COMPANY HISTORY

Maynilad was established in 1997 following the privatization of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (“MWSS”). In 2007, after a change in ownership and reprivatization, Maynilad became jointly owned by Metro Pacific Investments Corporation (“MPIC”) and DMCI Holdings, Inc. In 2013, Marubeni Corporation of Japan joined as a strategic investor.

Since then, the company has executed a plan to modernize its infrastructure, expand service coverage, and improve water quality and reliability across its concession area.

Maynilad’s concession areas cover 17 cities and municipalities and include portions of Manila, Quezon City, Makati, Parañaque, Muntinlupa, Pasay, Caloocan, Valenzuela, Las Piñas, Malabon, and Navotas, as well as several cities and municipalities in Cavite Province.

facilities continue to supply water that meets the Philippine National Standards for Drinking Water.

INVESTMENT IN WASTEWATER FACILITIES

In wastewater management, Maynilad has expanded its network and treatment capacity in compliance with MWSS and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (“DENR”) requirements. It operates multiple wastewater treatment Facilities, contributing to improved sanitation and environmental protection.

The Las Piñas Water Reclamation Facility, a vital wastewater treatment and rehabilitation project for Manila

Bay, is expected to begin operations by July 2026. It has a daily treatment capacity of up to 88 million liters of wastewater, serving approximately 360,000 residents across 20 barangays in Las Piñas City.

COMMITMENT TO ESG

PLDT ACTIVATES GOOGLE LASER SITES

PLDT and Google are in the process of delivering connectivity across oceans and mountains – without cables.

PLDT is activating the Philippines’ first three Google Taara laser communication sites, bringing breakthrough technology that delivers fiber-like connectivity without the need for complex and expensive undersea or underground cables.

Developed by Google’s X Moonshot Factory, Taara uses beams of light to transmit data across long distances. Each site can deliver up to 20 Gbps of capacity - enough to provide highspeed internet for thousands of users.

The first installations are at Talim Island in Rizal, Dipaluda in Isabela,

A GAME-CHANGER BEYOND SPEED

“This is a game-changer for us in connecting remote areas,” said PLDT Chief Operating Officer and Head of Network Butch Jimenez, “It makes it easier to provide fiber-like internet to new areas. And we’re excited for the people of Talim Island and Dipaluda to enjoy the benefits of FTTH connectivity.”

PLDT AND SMART’S TRANSITION TO SMARTER,

GREENER ENERGY

PLDT and Smart have partnered with Meralco’s local supply arm, MPower, to transition to smarter and greener energy solutions.

The group is activating 144 cell sites and nine facilities under the Energy Regulatory Commission’s Retail Aggregation Program (“RAP”).

RAP - a government initiativeoffers end-users a smarter way to manage their energy requirements by allowing them to aggregate multiple accounts under the same franchise area and purchase power in bulk from licensed retail electricity suppliers. This setup enables reduction of electricity costs and better control over energy sources and usage across different facilities.

RELIABLE POWER AND STRONG DIGITAL CONNECTIVITY

“Our Group has always believed that national progress depends on two essential foundations: reliable power and strong digital connectivity. One cannot function without the otherhand in glove, so to speak - and both are critical to ensuring that our people - especially those in the margins - have access to opportunity,” said Chairman and CEO of PLDT, Smart, and Meralco, Manuel V Pangilinan. “This is why this collaboration is consequential, because it reflects our continued effort to align our resources and capabilities, to serve our customers better with reliable and consistent power and connectivity.”

PLDT and Smart’s transition into RAP through MPower’s energy solutions cover a total demand of over 2,500 kW across the PLDT Group’s integrated network. Additional rollout across more sites in Visayas and Mindanao is targeted for the end of 2025.

PLDT Chief Operating Officer and Head of Network Menardo G Jimenez, Jr. noted, “As we future-proof our network to deliver 5G and AI capabilities to our customers, we are also mindful of the cost to operate the network and our impact to the environment. This partnership with MPower will allow us to operate a smarter and greener network and manage our energy costs, all in a manner that is more kind to the planet.”

SWITCHING TO RENEWABLES

PLDT and Smart’s RAP activation builds on their continuing transition to the use of renewable energy sources. In 2024, 30 sites of the group were switched to 100% renewables - 24 in Metro Manila and six in Mindanao. In 2023, PLDT and Smart tapped geothermal energy for five network facilities in the Visayas.

Parallel to the transition to renewables, PLDT and Smart have been adopting green technologies and optimizing resources for their network sites, business offices, and key facilities nationwide.

The PLDT Group follows a decarbonization roadmap that aims to reduce its Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2030, coming from a 2019 baseline. These efforts support the global ambition to achieve Net Zero by 2050. <<

PLP BUILDS SINGAPORE’S LOW-CARBON FUTURE

Developing a hydrogen-ready combined cycle gas turbine plant

PacificLight Power Pte. Ltd. (“PLP”) has been awarded the right to build, own, and operate a hydrogen-ready Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (‘CCGT”) facility on Jurong Island, southwest of Singapore. The Energy Market Authority (“EMA”) announced the award on 3 January this year. This March, PLP issued a conditional letter of award to a consortium, comprising Mitsubishi Power Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd. and Jurong Engineering Limited for a project equivalent to approximately US$564 million for design, engineering, supply, procurement, construction, installation, testing and commissioning of the CCGT plant.

THE LARGEST, MOST EFFICIENT IN SINGAPORE

The facility will be the largest single, and most efficient, state-of-the-art CCGT in Singapore, with capacity of 670MW. The new plant will play a critical role in strengthening Singapore’s energy security, enhancing grid stability, and advancing the nation’s transition towards a low-carbon future. It is scheduled to begin operations in the first quarter of 2029.

INTEGRATING HYDROGEN-READY AND BATTERY STORAGE TECH

The plant will be capable of using at least 30% hydrogen at inception and will have the ability to ramp up to 100% hydrogen in the future depending on market and regulatory demands. The facility will include a large-scale Battery Energy Storage System (“BESS”) – the first CCGT in Singapore to be integrated with BESS. The system stores power during periods of low electricity demand.

At the core of MPIC’s business is a sustainability governance framework that weaves economic, environmental, social, and governance (“EESG”) principles into both strategic planning and daily operations. <<

“ SUSTAINABILITY IS A STRATEGIC IMPERATIVE FOR US - AND IT’S DEEPLY INTEGRATED INTO HOW WE OPERATE. OUR SUCCESS IS MEASURED NOT ONLY IN FINANCIAL TERMS, BUT IN HOW WELL WE CONTRIBUTE TO IMPROVING THE LIVES OF FILIPINOS - AND THIS DISTINCTION AFFIRMS THE WORK OUR PEOPLE HAVE DONE. WE’RE GRATEFUL TO THEM, AND TO CORPORATE GOVERNANCE ASIA FOR RECOGNIZING THE WORK WE DO. ”

MPIC Chairman and CEO Manuel V Pangilinan

Pangilinan honored with Gintong Alon Leadership Award

On 14 June 2025, First Pacific Managing Director and CEO Manuel V Pangilinan was honored with the Gintong Alon Leadership Award during the Philippine Association of Hong Kong charity ball held in Hong Kong.

The award is in recognition of MVP’s impactful support to Overseas Foreign Workers (“OFWs”) worldwide.

Pangilinan addressed the gathering, “I am deeply moved by a recognition such as this - coming from a place where I lived for 22 continuous years, and from people whom I care for dearly. There may be some doubt in my heart as to whether I deserve this award - over other Filipinos who have served, and continue to serve, here in Hong Kong. But there is no question about my pleasure and pride in receiving it.

VITAL SERVICES AND SACRIFICES

“So, I accept this award on behalf of all the workers here, simply as a trustee and steward for all the services and sacrifices they have given - for their families, to Hong Kong, and for our country.

“Let me just highlight how important you are as an economic contributor to the Philippine economy. In 2024, official inward remittances totaled 38.34 billion US dollars - equivalent

to about 10% of our country’s Gross Domestic Product in nominal terms. The money our foreign workers send represents the largest single business in the Philippines - and its biggest employer, supporting around ten million people.

LIFE AND WORK IN HONG KONG

“Hong Kong is where I started my real career and built my adult life in 1976. This is where I learned how to survive on my own - personally and professionally; to compete with some of the best bankers, lawyers, accountants, and business people in the world; to enjoy the perks of a first-world cosmopolitan city; to be intimate with dark nights of loneliness, with work as one’s major source of solace and happiness; to survive illness with no one to care for you; to rise above the struggles of careerand thrive.

“My life and work are simply a metaphor of your own.”

“Here in Hong Kong, we have built something lasting - thousands of small parts that can be traced to our long

days and nights in offices or homes we worked or lived in. I first arrived here in 1976 to work with Bancom International in Connaught Centre in Central - then the tallest building. From there, we moved to the Central Building along Pedder Street, where First Pacific was born in just 50 square meters of space, with six people. Then on to Worldwide House, and finally to the 24th floor of Two Exchange Square, where we’ve been since 1985.

“As I look back almost 50 years ago - to 1976 - I can only say in closing that time has indeed moved on, as it always does. My career has taken on a different direction, as has Hong Kong. I have moved back to our country – though not quite entirely, as I am here once a month. But this award tells me how much those 22 years mattered. That they weren’t just a chapter in a young man’s life, or an interlude in a lifelong career. They were priceless. The lessons that Hong Kong taught me about business and about life fill me with a sublime gratitude I cannot express.

“So, tonight is a night of thanksgiving for the workers in Hong Kong.

GREATNESS OF HEART AND SPIRIT

“The circumstances of your work and lives might be different today from when I was here - but your mission as OFWs, and your commitment to your families and to the Philippines, remain immutable and inviolate. As OFWs, we continue to be charged with doing our appointed tasks with quality and excellence - no matter the place or the time. To hold up to the world the Filipino greatness of heart and spirit, of courage and compassion. You are our country’s bright lights of hope - worthy of emulation and valued for your immense contribution.” <<

As it approaches two decades of dedication to food research, the Indofood Riset Nugraha (“IRN”) program continues to nurture the next generation of food researchers to strengthen Indonesia’s food security.

Riding on the momentum of World Food Day 2025, celebrated on 16 October, Indofood launched the 2025–2026 IRN program through an MoU signing ceremony with the selected student researchers. Echoing the World Food Day theme ‘Joining Hands for Better Food and a Better Future,’ IRN underscores Indofood’s long-standing commitment to advancing food research and innovation.

The program highlights the importance of collaboration in building sustainable food systems and ensuring access to nutritious food for all. Through IRN,

Indofood reiterates its vision as a Total Food Solutions company.

STUDENT PROPOSALS UP 20%

This year, IRN saw an encouraging growth in participation, with 735 research proposals submitted from 135 universities, a 20 percent increase from the previous year. This growing enthusiasm reflects a rising interest among students in functional food innovation and in the potential of Indonesia’s diverse local ingredients.

The rigorous selection process involved a multidisciplinary expert panel across various fields, including food technology, agricultural

economics, animal husbandry, nutrition and health, fisheries and biotechnology evaluated all proposals. From these, 96 proposals were chosen to receive research funding. Each participant will benefit from funding and mentoring by the IRN Expert Team through two stages of evaluation, along with soft-skills professional research training.

OUTSTANDING PROJECTS RECOGNIZED

At the 2025 MoU ceremony, IRN also recognized four Best-selected Researchers from the 2024–2025 cycle for their outstanding projects, ranging from plant-based dairy alternatives and functional eggs to sustainable farming systems and probiotic culture development.

SUSTAINABLE STEEL RECYCLING

Good for business; good for the environment

MPIC, Mitsui, and SteelAsia have joined forces in rethinking how steel is sourced, used and reused in the Philippines.

On 20 August 2025, MPIC entered a Memorandum of Understanding with a unit of Mitsui & Co. (Asia Pacific) (“Mitsui”) and SteelAsia Manufacturing Corporation to explore the creation of a closedloop steel recycling system that supports a circular economy. Under the proposed model, MPIC and its operating companies will identify the volume and types of steel scrap generated within the MPIC Group. Mitsui will integrate and manage the flow of recovered scrap to SteelAsia, which will manufacture high-quality “green steel” products for potential use in future infrastructure projects.

This initiative will maximize the value of steel, reduce the reliance on newly mined materials, cut carbon emissions, and keep resources in continuous productive use.

LESS EXTRACTION, FEWER EMISSIONS, STRONGER SUPPLY CHAINS

“This initiative goes beyond just recycling, it represents a fundamental shift on how we approach sustainable growth,” said MPIC Chief Finance, Risk, and Sustainability Officer June Cheryl Cabal-Revilla. “A closed-loop system for steel means less extraction, fewer emissions, and stronger local supply chains. This model delivers lasting value for the economy, the environment and our communities.”

This effort is in alignment with MPIC’s sustainability framework, which integrates economic, environmental, social, and governance (“EESG”)

principles into both strategic planning and daily operations.

A SHARED VISION

SteelAsia President Sean Andre Y Sy expressed a positive outlook about the collaboration: “We find ourselves in good company with MPIC and Mitsui who share our commitment to adopt sustainability as one of their core values. By recycling domestic waste, together we advance the country’s economic development in the best way possible.”

“What makes this steel recycling system even more sustainable is that it produces green steel through SteelAsia’s low carbon emission technology–good for business and good for the environment,” he added.

Mitsui Branch General Manager Kazuhiro Nomura added, “We are pleased to announce the signing of a MOU with MPIC and SteelAsia for the joint study on closed-loop steel recycling. By leveraging Mitsui’s extensive experience in scrap and steel trading, we aim to realize this initiative and contribute to the creation of a more sustainable society.” <<

Shore It Up! extends to Marinduque

The Philippines’ beautiful island province of Marinduque is the latest recipient of Metro Pacific Investments Foundation’s (“MPIF”) flagship conservation program.

Shore It Up! (“SIU”) was officially expanded in August 2025 in a partnership between MPIF and the Provincial Government of Marinduque (‘PGOM”). Under the agreement, the partnership will implement the Marine Protection, Inspection, and Conservation Guardians program across key coastal regions. Twelve Marine Guardians will be trained, funded and deployed to safeguard marine ecosystems and support coastal law enforcement.

Marinduque, known as the heartshaped island of the Philippines, is surrounded by significant waters and borders the Verde Island Passage, recognized as the most biodiverse marine habitat in the world.

SERVING BOTH THE ENVIRONMENT AND TOURISM

Marinduque Vice Governor Bacorro expressed gratitude for the initiative and its impact on the province, saying: “It is truly an honor for us to have an initiative like this that serves both the environment and tourism, and we look forward to the expansion of this program here in Marinduque. We are sincerely grateful for the many blessings made possible through the support of Mr. Manuel V Pangilinan.”

The launch weekend was a threeday series of activities dedicated to marine protection, conservation, and

community engagement with 600 volunteers.

Volunteers gathered for simultaneous coastal and underwater clean-up drives, collecting and segregating 559 kilograms of debris for data recording. The weekend also engaged the youth through the Junior Environmental Scouts program, where more than 200 students took part in sessions on environmental stewardship.

To complement the activities, mWell, MPIC’s digital healthcare platform, rolled out a two-day check-up teleconsultation program, providing free medical consultations and basic medicines to local residents, promoting both environmental sustainability and community wellbeing.

MPIF President Melody del Rosario summarized, “Shore It Up! has always been about enabling communities to protect the marine resources that sustain them. By launching SIU in Marinduque, we are uniting local government, experts, and communities to work hand in hand for conservation.” <<

Strength and unity in the season of giving

Christmas support initiatives by First Pacific Group companies in the Philippines have a special significance this year.

It has been a very challenging period of natural disasters, with successive earthquakes and typhoons bringing devastation.

The PLDT-Smart Foundation (“PSF”), together with the group’s CSR arm, Tulong Kapatid, has mobilized to support communities in crisis.

Their collective action aims to remind affected families that they are not alone - and that the season of giving continues to shine even in times of disaster.

GIFT PACKS, JOY AND HOPE

The initiative is named Paskong Kapatid (‘Brotherly Christmas’)

- a yearly outreach that brings Christmas joy and hope to Filipino families. This year, it is extended to disaster-affected families, with the distribution of food packs and toys. Employees and partners of the companies take an active part in volunteering time and effort to share care and encouragement with communities on the ground. The initiative seeks to uplift spirits, spark

smiles, and help families rebuild hope.

TYPHOONS AND EARTHQUAKES

The Philippines’ natural disasters have, unfortunately, been all too frequent in 2025 to date. Two powerful typhoons, known internationally as Ragasa and Bualoi, ravaged Northern Luzon

and Masbate respectively. They devastated key infrastructure, homes and agriculture. In response, PSF in partnership with the PLDTSmart Sales Volunteer Team, distributed food and hygiene packs to help affected families meet their immediate needs.

On 30 September, a magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck offshore Northern Cebu. Then in October, two major earthquakes - magnitude 7.4 and 6.7 - hit off the coast of Davao Oriental, triggering landslides and aftershocks. Recovery efforts continue as affected families rebuild homes and restore normalcy.

SPIRIT OF STRENGTH AND HOPE

Despite these challenges, Filipino communities continue to show strength and unity. Through Paskong Kapatid, First Pacific Group companies mobilize to stand with those affected - helping rebuild not just homes, but also faith in a brighter tomorrow.
