Meet Tom Chambers, our new Territory Sales Trainer My wife and I are celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary this month. We have three cute kids at home, an active German Shepherd, productive hens and a garden in our back yard. We are from Portland, lived other places but keep returning to the Northwest, and we currently live in Salem. I spent years in the food industry, working with a development company for the then-popular Quiznos franchise. I was a regional trainer for franchisees and eventually owned 2 locations; one in Beaverton and the other in Gateway, NE Portland. My wife and I moved to Florida to start our family and for me to work with a partner in developing a frozen yogurt concept. We spent 5 memorable years around West Palm Beach but eventually grew to miss our families, the climate and the activities that Oregon has to offer, so we moved back. While searching for a food service development position, I stumbled upon an ambiguous ad, probably on Craigslist, and interviewed with Aflac. The opportunity sounded great so I spoke with my dad about it. He told me that he had an Aflac policy and that my grandpa was an agent for Aflac. I had never known this before. I made my mark as a new agent with Aflac, then became a district, while training new agents. Eventually I decided to move to Colonial, a move that would have been unthinkable in the past. I look forward to learning new skills from those who are seasoned. I am excited to share what I have learned with new agents to help them develop and build their books of business and renewals.

When I’m not at work, I’m playing with the kids, working on the garden, planning a greenhouse, making a batch of beer, working in the woodshop, looking for my running shoes or strategizing for a solution for the mess in my basement. By the way, when I was walking and talking with my dad about my potential move to Colonial, he told me that my grandpa also was an agent with Colonial Life.
