BIG MOMMAS

While I was volunteering in South Africa, I would commute by bus and walk everywhere. On my journeys I would meet a diverse people, most notably, the ‘Big Mommas”. I heard this term, while I was commuting from work on a bus and these three voluptuous women stepped on with vibrancy of laughter and humor and they were all dressed in bright colors. One had a child in a traditional wrap behind her back and the other two carried baskets of goods. The driver asked. “Where you Big Mommas going?” I thought it would be more simple and natural to have these women naked in this piece and let the different colors express their vibrant characteristics.

I just recently arrived to the DFW area and was living momentarily with relatives in Grand Prairie. I was out shopping with them and brought my camera. I was very surprised to see the vast population of Black Birds in the area! I was not used to seeing this many back home, where Far East El Paso was nothing but desert and the only thing you saw were small batches of Vultures, Quail, Hawks, Pigeons and Roadrunners or the combination of one eating the other! So I decided to take a picture and modify the piece.

I was currently helping a relative move into her new apartment. We all decided to take a rest and I went for a walk in the woods nearby. I came up to a small running creek and took a few photographs of the running water with dead leaves and rocks on the bed. I modified it a bit and came to like this piece, especially on how it looks to be the surface of a Koi fish.

My family and I were visiting my sister and my brother -in- law in Reno, Nevada. We came to a huge water fountain featuring a Mythic Triton theme in one of the casinos. I took several pictures of the fountain, especially the rushing water scenes. After modifying in the drastic tones and exposures, I cropped many of them in different angles. One specifically seems to look like a stranger in the distance, a man of fire coming out from a volcanic scene.

I was assisting a relative in cleaning her yard and we all decided to take a break. I took my camera around the yard and found a metallic cabinet covered in leaves. After moving the vines away, I took pictures of the interior. The flashes made the gray metallic surface shine and I decided to modify the color when I returned home. Giving it a rustic tone, it has a sense of age and untold scars.

I was visiting a relative and I took my camera to the backyard for opportunities. After finding nothing to really shoot, I lounged around under a tree. I saw a water hose left slightly on nearby and based on the surface of the concrete, the water maneuvered unevenly across. That is when I saw a figure that looked like a horse and with a pot lid left behind from an earlier party, made the horse figure seem to look back at some type of orb. I formatted the photo to black and white and darkened the mood.

Theresa is an award winning journalist. She writes a column for the Chicago Defender, the most influential African-American newspaper in the United States, first published in 1905. Zane held a panel discussion to discuss adult orientated topics and African-American

Authors. Zane is known for her erotica novels and her partnership with former Motown Executive Suzanne de passe who toured with the Jackson 5. The two produced the hit TV series on Cinemax, “Zane Sex Chronicles”.

Tanya made it to the “TOP 6”, as a contestant on NBC’s season 15 of “The Biggest Loser”. The Chicago Native lost over 87 pounds in 13 weeks on the show and is still losing.

“I work out 3 hours a day, 2 hours in the morning and 1 hour before I go to bed at night - when it’s your life you will make time to exercise”. She is not a weight loss expert or coach, however, her advice to me to get rid of flabby arms - use free weights 5 sets of 15 reps.

I saw one of the vendors walk past

promoting this shoe and I had to take a picture of it. This is the perfect shoe for the bride of Michael Jackson or the bride for any man for that matter lol. It kind of reminds me of MJ on his toes but made for a woman. I have never seen any shoe like this. It is insulated with a backing to walk because there is no heel. What a magnificent, artistic creative invention.

I was very honored and proud to meet this young man. Mr. Chiloe Meyers a 12 year old coin

collector. Chiloe stopped by my minister’s booth Dr. Lee Warren: Executive Director of PLIM (www.plim2.org ). Dr. Warren was selling real 1 ounce silver coins to raise funds for our bible class. Chiloe has collected rare coins from all over the world. Dr. Warren gave him a free coin and the next day Chiloe brought us some of his coins to check the value of what he had in his collection. As it turns out, he had 21 dimes that were 90% silver 1964 front and back. The dimes were worth between $50-$60. Chiloe was at the expo with his parents who both work for The Illinois Department of Public Health. The IDPH were administering free services: HIV TESTING, BLOOD PRESSURE CHECKS, CHOLESTEROL CHECK & GLUCOSE CHECK (BLOOD SUGAR LEVELS) ALL FOR FREE. www.idph.state.il.us I told y’all last month this is the only expo where you can eat, shop, get a massage, get your hair done, dance, jungle gym for the kids, and get a partial health exam all under one roof. IN unrelated news, Grammy Award Winning DJ/Remixer Frankie Knuckles died from

complications of diabetes, he was 59 years old. He was known as the God father of “House Music”. Mr. Knuckles was very involved in the community providing a place where children can express themselves through dance and avoid loitering on the streets of Chicago. In the 80’s, he was owner of the Power Plant Dance Club and the prior resident DJ at “US” Studios aka The Warehouse. n an intimate launch party held at featured artist Felix “Flex” Maldonado’s Cisa Gallery in Hammond, IN on February 22, 2014. Invited guests enjoyed wine, hors d’oeuvres and original artwork by Maldonado who held a one man art exhibit the same night, “Magnolia Graffita”. His work can be appreciated within the first issue of Original Domain which includes his contribution of the very first image to grace the cover of the first domain (first issue of the magazine).

Additionally, the public launch of the website is in SUMMER and for children that want to publicly showcase their artwork, they will get their opportunity to do so as Original Domain is set to launch a sister publication for the “little artist” official name to be revealed in LATE SPRING/summer.
