Eleven Ways of Looking at the Ocean
I
Among the silence of the world, the only thing heard
Are the soothing sounds of the ocean
II
A gasp for air, left feeling panicked and hopeless
Like drowning in the ocean
III
The ocean waves rise and fall
Marking the new beginnings and endings
Secrets lie beneath the facade shown to the world
The secret may be dangerous or extraordinary
Just like the underneath of the ocean surface
IV
A clear day’s bright blue color
The dipping sun’s vibrant pink
Captured on the ocean’s surface
Mirroring the sky’s emotions
And all who look at it
V
Feeling trapped
No place to go
Trapped under the ocean

VI
Childhood floats away
As a beach ball vanishes into ocean abyss
VII
The blurry blue in the distance appears to be soft
Almost blending in with the light blue sky
As you go closer you can see the gentle waves
Of the ocean
VIII
The ocean is a magnet
Drawing wanderers into its depth
IX
The deeper you go, the darker everything appears. The only sliver of light shines through The exterior of the ocean
X
A safe home, shelter, and sanctuary
For countless species
The ocean is a refuge
From the chaos of the world
XI
Birds flying above the ocean
No constraints, no boundaries
The exploration is endless

VI
A life seemingly shattered by the parting of ways
A “forever” turned into things past Mother’s arms cradle once again
To comfort her baby's heart

VII
Breathe deeply, exhale, repeat
Walk these steps and watch what you eat
Affirmations, meditations, manifestations
Take care of yourself like no one else ever has
VIII
The feeling of understanding overwhelms the soul
A tie to another, never before felt
This is how I'll spend the rest of my days
Through sickness and health, ‘til death do us part
IX
Warm blanket, cool sheets, white noise
Rain patters down on glass panes
A sleepy head rests on a pillow
Dreaming of utopia
X
Hospital bed, steady beeping, drip of meds
Cells mutate and divide, no way of stopping
Body withers and consciousness fades
I will be with you all the same
XI
In the twinkle of the stars and the flight of a butterfly
In the laugher of family
A heavenly reminder of a life well lived
Inspiration
XII
Work hard to achieve your dreams
Happiness is money, power, and fame
Satisfy the flesh to find satisfaction
When will it be enough?
XIII
Broken world shattered by sin
A God who so loved His creation
Blood and death upon a tree set with nails
Death is defeated and redemption has come

What happens to a childhood deferred?
Does it wisp away
Like a morning dew carried by the sun?
Or does it get shredded into oblivionAnd then fray?
Does it scream loudly to deaf ears
Or age-
Like a peaceful dove
Maybe it becomes hidden
Like a golden lode

Or does it explode?

What Happens to Love Deferred?
What happens to love deferred?
Does it linger around
Like a nagging pain?
Or occupy your mind without a soundAnd filling every thought?
Does it ever feel like a wound?
Or gushing blood that can’t be stopped-
Like a river of emotions flowing and nowhere to seclude
Maybe it just becomes a scar
Like a reminder of the heartache.
Or does it simply turn into a dream come true?
-Natalie Kirsch

Hill District
As the heart of my childhood, the neighborhood hums, With laughter and chatter, there was so much bubbly fun.
At Kenard Field we used to play, while our parents would sit in folded chairs, While the street lights flicker, sharing secrets in rhyme. Grandma B wears a smile, while the windows glow welcoming everyone who wanders.
The cracked sidewalks bring out stories of neglect, Shadows lingering near Chauncey where hope has faded, Litter screams louder than the silence of empty homes.
Beneath the grime, resilience blooms like a wildflower, Me and my friends’ laughter strays through the broken streets Many dreams rise from the ashes, painting a brighter tomorrow.

Music City
Honky-Tonk Heaven
City of Dreams
Home of the Stars
Heart of Tennessee
Some say it’s a tourist trap
Filled with fake cowboys and cowgirls
Overrun with country songs and bars
Beneath the surface
A strong soul thrives
Like a flowing river
Strong and independent
It screams out history

Where country music survives

What Happens to a Thought Deferred?
Does it leave, Like a departing train? Or hurt like a papercutWith nothing to gain? Does it build like anxiety? Or break downLike society

Maybe it infects and turns into a stye Or does our soul die?

Fractured Fairy Tales
Once upon a time in a wacky kingdom called Flibbertygibbet, there was a princess named Bella who loved to play pranks. Instead of waiting for a prince to rescue her, she spent her days pulling silly tricks on the royal court. One day, she decided to spice things up and invited a dragon named Sparky to the castle for a tea party.
Sparky wasn’t your typical fire breathing dragon: he was a vegetarian who loved to bake cakes! When he arrived, Bella had a plan. She replaced all the sugar with salt in his famous cake recipe As they sat down for tea, Sparky took a big bite and his face turned bright red!
Instead of getting mad he burst into laughter “This is the saltiest cake I’ve ever had!” He roared. Bella couldn't help but laugh along. They spent the afternoon creating the weirdest dessert imaginable, like spaghetti cupcakes and pickle pie.
Word spread across the kingdom about the hilarious baking adventures and soon everyone wanted to join the fun. Bella and Sparky became the best of friends, hosting wacky tea parties filled with laughter and strange treats In the end, Bella realized that friendship was the best kind of magic, and they all lived happily ever after, creating chaos and joy in Flibbertygibbet

Fractured Fairy Tales
Beauty and the Beast
Once upon a time, there was a young woman named Belle who was too busy reading books to care about anything else. One day, she got lost in the woods and stumbled upon a very strange castle. The Beast, who was actually a well-dressed but extremely grumpy man with terrible hygiene, answered the door.
“I'm cursed," he mumbled "You have to stay here with me for a while or I'll stay ugly forever.
Belle, rolling her eyes, shrugged. "Sure, whatever. But do you have Wi-Fi? I need to finish my book”
As the days went by, Belle discovered that the Beast wasn't so much a "beast" as a man with serious anger issues and a terrible diet. He ate pizza for every meal and never did his laundry
Eventually, Belle grew tired of the smell and told the Beast, "Look, if we're going to break this curse, you need to start eating vegetables and at least brush your teeth”
The Beast sighed "Fine”
So, Belle taught him how to eat salad, use soap, and even read a few selfhelp books. And just like that, the curse was broken, mainly because the Beast stopped being a mess and Belle found a decent place to hang her laundry
And they lived not happily ever after but at least reasonably well-adjusted
The End.

Once upon a time there was a golfer named Clyde. He had a one of a kind swing, it was wide

Stone fell onto a slope, It started to tumble and roll, It went along full of hope, But all the rolling started to take a toll.
The stone began to crumble and break, It could not stop for its sake, Once it finally settled down, All the surroundings turned brown.
And over time it remembered its loss, All the time that was lost, Just to be left covered in moss, Forgotten and alone, dealing with the cost -Fionn Hites

A marble in my chest, misshapen like a bullet clear and opulent made of lead.
Like an inconceivable thought, clearing out my head, to leave me only with the physicality of this loathsome dread.

I feel a tug on my lungs, a sting in my eyes, stab in my ribs— yet my heart is unoccupied. Empty.
