General Info

About the Cover

Since making Oregon her home in 2020, Amanda Stumpehorst has embraced the community with the same warmth and creativity that define her artwork. As a mom of three, she spends countless hours exploring local parks with her children—drawing inspiration from their adventures together. Their current favorite destination is the brand-new playground at Park East, a place Amanda loves just as much for the joy it brings her family as for the natural beauty that surrounds it. If you haven’t visited yet, you absolutely should!

Nature is at the heart of Amanda’s artistic work. She finds creativity in quiet trails, fluttering birds, and the “cute critters” her kids discover along the way. These everyday moments fuel her imagination, helping her transform simple observations into whimsical, story-filled paintings. Her signature style combines expressive brushwork with playful, detailed flourishes— capturing not just how nature looks, but how it feels.

Amanda’s path as an artist began long before settling in Oregon. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Kennesaw State University in Georgia in 2003 and later built a career in marketing and graphic design. Over the past seven years, she has dedicated herself fully to life as a professional artist, creating pieces that now reside in homes across the country.

One of Amanda’s most exciting recent accomplishments is the creation of the cover art for this guide. This year’s cover features The Reading Nook—Oregon Park District’s youngest park. Officially opened in June 2019, The Reading

Nook sits on property generously donated by the Ingraham family. Designed as a space for early childhood play and imagination, it includes a charming playground tailored for ages 3–5 and a Little Free Library that encourages reading and community connection.

The Oregon Park District is excited to partner with Amanda to celebrate our 60th anniversary in 2026. She will be designing a special series of guide covers throughout the year, each featuring original artwork inspired by our parks and community. Limited-edition prints of these covers will be available this summer, with proceeds benefiting our Youth Scholarship Fund. Watch for more information in our Summer Guide on ordering these prints.

Amanda’s work reminds us of the wonder found in nature, the power of creativity, and the stories waiting to be discovered right here in our own parks. We are thrilled to share her talent with you.

OREGON PARK DISTRICT

Letter from the Director

Dear Oregon Park District Residents,

As we welcome the Winter/Spring season, we are excited to share this Activity Guide with you at a very special time in our history. In December 1966, the Oregon Park District was officially formed, and in 2026 we proudly celebrate 60 years of serving our community. While our official anniversary falls in December, we’ve chosen to honor this milestone all year long—reflecting on our past, celebrating the present, and looking ahead to a bright future.

For six decades, the Oregon Park District has remained committed to being Caring, Creative, and Community-Focused. Generations of families have grown, played, and connected through our parks, programs, and facilities, supported by dedicated staff, volunteers, and community partners. From the very beginning, our mission has been rooted in bringing people together through meaningful programs, welcoming spaces, and memorable experiences. This anniversary year will feature special events and programming designed to celebrate the people, stories, and moments that have shaped our District over the past 60 years, with additional opportunities and celebrations to be announced throughout the year.

This Winter/Spring Guide highlights several exciting offerings, including our 60 Years of Green coffee conversations beginning January 15, the all-ages Cabin Fever Pool Party on January 16, and fun-filled 60’s-themed parent & child dances. Families can also look forward to leprechaun fun this spring, an Easter Eggstravaganza, and the launch of our newly formed competitive baseball league for established teams. We invite you to join us throughout the season—and throughout the year—as we celebrate this milestone together. Thank you for being an essential part of the Oregon Park District’s story. We look forward to creating many more memories with you.

Sincerely,,

60 YEARS OF GREEN A COFFEE CONVERSATION

9:00 am

Celebrate our 60th anniversary with 60 Years of Green: A Coffee Conversation, a monthly coffee hour series exploring the past, present, and future of our community’s beloved parks. Each month, we’ll gather to share stories, photos, and memories that highlight how our parks have grown over the decades — and the exciting plans taking shape for the years ahead. Enjoy a warm cup of coffee, connect with neighbors and park staff, and take a stroll down memory lane as we honor six decades of recreation, conservation, and community togetherness. During the cooler months (October–April), we’ll meet indoors at the Nash Recreation Center, and from May through September, we’ll take the conversation outdoors to a different park location each month to celebrate where our story began — in the parks themselves.

Catch the Wave Swim Cub structures the program to provide much more than just swimming lessons. Our curriculum, teacher training, evaluation system, and parent communication are all designed to provide a total Aquatic Education. Our primary technique to achieve water safety is to teach all students to comfortably live in the water. When a student truly learns to live in the water, the strokes come easily. We find that when a child enjoys the lessons, the more successful the learning process is. Therefore, our priority is to create a happy atmosphere.

Penguin Babies

Parent participation is required in the water. Class focus is on water acclamation, submersion, back floating, & independence in the water.

Little Learners

Student focus is on overcoming anxieties associated with the water and parent separation along with introductory back float techniques.

Intermediate

Student focus is on self-rescue foundations through proper stroke and breathing techniques.

Advanced

Student focus is on advanced freestyle and backstroke training with a strong emphasis on kicking & body position.

Elite

Elite is considered our pre-team level. Students focus on swimming efficiency through distance training and coordinating stroke movements.
