Kristina MacMullen, Conductor

Conductor-teacher Kristina Caswell MacMullen has devoted her career to sharing music and inspiration with students and audiences Her collaborations with fellow musicians continue to confirm her abiding hope for the future and an unflagging belief in the power of choral music

Currently, MacMullen serves as an Associate Professor of Choral Conducting at the University of North Texas where she conducts the University Singers, Kalandra, and instructs both undergraduate and graduate students Prior to her appointment at UNT, Kristina spent eight years on the faculty of The Ohio State University While at OSU, her interdisciplinary work earned her the Sir William Osler Award for Humanism in Medicine

MacMullen believes that great potential lies in choral performance and creative communication She strives to guide her students, as they desire to impact the world they will inherit for the better Creative projects include interdisciplinary performances addressing the role of artificial intelligence in modern life, human trafficking, the KublerRoss stages of grief, play theory, Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, female archetype exploration, American song, civic engagement, and the nature of tears

As an active adjudicator and clinician, MacMullen has conducted All-State and honors choirs in over 30 states and provinces She has presented and co-presented interest sessions at state, regional, national and international conferences Recent and upcoming engagements involve students in Oregon, Missouri, Florida, Kansas, New York, Kentucky, and Texas During the Autumn of 2021, she conducted and produced the world premiere of Infinite Movement, a collaboration with composer Shara Nova and sculptor Matthew Ritchie Her teaching and conducting is featured on the DVD Conducting-Teaching: Real World Strategies for Success published by GIA (2009) Her editions for treble choir are published by Boosey and Hawkes, Musicatus Press, and MusicSpoke

MacMullen earned both the Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Music degrees from Michigan State University She completed the Doctor of Musical Arts degree at Texas Tech University Kristina has enjoyed a diverse career as a public-school teacher, interacting with students in rural, suburban, and urban settings, elementary through high school She also sings with the professional ensemble Mirabai

Josh Weir, Ensemble Co-Manager

Joshua Weir is the Director of Choirs at Kraxberger Middle School and Gladstone High School He earned his Bachlors of Music Education from Warner Pacific University and his Masters of Music in Choral Conducting from Portland State University Mr Weir’s middle school choirs have won awards from the music in the parks program and his high school choir made it to the Oregon State Choir Championships in 2019 Mr Weir’s Jazz Choir has also won numerous awards from the CCC Vocal Jazz Festival Outside of teaching Mr Weir sings in the Oregon Repertory Singers and is the associate conductor for Unistus Chamber Choir During his tenure as Assistant Conductor he has had the opportunity to travel to numerous US cities for the West Coast Estonian Days and has traveled twice to Estonian to participate in Laulupidu (Song Party) where he sang in a choir of 35,000 voices Mr Weir has also sung in the Portland Opera Chorus, Portland Symphonic Choir, and Novum Chamber Singers

Belinda Sisson, Ensemble Co-Manager

Belinda Sisson is the Director of Choirs at Ridgeview High School in Redmond Oregon She has her Master’s Degree in Art and Teaching and her Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from the

College of Liberal Arts at Oregon State University She has served as the Collegiate NAfME representative on the Board of the Oregon Music Educators Association
