Inspired by the philanthropic work of Orlando hotelier Harris Rosen, Travel + Leisure Charitable Foundation has partnered with OCPS to launch the Travel + Leisure Eatonville Scholarship Program starting this school year. The scholarship will fund up to 200 scholarships for former Hungerford Elementary students who will graduate from Edgewater, Evans and Wekiva high schools and are accepted to a Florida state public college or university, community college or a technical school. Superintendent Barbara Jenkins was named chair of the board of directors of the Council of the Great City Schools in July. The council is a coalition of 75 of the nation's largest urban public school systems dedicated to improving the education of children in the inner cities. It will hold its annual fall conference in Orlando in October 2022.
