Election Day is Tuesday
Tuesday is Election Day in California and Orange County. June 7 is the last day to vote in the 2022 Statewide Direct Primary Election. Votes cast by mail must be postmarked on or before June 7. You can drop off your ballot at a secure ballot drop box or at any Vote Center or pop-up voting location or vote in person. Hours on Tuesday are from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The second traffic fatality in one day occurred late Tuesday night in Huntington Beach. According to Jessica Cuchilla, public information officer for the HBPD, the fatal crash took place at around 11 p.m., on Bolsa Chica Street north of Argosy Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found a pedestrian – a 63-year-old woman – dead in the roadway. She had been struck by a
2019 Toyota Highlander. The driver of the Toyota, a 60-year old man from Huntington Beach, remained at the scene as did his passenger, a 49-year-old woman from the same city. It doesn’t appear that drugs or alcohol were a factor in the incident. In what’s called a preliminary investigation indicates that the Highlander was traveling southbound on Bolsa Chica Street and struck the pedestrian in the roadway – outside of the crosswalk – north of Argosy. New corona cases double in latest Orange Co. tally The average of confirmed new cases of coronavirus reported on Friday for Orange County nearly doubled the most recent previous tally released on Tuesday. According to the county health care agency, 3,091 new cases were reported over the previous three days. That’s a daily average of 1,030 (rounded off to the nearest whole number) compared to 519 on Tuesday, but more similar to the average a week ago of 991.
Deaths rose from zero to 11. Hospitalizations declined from 140 to 132 and use of intensive care units to coronavirus patients fell from 18 to 11. To date, Orange County has had 575,086 coronavirus cases, of which 549,985 are considered recovered. The death toll stands at 7,045. Nationally and statewide, new cases and are declining.
