In December, the Oregon Park District will begin celebrating 50 years of service to you: the residents of Oregon. It is my hope you will participate in the many opportunities offered in the 2016/17 activity guide as we reflect on the past 50 years. The foresight shown in 1966 by a handful of individuals has paved the way for 150 acres of parkland, miles of trails, playgrounds, sports fields, an indoor pool, outdoor concert facility, natural areas, and 2 recreation centers that have provided thousands of children and adults recreational experiences that have, and will, last a lifetime.

Throughout the past 50 years, the District’s commissioners, directors and employees have successfully stayed ahead of the trends in an effort to continue ‘Creating fun for a lifetime’. These efforts will carry on as we strive to maintain our status as a distinguished accredited agency in the State of Illinois and finalize our 5 year master plan in March. The results of our recent survey will help ensure we are meeting the recreation needs of our residents and continuing our work in helping our community be a great place to live, work and play. I am very proud of OPD programs, services and the dedicated staff who make your recreation experiences enjoyable. I would also encourage you to visit oregonpark.org for a list of previous Oregon Park District Commissioners and Executive Directors. I offer my personal thanks to each of them for charting a course for us to follow. During the upcoming year, OPD will be celebrating 50 years with many exciting ways for you to get involved. This milestone couldn’t have been reached without our community and OPD supporters. I invite you to look forward to these fun activities: 50th Anniversary Open House, Movies in the Pool, Pizza with Santa, First Fridays in the Pool, Taft Adventure Camp, Super Sprint Triathlon for kids, Family Fun Run, Camping on the Prairie and a special Concert in the Park followed by fireworks. Please consider this an invitation to one and all to join in the celebration. After all, ‘Creating fun for a lifetime’ revolves around YOU! Oregon Park District is proud to be recognized as an Illinois Distinguished Park and Recreation Accredited Agency, the highest honor a Parks & Recreation Agency in Illinois can receive. The District has held this status since 2009!

Digital activity guides are released each year. Print versions are also available by request at the front counter at Nash Recreation Center. A full updated guide can always be found by visiting the district’s website: www.oregonpark.org.

The Oregon Park District offers a sibling discount of 10% off the regular fee for each additional child enrolled in a program where one child has already enrolled at full price in the same session. Registration for all siblings must take place at Nash or by phone at the same time in order to receive the discount.

Registration Begins November 29 ANNUAL PASS HOLDERS

Annual pass holders will be allowed to register on Monday, November 28. Resident annual pass holders will begin registration at 7:00 am and non-resident annual pass holders will follow at 9:00 am. Registration on November 28 can only be submitted by members of your immediate family.

NON-ANNUAL PASS HOLDERS

Registration for non-annual pass holders will begin on Tuesday, November 29. Residents will begin at 7:00 am, followed by non-residents at 9:00 am.

RESIDENCY

ID is required for proof of residency or a nonresident fee will be charged. A resident is an individual living in or owning real estate within the boundaries of the Oregon Park District. All Oregon School District students participating in youth team sports are considered residents.

FEES

Fees must be paid at the time of registration by cash, check, or credit card. The first fee listed is the rate for Oregon Park District residents. The second fee is for non-residents. No registrations or rentals will be accepted without the proper payment.

CLASS CHANGES

The Oregon Park District may cancel, postpone, combine classes, or change instructors. Classes may be cancelled due to insufficient enrollment and refunds will be issued. All participants will be notified of any scheduling changes or cancellations.

WAIVER POLICY

The Oregon Park District requires all class participants and pass holders to sign a waiver release form. Waivers will be signed and kept on file at Nash Recreation Center. Your registration is not considered complete until a signed waiver is on file.

PROGRAM & RESERVATION REFUND POLICY

* A full refund will be issued if the Park District reschedules or cancels a class. * To withdraw from a program, a refund application must be completed. * An administrative fee of $5.00 shall be deducted from the amount of a refund to offset the cost of processing the refund. A full refund, less the fee, will be granted if the application for refund is filed with the office at least ten days prior to the scheduled start of the program, activity or facility rental. * Refunds will not be granted after the registration deadline. * All program refunds are subject to the program coordinator’s approval. * Refunds will not be approved on Park District passes. * Passes/cards are non-transferable.

Oregon Park District offers 5 easy ways to register for programs, passes, and rentals! Online Registration – Visit us at www.oregonpark.org to sign up for an online ID and register for any of our activities over the web. Online registrations will be accepted starting Wednesday, November 30.

Mail-in Registration – Send your payment and signed registration form to Oregon Park District, P.O. Box 237, Oregon, IL, 61061. Please remember to include a check or Visa/MasterCard/Discover number and expiration date. The Park District is not responsible for mail-in registrations not received.

Fax-in Registration – Fax a signed registration form to (815)732-3736. Please remember to include a Visa/ MasterCard/Discover number and expiration date. Fax registrations will be accepted starting Wednesday, November 30, at 9:00 am.

Drop-in Registration – Visit Nash and register for any of our activities, passes, or rentals. Phone-in Registration – Call (815)732-3101 and one of our friendly receptionists would be happy to enroll you or your family. Phone-in registrations will be accepted starting Wednesday, November 30.

AUTOMATIC MONTHLY PAYMENT

RAQUETBALL & WALLYBALL

Racquetball court rental is included in the annual pass fee and is $3.00/hour for non-annual pass holders. Wallyball court rental is $5.00/hour.

This is a convenient way to pay for your pass and select programs. The automatic debit monthly fees are shown above. With your permission, automatic credit card charges will be made each month. The first amount is the initial payment that will be made when registering, followed by the amount of 10 equal payments to be charged on the 15th of each month.

NASH FITNESS CENTER

3 PAY PAYMENT PLAN

A Nash Recreation Center pass or daily fee allows patrons to use the pool and whirlpool, gym, and Fitness Center.

The Nash Fitness Center is over 6,000 square feet and features a three lane rubberized track that surrounds our CYBEX strength training machines, free weights, and cardiovascular equipment. Our friendly Fitness Center staff is available to set up an orientation for any and all users looking to begin a fitness routine.

GROUP RESERVATIONS

Groups of 15 or more will receive a 10% discount on daily fees if reservations are made at least 10 days in advance. Contact the Oregon Park District for reservation information.

LOCKERS

The Oregon Park District has lockers available for rental to annual pass holders for the term of the pass.

MT. MORRIS VILLAGE RESIDENTS

Mt. Morris Village residents can register for all programs, memberships, facility rentals and daily fees at the Oregon Park District resident rate. Additional non-resident fees are subsidized by the Village of Mt. Morris.

Your annual pass is paid off in three equal consecutive payments! The pass fee is paid on the 15th of month, for the first three months, and is only available on annual passes.

AGE RESTRICTIONS

Children under the age of 5 are welcome to use the gym and pool area free of charge but must be accompanied by a parent or responsible person, 13 years or older. Participants must be 7th grade or older to use the Nash Fitness Center and 9th grade or older to use the free weights.

HEALTH CLEARANCE

All users are asked to fill out a health history form. Anyone with prior health problems may be asked to obtain a doctor’s release before being permitted to work out. All health forms and doctor’s clearance forms are kept confidential.

The Nash pool features stairs to a 3 foot bay area attached to a 25 meter 6 lane pool. The deepest area is 10 feet. The pool is equipped with a handicap chair lift to assist patrons in and out of the pool. After your workout you can enjoy the 13 person hot tub with both high and low jets.

LAP SWIM

Six lap lanes will be available for swimmers 7th grade or older. Swimming 32 laps is a one mile workout.

OPEN SWIM

All areas of the pool are open for use, including our diving board and basketball hoop. Pool toys are allowed in the pool at the discretion of the aquatic staff.

MULTI-USE SWIM

Multi-use swim is open to all ages, however, children are to be accompanied by an adult. Patrons may swim laps, play in the bay area, water jog in the deep end, or enjoy time in the hot tub. Swim lessons are scheduled during this time and will have first priority for pool use. Please be aware that areas of the pool may not be available.

HOT TUB HOURS

The hot tub is available for use during lap swim, open swim, and multi-use swim. The hot tub can also be used during swim lessons, water aerobics, and twinges classes. You must be at least 16 years old to use the hot tub. The hot tub is equipped with a handicap chair lift to assist patrons in and out of the hot tub.

Afraid of the water? Never learned to swim? Does this describe you? It is never to late to learn to swim! Our instructor will work with you one-on-one for 30 minutes to help you enjoy the water and learn desired skills.

The focus of Starbabies is to help very young children become comfortable in the water while also teaching the parent or caregiver the importance of water safety. This class does not teach the child how to become an accomplished swimmer or to survive in the water. One parent or caregiver must be in the water with each child. Nash Recreation Center didn’t originally have a swimming pool. Pool construction began in 1984 and was completed in 1986. The original pool still remains but upgrades and repairs have been made through the years. Check out our new First Fridays in the pool for lots of family fun on page 26.

This outdoor treasure hunting game involves searching for hidden objects using clues and GPS (global positioning system) coordinates. There are 10 geocaches strategically placed within and near the Oregon Park District’s parks and facilities. You will need a www.geocaching.com membership, a GPS device or a GPS-enabled mobile phone so you can navigate to a cache, a pen or pencil to sign the cache log, and you may want to bring an exchangeable treasure! Our little gardeners will be harvesting vegetables and fruit and planting trees! On Monday, July 17th , we will be travelling to Hidden Timber Gardens, 462 S. Chana Road in Chana. Along with other activities, we will learn everything there is to know about planting trees. On Wednesday, July 19th, we will be heading to the Oregon Park District Community Garden, South 10th Street in Oregon, where we will learn about planting in plots from Tyler Hagemann, the horticulture supervisor for the Park District. We will pick vegetables and enjoy samples. On Friday, July 21st, we will pack up and head to Granny’s Berries, 3405 S. White Rock Road, in Rochelle. We will learn about berries and how they grow. We will each get to pick berries to bring home as well as sample some delicious blueberry snacks. Children should be dropped off at the Children’s Center at 9:00 a.m. each day and picked up at the Children’s Center at 11:00 a.m. each day. They will be transported to our destination each day by the Children’s Center staff in the Park District van. On our first day of camp, permission slips for the transportation for the week will need to be signed. Please leave car seat/booster seat at the front desk at the Park District for your child on each of the three days. Dress your child for the weather, but the children do need to wear gym shoes or appropriate shoes/boots for being in a garden or field. Enroll your child in Extended Time for before and/or after school care. Our staff engages students in both recreational and educational activities that encourage teamwork, self-confidence and fun. Fun in the Pool CHRISTMAS MOVIES IN THE POOL FEBRUARY 3RD NOVEMBER 26TH FINDING DORY Just keep swimming…. Join us on February 3rd for a showing of Finding Dory on the pool ELF deck. Open Swim starts at 6:30 pm and the Join us for our Family Fun Night during Candlelight Walk for a movie in the pool. The pool will open at 4 pm and will begin showing the Christmas movie Elf at 4:30 pm. Join us for a festively decorated pool and games on the pool deck prior to the start of the movie.

MARCH 3RD ROOT BEER FLOAT NIGHT

Float on down to Nash on March 3rd for Root Beer Float night. Everyone that comes to swim will get a free root beer float. Root beer floats will be served from 6:30-8 pm in the River Room. APRIL 7TH EGG HUNT

Looking for a new type of egg hunt this year? On April 7th we will have an egg hunt in the pool! We will have two different release times and will have Open Swim to follow directly after both hunts. Non-swimmers can wear a lifejacket if they wish, but must have a parent or guardian (must be over 13 years old) in the water with them. The hunt will start promptly at 6:45 pm. Independent swimmers (must be at least 5 years old and able to swim independently without a lifejacket) will start promptly at 7 pm. For the safety of the swimmers, bags will not be permitted and baskets or buckets must be left on the side of the pool.

Enjoy the Celebrity Game and cheer on youth baseball, t-ball and softball players as they are announced between innings. Frolic With the Fairies for an afternoon of fun in Fairyland where little girls can come dressed as a Princess Fairy and participate in a number of activities. The event will conclude with a Fairy Fashion Show & Tea. No need to buy a special fairy outfit. ROCK RIVER COMMUNITY BICYCLE NIGHT ANY AGE

Are you too old for the traditional Easter Egg Hunt? You are never too old for Easter fun! This is your chance to hunt for eggs in the dark. This year you might find some special eggs as we celebrate the Park District’s 50th Anniversary. Bring your flashlight and something to collect your eggs in. The Hunt areas will be divided into 5th/6th and 7th/8th grade areas. Come early to see the Easter Bunny and enjoy the pre-hunt activities while it gets good and dark. Plastic eggs will be collected following the hunt, but prizes are yours to keep!

For Your Pets OBEDIENCE/AGILITY DOG TRAINING CLASSES AGES 18 AND UP

Pat Mandernach from Maestoso Kennels has joined the Oregon Park District to teach positive obedience and agility training. Each class will include basic obedience behavior training, problem solving, retrieving and agility. Please bring treats, a 4 ft. or 6 ft. leash, and a collar for your dog to each class. If you do not have a current Wiggly Field membership, please bring all current vaccination records for your dog. If the trainer is under the age of 18, a guardian must accompany the trainer throughout the entirety of training. All classes will be held at Wiggly Field in Veteran’s Park. At checkpoints, owners will also draw a card and, upon returning, cards will be totaled and high card wins the Wiggly Wag & Walk Gift Basket. There will also be games with prizes and giveaways. Each participating dog in the Hound Hike will receive a goodie bag.

‘Wiggly Field ’ Dog Park Officially opened in July 2012, Wiggly Field Dog Park is the first off-leash dog park operated by the Oregon Park District. The dog park is a 1 acre fenced off-leash area with two separate entrances and exits for safety. The first area is an open running area and the second is an agility training area. The park offers water fountains for people and dogs. Wiggly Field off-leash dog park is open seven days a week from dawn until dusk. Agility equipment will be removed during the winter months and brought back in the spring. We ask all owners to have fun, but be responsible. All users and dogs must have a permit. Please stop by Nash Recreation Center to get a permit and receive the rules and regulations. Proof of rabies vaccination is required upon registering. The Ogle County Historical Society and Ruby Nash Museum are both affiliate groups of the Oregon Park District. The Ruby Nash Museum contains many Ogle County historical collections including artifacts, books, maps, and photos. Odds & Ends ELITE PACERS CLUB

If you log 1,000 miles in our Fitness Center by the end of October, each year, you will receive an Elite Pacers Club t-shirt. After your workout, simply fill out one of our Pacers Club cards and drop it in the box. We will then enter your workout information into our computer. All miles and/or time will be converted into bike miles. The totals will be posted every month. If you are a new member, please ask the fitness supervisor on duty and they will explain how to record your miles.

BLOOD PRESSURE MONITOR

The Park District offers a free blood pressure and heart rate monitor in our fitness center. It is a fully automatic selfattended monitor. Be heart healthy and happy. Know your blood pressure!

Lost and found articles are kept a maximum of 60 days and then donated to charitable organizations. If you think you or a family member may have lost something in one of our parks or facilities, please call or visit Nash Recreation Center.

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The Oregon Park District believes that every child should have an opportunity to participate in recreational programs regardless of financial hardship. For this reason, the Oregon Park District offers scholarships to Park District residents for reduced program rates according to financial need. Application forms are available at Nash Recreation Center or online at www.oregonpark.org. Applicants for scholarships are not guaranteed program registration or choice of program location. Scholarship fund availability cannot be guaranteed.

MEMORIAL TREE

Donate a tree in memory of a loved one. You can choose the type of tree and park location. Contact the Park District for more information about this program.

BIRD WALK

Enjoy a scenic walk through the parks while enjoying nature’s winged friends. Each bird location features a bird habitat structure that simulates the bird’s natural habitat. Pick up your guide at Nash Recreation Center.

PHOTO POLICY

The Oregon Park District and/or professional photographers under contract may videotape or take photographs of participants in Park District activities, classes, programs, or parks. These photographs and videotapes are used for future recreation guides, brochures, Facebook and other marketing materials.

FREE RENTAL OF FISHING EQUIPMENT

Would you like to go fishing but lack the equipment? The Oregon Park District has partnered with Rock River Outfitters to offer sport fishing equipment through the IDNR. Fishing rods, reels, and tackle are available to borrow at Rock River Outfitters, 114 N. River Road, Oregon.

NIGHT FISHING PERMITS

You can now fish at night in Oregon Park District Parks by purchasing a required Night Fishing Permit. Permits are available at Nash for $20.00 and are valid thru the end of the calendar year.

MILITARY POLICY

Military home on active duty, their resident family members during military tours and wounded warriors will have access to Nash Recreation Center at no charge. Proof of miltary status must be provided. In addition, Wounded Warriors must provide documentation of their status as a veteran disabled during service.
