Employee Pay Raises Are Approved City budget changes for 2022-23 OKd By Jim Tortolano Orange County Tribune

Pay raises for a wide variety of city employees and adjustments to the city budget were approved by Garden Grove City Council on Tuesday night. The council voted 6-0 – with Councilmember Stephanie Klopfenstein (District 5) absent – to take those actions. Approved were agreements with employee

unions, a middle management group and central management and city manager. Employees represented by the Orange County Employees Association (Garden Grove Chapter), Orange County Employees Association and Garden Grove Employee’s League will get a 3 percent pay increase effective July 2022, 3 percent base salary increase effective July 2023 and a 3 percent salary increase effective July 2024. Additionally, there will be medical benefit contribution increases in July 2022, January 2024 and Continued on page 2

A new city manager is hired on a 4-0 vote From a staff writer

A new city manager for Stanton will take office on July 18. At Tuesday’s meeting of the city council, an agreement to hire Hannah ShinHeydorn was approved on a 4-0 vote with Mayor David Shawver absent.

Shin-Heydorn, who is currently the city manager for the city of Signal Hill in Los Angeles County, will be paid an annual salary of $230,167. Additionally, she will receive a $100 monthly cell phone allowance and a $400 monthly auto alContinued on page 2

Parade, music fest are set The Fourth of July is so big in Huntington Beach that it takes several days to complete. Starting on Thursday, June 30 and extending through Monday, July 4, the annual Fourth of July celebration in Surf City will be back in its full glory after the interruptions of the coronavirus pandemic. Highlights of the activities begins Monday with the Surf City 5k run beginning at 7 a.m, on the historic route along Pacific Coast Highway and Main Street, finishing at Worthy Park. The parade, in its 118th version, will step off at 10 a.m. on Monday along Main Street from the beach to the civic center. It’s the centerpiece of the celebration and features

local celebrities, equestrian units, bands, floats and more. The Pier Plaza Festival, located at PCH and Main next to the city pier, will run from Friday, July 1 to Monday, July 4 with

retail, food and beverage vendors offering a wide variety of items to delight the eye and the palate. Pier Plaza Festival hours are Friday from 5-10 p.m, Saturday from 1-10 p.m., Continued on page 2

Coronavirus is down, up according to new report Coronavirus statistics for Orange County are continuing the same up-anddown process that has been in place for weeks. According to the county health care agency’s report on Tuesday, the latest tally of confirmed new cases is 3,688 for the past four days. That’s an average of 922 cases each day, a drop

from Friday’s 1,240 but higher than the figure of 897 a week ago. Deaths remained the same at six, but hospitalizations rose from 179 to 209. The use of intensive care units to treat COVID-19 patients ticked up slightly from 25 to 26. To date, confirmed cases in Orange County have Continued on page 7
