A comeback for Margie Rice? “Rocky” had five sequels. Maybe outgoing Westminster Mayor Margie Rice has at least one in her. When the City Council met Wednesday night, the most prominent business item was filling a vacancy. With the elevation of Tri Ta from the council to the mayorship following his election victory on Nov. 6, a vacancy was created on the council. After the swearing in of Ta as mayor and Diana Carey and Sergio Contreras as councilmembers, the matter of the council vacancy was to be taken up. According to City Clerk Robin Roberts, the council has 60 days to either the fill the spot by appointment or to call a special election. The price tag of sending the matter to

The seating of board members and the selection of a new president top the agenda for tonight’s (Thursday) meeting of the Westminster School District Board of Trustees. Jamison Power and Amy Walsh, winners in the Nov. 6 balloting, will be administered the oath of office. Former board member Sergio Contreras (recently elected to the Westminster City Council) will swear in Power, while Westminster councilman Tyler Diep will swear in Amy Walsh.
voters is estimated at between $169,000 and $191,000. Outgoing Mayor Margie Rice initially said she it was time for her to leave the council, but in published reports suggested she might be interested in being appointed to the seat, Another possible appointee might be outgoing Councilman Tyler Diep, who was edged by Carey by less than 200 votes. Results of Wednesday’s meeting were too late for our print deadline. Go to our website at www.ggjournal.com for an update. There will also be coverage in the Dec. 17 and 20 editions of the Journal.
SANTA ANA (AP) – A former Westminster resident and one-time college district administrator was convicted Monday of second-degree murder in the bludgeoning death of his wife, after he dismembered her body and tried to burn it in a campfire, according to the Orange County district attorney’s office. After reporting deadlocks last Thursday and earlier Monday, the Superior Court jury agreed to convict Richard Gustav Forsberg after the prosecutor withdrew a firstdegree murder charge. The former Coast Community College District administrator recently living in Rancho Santa Margarita had a long-troubled marriage before he argued with his wife, Marcia Ann Forsberg on Feb. 9, 2010, and clubbed her several times with a goddess statue when she turned her back, prosecutors said. Forsberg kept her body in their home and decapitated and dismembered her body over the next few days. He bought two freezers, rented a recreational vehicle and took the parts of her frozen body to a campground at Lake Piru Recreation Area in Ventura County. He disposed of her by burning the dismembered parts of her body. The body was not found; Forsberg confessed the details to police. Forsberg’s attorney Calvin Schneider said the verdict was probably appropriate, and the jury worked hard on the case in their nine hours of deliberation. “I think the finding of second degree murder is one of the charges that’s consistent with the facts of the case,’’ said Schneider, adding that he had asked for voluntary manslaughter. “There’s no victory here. This lady lost her life and her husband ruined his life in a moment of rage and haste.’’ He faces a maximum of 15 years to life in prison at sentencing Feb. 1, 2013.
