, the Coldharts have created and toured five original musicals spanning the genres of folk, pop, punk and rock, with over 300 performances on the neo-vaudevillian circuit. In addition to composing for the Coldharts' work, Katie has created music for NYC theatre companies Animal Engine (Darlings, Rabbit, Henrietta Solway) and Bread Arts Collective (Candide.) Recent New York credits include Henrietta Solway, a new work inspired by the life and stories of Willa Cather (commissioned by the Willa Cather Foundation,) The Unrepentant Necrophile at HERE Arts Center, and Edgar Allan at Soho Playhouse. She received her B.A. in Theatre Arts from the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities, and is a founding producer of the Twin Cities Horror Festival. Katie is proud to be an advocate for independent theatre artists as the Producer of the Cincinnati Fringe Festival, a position she has held since 2022.

Nick Ryan (Creator/Performer) NICK RYAN is a theatre artist based in New York State. Selected playwriting credits include Long Wharf Theatre, The Guthrie Theater, Shakespeare & Company and Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park. In 2015 he co-created an immersive adaptation of Jules Verne’s 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea for Children’s Theater Company in Minneapolis, Minnesota; in 2022 the show was licensed by Broadway Asia. He is Co-Artistic Director of The Coldharts, whose work has been featured at HERE Arts Center in NYC, The International Edgar Allan Poe Festival in Baltimore, and on National Public Radio’s “Poe Theater On The Air.” Nick is a company member of the Brooklyn-based Bread Arts Collective and co-founder of Four Humors Theater in Minneapolis. When Nick isn’t performing and creating theater, he cooks nightly dinners for the Deep Space/Slow Time theatre residency program at North American Cultural Laboratory in Highland Lake, NY.

Mark Benzel (Creator) MARK BENZEL is a theatre maker and teacher with a yin for collaborating and creating new work across disciplines. Mark has trained extensively in physical theatre and clown-training internationally at the Burlesk Center with Pierre Byland and with Philipe Gaulier. He has brought his curiosity and playfulness as a performer/creator devising numerous shows and structures through improv, movement, and writing. Sample projects include Attenbrough: Improvised (Huge Theatre), The Seven Shot Symphony (2011 Ivey Award Winner) and The Sparrow (Live Action Set).

Houdini, Little Pilot, Unspeakable Things, and The Horse, The Bird, The Monkey and The Dancer (Sandbox Theatre), The Big Show (Jon Ferguson Theatre/WLDRNSS), My Life is All but Over (Dolan//Heeringa). As a collaborative director and creator Mark has worked on projects such as The Rule of Three (Four Humors) and notably with his ongoing collaboration with Brooklyn-based duo The Coldharts on Eddie Poe, Unrepentant Necrophile, and the much lauded Edgar Allan, which has received top awards at numerous Fringe Festivals in the U.S. and Canada.

Marge Ryan (costume designer) MARGE RYAN got her start as a 4H-er, organizing and running the 4H fashion show in Arlington, Minnesota. She went on to teach sewing and tailoring as educator for 35 years. As a costumer she has worked for Four Humors Theater in Minneapolis, and as the principal designer for all three shows of The Poe Triptych. In her spare time she is passionate about cooking, baking, daily Wordle challenges, and volunteering for the Assistance League of Minneapolis/St Paul in providing grants to public schools for arts and literacy.

Sondra Veldey (hat maker) SONDRA VELDEY has designed for the Jungle Theater, Minnesota Opera, Four Humors Theater, and the Guthrie Theater. She received her education at the University of Minnesota.

Rachael Shane (mask maker) RACHAEL SHANE is a NYC based puppeteer. She has performed with Basil Twist (The Rite of Spring, 2013, Sister’s Follies, 2015, Symphonie Fantastique, 2018), Julie Atlas Muz and Matt Fraser (Jack and The Beanstalk, 2017, 2018), Chris Green (Firebird, 2013, 2015), Lake Simons (Carnival of the Animals 2015-18, The Jewel Casket, 2014), as well as multiple projects with Puppet Kitchen. Shane was part of the interactive theatrical production Pips Island 2017-20. Shane runs an artists residency program called The Freight Project at Hubbard Hall in Upstate New York. She has a BFA in Drama from UNC School of the Arts. The Collective is a deep dive incubator program designed to grow artistic companies and organizations who want to reach the next level and produce full-run productions at Fringe ArtSpace. In May 2023 and after interviewing over 50 applicants, three incredible organizations were chosen to participate in the inaugural season of “The Collective” incubator program at Fringe ArtSpace. Along with participating in learning and workshop sessions, each group will create productions that will become the core artistic product for the Fringe ArtSpace season beginning in Spring 2024.
