Dear Residents:

While we are excited to release the summer activity guide, we do so knowing uncertainty exists.

Cancellations and closures may extend beyond April 30th, but we continue to encourage you to register for upcoming programs with a 100% guarantee you will receive a full refund if we are forced to cancel or reschedule. Updates will be provided on the Park District website, Facebook page and via e-mail. During our closure, we are providing tips and ideas for you and your family to stay happy and healthy during this challenging time. We know how important recreation, sports and fitness are for our residents’ social, emotional and physical wellbeing.

These are trying times for all of us and we know each day brings more uncertainty. We appreciate your flexibility and patience during these trying and unprecedented times and hope you and your family remain safe and healthy.

Note from Director

Even though we are shutdown, the District is continuing to plan for the future. Construction has resumed at Park West and completion is tentatively scheduled for June. Improvements at Park West will include a fully accessible playground, a larger restroom & shelter building, improved accessibility at the amphitheater, batting cage, new sand volleyball courts, baggo courts, and an outdoor classroom. The final additions to the improvements will be a Yalp Toro court and Sona Arch. Both encourage single or multiplayer interactive games for kids and adults utilizing advanced technology.

The Toro Court will be the first to be installed in the United States and the Sona Arch will be the first in Illinois.

GENERAL INFO

Alongside the nation, we have been reeling with the fast-paced turn of events as we manage the pandemic created by the spread of COVID-19. In accordance with Governor Pritzker’s Stay-at-Home order, all park district activities and programs are cancelled, and all facilities and outdoor play spaces are closed through April 30th. The District has also chosen to cancel or postpone all scheduled recreation programming for the month of May as a precautionary measure. Use of Nash Recreation Center will be based on further orders distributed in the coming weeks. The District will continue to follow recommendations set forth by Governor Pritzker, Illinois Department of Public Health and the Center for Disease Control. The best way we can prevent the spread of illness is to stay home, limit public outings and always maintain a six-foot distance from others.

ACTIVITY GUIDE RELEASE Digital activity guides are released each year. Print versions are also available by request at the front counter at Nash Recreation Center. A full updated guide can always be found by visiting the district’s website: www.oregonpark.org.

SIBLING DISCOUNT *FOR SELECT PROGRAMS The Oregon Park District offers a sibling discount of 10% off the regular fee for each additional child enrolled in a program where one child has already enrolled at full price in the same session.

Registration for all siblings must take place at Nash or by phone at the same time in order to receive the discount. All family members must be in the same account to qualify.

OPD FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE The Oregon Park District provides financial assistance in several forms to help families or individuals that are in financial difficulty with program fees, preschool tuition, Extended Time program and Camp Oh-Pea-Dee. Funds are provided through employee-driven fundraising and generous donations through the A. Charles and Lillemor Lawrence Foundation.

Funds are available for anyone residing within the Oregon School District boundaries.

REGISTRATION BEGINS APRIL 29TH Annual and non-annual pass holders will be able to register on Wednesday, April 29th. Resident annual pass holders will begin registration at 7:00 am and non-resident annual pass holders will follow at 9:00 am. Registration on April 29th can only be submitted by members of your immediate family.

RESIDENCY ID is required for proof of residency or a non-resident fee will be charged. A resident is an individual living in or owning real estate within the boundaries of the Oregon Park District. All Oregon School District students participating in youth team sports are considered residents. If registering online, residency must be approved. See page 6.

The Oregon Park District may cancel, postpone, combine classes, or change instructors. Classes may be cancelled due to insufficient enrollment and refunds will be issued.

All participants will be notified of any scheduling changes or cancellations.

WAIVER POLICY The Oregon Park District requires all class participants and pass holders to sign a waiver release form.

Waivers will be signed and kept on file at Nash Recreation Center. Your registration is not considered complete until a signed waiver is on file.

PROGRAM REFUND POLICY * Full refund will be issued if the Park District reschedules/cancels a class. * To withdraw from a program, a refund application must be completed by visiting our website and submitting a request. * An administrative fee of $5.00 shall be deducted from the amount of a refund to offset the cost of processing the refund. A full refund, less the fee, will be granted if the application for refund is filed with the office prior to the registration deadline. * Refunds will not be granted after the registration deadline. * All program refunds are subject to the program coordinator’s approval. * Refunds will not be approved on Park District passes unless medical or relocation situation. * Passes/cards are non-transferable.

Fees must be paid at the time of registration by cash, check, or credit card. The first fee listed is the rate for Oregon Park District residents. The second fee is for nonresidents. No registrations or rentals will be accepted without the proper payment.

The Oregon Park District recently launched Perfect Mind, a new online registration system. With the new system, the District now offers a user-friendly interface, simple navigation, and customizable features to save you and your family time when registering for District programs and events!

Perfect Mind provides the ability for our users to update account information, view attendance history and future schedule, register for an activity or event, and check on the availability of a shelter or Nash Recreation Center room rental from anywhere with an internet connection.

Not a member yet? Create an Account! Already have an account with your primary email address? Simply login or select ‘Forgot your password’ to re-establish your account. Once you’re in, you can update your household information, payment information, sign up for programs and activities, and reserve shelters.

While the District strives to make your online experience one of the best, please note there are a few account features that are not available online.

All patrons that create their own account will be flagged as a Non-Resident. If you live within the District boundaries and are a Resident, please call Nash Recreation Center at (815) 732-3101 so our Customer Service team can update your account. Once updated, resident rates will be applied for all future online registrations and reservations.

CORPORATE MEMBERS

A Nash Recreation Center pass or daily fee allows patrons to use the pool and whirlpool, gym, and Fitness Center.

The Oregon Park District offers three corporate membership options for resident and non-resident companies. For more information call (815)732-3101 and ask for Alyssa or email alyssa@oregonpark.org.

Racquetball court rental is included in the annual pass fee and is $3.00/hour for non-annual pass holders. Wallyball court rental is $5.00/hour.

NASH FITNESS CENTER The Nash Fitness Center is over 6,000 square feet and features a three lane rubberized track that surrounds our CYBEX strength training machines, free weights, and cardiovascular equipment.

Fitness Center staff is available to set up an orientation for any and all users looking to begin a fitness routine.

TRX ROOM A new addition to the facility includes our TRX room featuring 800 square feet of alternative fitness equipment. Room features 6 TRX stations, kettlebells, weighted ropes, yoga mats, dumbells, tire flip, punching bag, spin bikes, rower, elliptical, air assault treadmill and stairmill.

GROUP RESERVATIONS LOCKERS The Oregon Park District has lockers available for rental to annual pass holders for the term of the pass. The cost is $65 for residents and $80 for non-residents.

Childcare is available at Nash Sept.-May *Family members must reside in the same household. Each household is limited to two adults, legally married (including civil union and common law marriage), with the exception of full-time students between the ages of 18 and 24. An unlimited number of persons 17 and under can be included under a family membership.

Resident Fees

Mt. Morris Village residents can register for all programs, memberships, facility rentals and daily fees at the Oregon Park District resident rate. Additional non-resident fees are subsidized by the Village of Mt. Morris.

AUTOMATIC MONTHLY PAYMENT This is a convenient way to pay for your pass and select programs.

The automatic debit monthly fees are shown below. With your permission, automatic credit card charges will be made each month. The first amount is the initial payment that will be made when registering, followed by the amount of 11 equal payments charged each month.

3 PAY PAYMENT PLAN Your annual pass is paid off in three equal consecutive payments!

The pass fee is paid for the first three months, and is only available on annual passes.

AGE RESTRICTIONS Children under the age of 5 are welcome to use the gym and pool area free of charge. Anyone 3rd grade or younger must be accompanied by a parent or responsible person, Junior High aged or older in the facility. Participants must be 7th grade or older to use the Nash Fitness Center and 9th grade or older to use the free weights. Participants must be 18 years old to use TRX Room.

SILVERSNEAKERS & RENEW ACTIVE The Oregon Park District is an approved SilverSneakers and Renew Active location. If you are unsure if you are a member or do not have a membership ID, the front counter staff at Nash can assist in determining your eligibility.

The Nash pool features stairs to a 3 foot bay area attached to a 25 meter 6 lane pool. The deepest area is 10 feet. The pool is equipped with a handicap chair lift to assist patrons in and out of the pool. After your workout you can enjoy the 13 person hot tub with both high and low jets.

Six lap lanes will be available for swimmers 7th grade or older. Swimming 32 laps is a one mile workout.

HOT TUB HOURS

Multi-Use Swim is open to all ages, however, children are to be accompanied by an adult. Patrons may swim laps, play in the bay area, water jog in the deep end, or enjoy time in the hot tub. Swim lessons are scheduled during this time and will have first priority for pool use. Please be aware that areas of the pool may not be available.

The hot tub is available for use during Lap Swim, Open Swim, and Multi-Use Swim. The hot tub can also be used during swim lessons, Water Aerobics, and Twinges classes. You must be at least 16 years old to use the hot tub. The hot tub is equipped with a handicap chair lift to assist patrons in and out of the hot tub.

OPEN SWIM All areas of the pool are open for use, including our diving board and basketball hoop. Pool toys are allowed in the pool at the discretion of the aquatic staff.

Catch the Wave Swim Club structures the program to provide much more than just swimming lessons. Our curriculum, teacher training, evaluation system, and parent communication are all designed to provide a total Aquatic Education. Our primary technique to achieve water safety is to teach all students to comfortably live in the water. When a student truly learns to live in the water, the strokes come easily. We find that a child enjoys the lessons, the more successful the learning process is. Therefore, our first priority is to create a happy atmosphere.

SWIMMING LEVEL DESCRIPTIONS PENGUIN BABIES

ADVANCED

In Penguin Babies, parent participation is required in the water.

Class focus is on water acclamation, submersion, back floating and independence in the water.

In Advanced, student focus is on advanced freestyle and backstroke training with a strong emphasis on kicking and body position.

LITTLE LEARNERS

ELITE

In little learners, the student focus is on overcoming anxieties associated with the water and parent separation along with introductory back float techniques.

Elite is considered our pre-team level, the class focus is on swimming efficiency. Students learn how to maintain form through distance training and by coordinating stroke movements properly.

INTERMEDIATE

DEEP WATER AEROBICS-AGES 18+ Deep Water Aerobics is a more intense workout than your typical water aerobics class. Working out in the deep end will allow you to get a cardiovascular workout without the impact. You will also increase your endurance, flexibility and strength.

Participants do not need to know how to swim. An aqua jogger belt will be provided.

WATER AEROBICS-AGES 18+ Exercise your entire body without putting stress on your back and joints. This class will work on toning, cardiovascular strength, endurance, and flexibility.

TWINGES-AGES 18+ Let the natural buoyancy and resistance of the water help you improve your joint strength and flexibility along with improving cardiovascular endurance while walking and jogging in the shallow end. Participants do not need to know how to swim.

LITTLE BASEBALL STARS

T-Ball introduces the fundamentals of baseball. All games will be played at Etnyre field beginning in June. A few practices will be held prior to each team’s first game. Players must turn 5 by 6/1 and not turn 7 before 6/1 to be eligible for T-Ball.

Your child will learn the very basics of baseball in this introductory program, offered by OHS Coach Nate Girton and his baseball players. A parent/adult will be required to attend each evening and may be asked to assist their child throughout the program. Each week, children will learn a new skill and develop previously learned skills. Catching, running, batting, and safety will be taught. Only the first 14 participants will be accepted for each time slot. Each child will receive a t-shirt. Grab your friends and join us for a fun Youth Co-Ed Sand Volleyball League on our new Sand Volleyball courts at Park West.

Teams will consist of a maximum of 6 players with a maximum roster of 15, and there cannot be more than 3 males at once on the court. Games will be self-officiated, and the season will last 4 weeks. There will be a mandatory team meeting on July 10th at 4:30 pm at the Sand Volleyball courts to go over rules.

Tennis Camp is back at Oregon Park West! Join Coach Kristy Eckardt for a fun filled week learning basic skills and improving on your current skills. Kristy is an experienced certified Tennis Coach and is the current Rochelle High School Tennis Coach. Please bring a Tennis racket and a water bottle. There will be a limited number of rackets available to borrow. All camp participants will receive a T-shirt.

The 6th Grade volleyball program focuses on skill development and is an introduction to volleyball. The program will help prepare participants for the Jr. High level of competition.

Practice dates and time will vary depending on the preference of the head coach. Home games are played at Nash and travel to away games is provided by OCUSD buses. Tryouts may be required if the max number of participants is reached. A volunteer coach is needed for this team. Please contact lesley@ oregonpark.org if interested.

Junior High athletes will develop endurance, improve their running technique, and build team camaraderie. Pickleball is often described as a mixture of ping-pong, tennis, and badminton, all played on a mini tennis court with an oversized paddle and a ball similar to a wiffle ball.

This game is fast, fun, addictive, and can be played by all ages over 18 and athletic abilities! Drop in at your own leisure and enjoy this wonderful sport. To learn more about pickleball you can visit the USA Pickleball Association at: usapa.org. Must be 18 years old.

Recreational softball is back at Park West! This league is designed for men and women to enjoy slow-pitch softball through friendly competition. Bats will be provided by the park district for each team to use. The league will consist of a regular season, and a postseason tournament to end the year.

SAND VOLLEYBALL This Co-Ed Sand Volleyball League will be played at our brand new sand volleyball courts at Park West. There will be a regular season and followed by an end-of-year tournament. This fun new camp is for kids who want to explore improvisation while learning to play more interactive games in a fun structured setting. This camp will be run by Mrs. Davis and Mrs. Crosby, Directors of the annual Fall Musical.

This camp teaches the building blocks of improv and theatre.

The games and exercises are mostly guided play that help develop teamwork and self-esteem. These are all designed to be fun with no pressure to perform placed upon the children. Children will come up with their own choregraphed skit(s) to perform at the conclusion of the two weeks.

STATE PARK HIKES Join former Park Ranger, Grant Afflerbaugh on hikes through our local state parks. Each session features a different state park with a trail that is often times less traveled. Grant will lead the group and provide educational information throughout the hike. The group will meet at each park the day of the program.

The Oregon Park District Children’s Center program will help prepare your child for kindergarten as they learn to interact with their peers. All program supplies are included in the monthly payment. Children will receive a daily snack. Request a parent handbook at Nash for more information. Auto payment is available for this program. Inquire at Nash for more information. On top of this, we will be playing at our local parks, engaging in many sports and outdoor games, themed crafts and so much more! Don’t let your child miss out on this amazing, lasting experience! A light snack is served in the morning before 8:30 am and again around 3:30 pm.

Community Garden Plots

Grow local and eat fresh! Twelve Community Garden plots are available to rent each spring. The raised beds are 4’x8’ and will be available on a first-come first-served basis. There is also a bed available designed for physically challenged or handicapped individuals. The plots are conveniently located at Veterans Park on South 10th Street in Oregon. The plots offer both residents and non-residents the opportunity to produce fruits, veggies, herbs, flowers, and more.

We welcome everyone to visit the community garden and see the changes in growth and color over the growing season. However, the produce is not for community picking. Items being grown are for those renting and investing their time and energy in the garden.

Flower & Plant Sale and Mini Market Saturday, May 16 from 8:00 am - 1:00 pm Buy or sell! This is a popular, fragrant and fun event attracting gardeners with “spring planting fever.” If you are looking for great deals on annuals and perennials, want to expand your garden, or thin it out to make room for new varieties, need some garden art, or are ready to start planting a variety of vegetables, then this SALE is for you. Included is a Mini Market giving shoppers a taste of what will be coming to the Oregon Farmers Market.

Are you looking for a unique and fun way to spend time outdoors at our parks? Geocaching (geo-cashing) is an environmentally friendly outdoor recreational activity. This outdoor treasure hunting game involves searching for hidden objects using clues and GPS (global positioning system) coordinates. Meet the pet vendors (shop a little too), see demonstrations, check out Wiggly Field and enjoy dinner at the park - a hot dog, of course! There is also an optional Hound Hike, which is a walk at Park West with a couple checkpoints along the way for dogs to play games and enjoy refreshments. Participants must be registered for the Hound Hike ($5 per dog). Upon arrival at the event, all dogs will be checked for their Rabies vaccination which is required. Vendors will be set up outside Wiggly Field (no membership tag required for dogs). Vendor booths will be available to purchase on a first come first serve basis. Register early (on or before Sept 1) for only $8/booth.

Officially opened in July 2012, Wiggly Field Dog Park is the first off-leash dog park operated by the Oregon Park District. The dog park is a 1 acre fenced off-leash area with two separate entrances and exits for safety. The first area is an open running area and the second is an agility training area.

The park offers water fountains for people and dogs. Wiggly Field off-leash dog park is open seven days a week from dawn until dusk. Agility equipment will be removed during the winter months and brought back in the spring. We ask all owners to have fun, but be responsible. All users and dogs must have a permit. Please stop by Nash Recreation Center to get a permit and receive the rules and regulations. Proof of rabies vaccination is required upon registering.

Yearly Fee: 1st dog $5/$6 NR 2nd dog $2/$3 NR A $20 Key Fob deposit is collected for all first-time users. The deposit is a one-time fee and will be refunded if the user chooses not to renew the membership.

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

If you log 1,000 miles in our Fitness Center by the end of October, you will receive an Elite Pacers Club t-shirt.

After your workout, simply fill out one of our Pacers Club cards and drop it in the box. We will then enter your workout information into our computer. All miles and/or time will be converted into bike miles. The totals will be posted every month. If you are a new member, please ask the fitness supervisor on duty and they will explain how to record your miles.

The Oregon Park District believes that every child should have an opportunity to participate in recreational programs regardless of financial hardship.

The Oregon Park District offers scholarships to all OCUSD students for reduced program rates according to financial need. MILITARY POLICY Military home on active duty, their resident family members during military tours and wounded warriors will have access to Nash Recreation Center at no charge. Proof of miltary status must be provided.
