hen asked to share a brief timeline of key milestones and successes in his career thus far, Orlando Comas says, “50 years cannot be explained briefly, but perhaps the most important series of moments has been the sound relationships I’ve built with my clients, particularly those who come to the table with something to say. I could not ask for more.” Upon further exploring the landscape architect’s perspective, the value he places on client involvement becomes clearer. “I do not believe in imposing a style,” Comas says. “I try to work with my clients to discover their needs, likes and dislikes. They must end
up with a project they enjoy and will make good use of.” Although he has created stunning commercial and hospitality spaces as well, Comas focuses primarily on high-end residential because of the close relationship with clients. Asked for the advice he gives each one, he says, “Many people do not understand the distinction between a landscaper, landscape designer and landscape architect,” he says. “I constantly explain and advocate for knowing this, because only landscape architects are regulated and licensed by the state. We are equipped not only to design beautiful places, but to expertly handle grading and drainage, irrigation, lighting, hardscape, etc.”

Besides designing its outdoor environments, pools and fountains, I also created a large-scale nursery. Name influences and inspirations that inform your work. Living abroad and traveling to other countries has enriched my professional design intellect.
