HEAD OF SCHOOL Orchard House School had a milestone year in 2018-2019 with our 20 th anniversary. What began as a dream of Nancy Davies and our founding mothers continues to thrive as a uniquely special place where the hearts and minds of middle school girls are nurtured, giving them the strength and confidence to lead extraordinary lives. We celebrated by reminiscing with friends and supporters, throwing a block party, launching our inaugural Spotlight publication, undergoing an extensive building renovation project and fundraising campaign and, of course, cake (lots of cake!). Throughout our reflections and celebrations, we kept our eyes focused on the future and what it means to be a school that is female-forward – equipping girls with the skills and tools they need to thrive throughout the many different phases and communities they will be part of in a rapidly changing world. Your support enables us to deliver our mission of fostering the intellectual curiosity, social responsibility, emotional integrity and physical well-being of our students. 18-19 BOARD OF TRUSTEES PRESIDENT Sixteen years ago I moved home to Richmond with my two daughters, who were toddlers at the time. I had already begun to think ahead about schools. It was then that I started to hear about this wonderful place called Orchard House. As my children grew, I learned more about this extraordinary place and wanted my girls to be a part of its culture. Like the hundreds of girls we have served, Orchard House has grown all the while remaining true to its roots, values, and mission. Over the last 20 years, Orchard House has moved into a beautiful, historic building and graduated over 350 girls -- many of whom have returned to share how Orchard House has impacted their lives. I am impressed when I am reminded how many present teachers and staff have been with OHS from the start. We are a deeply fortunate community to have benefited from 20 years of female-forward teachers, parents, administrators and other community leaders. But enough looking back, Orchard House stands uniquely prepared to lead and serve as a shining example of what today’s girl needs and can achieve. As the only middle school in Richmond dedicated to the intellectual and social development of girls from all backgrounds and communities, Orchard House celebrates its anniversary milestone with a focus on the future. Just like many of our alumnae, Orchard House School is a strong and successful 21-year-old, who is excited and ready for the next chapter.

IN HONOR OF GRADUATES AND ALUMNAE As we celebrate twenty years of outstanding education for middle school girls, members of the Quiltmaker’s Circle honor their daughters upon graduation and alumnae while helping launch Orchard House School rmly into its next twenty years of educating and inspiring middle school girls. Members make an annual nancial commitment for a ve-year period to the Annual Fund to reeect the value that they place on their daughter’s experience and the overall mission of the school. As someone who has spent most of my career working in the nonprofit sector, I knew that tuition alone does not keep a school like OHS running. I was so grateful that my daughter had been admitted to the class of 2015 that I wanted to epress my thanks with a gift of support.

I found it to be a brilliant strategy for keeping alumni parents engaged. While I believe I would have continued as a donor forever, creating a simple plan for me made it a no-brainer. Now my giving is set for the next five years and I can budget my other charitable contributions around it.

AUCTION VOLUNTEERS & SUPPORTERS There’s nothing better than an Orchard House School community celebration in the dazzling ballroom. Last March, our biennial dinner auction, OH! What A Night, was an event to remember. Parents, alumni, faculty, staff, friends and trustees raised their paddles to support our treasured school. The bidding was fast, furious and super-competitive as we raised more than $79,000, including the $8,355 raised for our special Fund-A-Need: Outdoor Lighting and Landscaping. We are in awe of our tireless volunteers (parents, alum parents, students and alum) who worked months on end, hour after hour, to create this remarkable event. BUILDING WITH A PURPOSE Celebrating our 20th anniversary, Orchard House School is a leader in the education and development of adolescent girls, and we are the only standalone middle school for girls in the Greater Richmond area. Our mission is to educate and inspire middle school girls in a responsive, academically engaging community that fosters each girl’s intellectual curiosity, social responsibility, emotional integrity, and physical wellbeing. Orchard House nurtures girls through their most challenging developmental stages, helping them grow to be confident leaders, creative thinkers, and artistic innovators – each a young woman who has found her voice and knows how to use it. Orchard House School thrives in a century-old building in the heart of Richmond’s historic Fan District. Our proximity to museums, parks, and universities enriches our programming, allowing us to use the city as our expanded classroom and athletic field. We have nurtured bonds of community service and friendship with organizations like Greenfield Residences, The Virginia Home, and the Ronald McDonald House. Our historical brick beauty on Allen Avenue is our home.
