Even the first vehicles used belt drives for power transmission purposes. Ribbed V-belts with a trapezoidal cross-section made of chloroprene rubber (CR) soon asserted themselves and became the standard drive, also for various ancillaries. Classic CR drive systems develop cracks and jumps over time, which enables clear and timely service recommendations to be made simply from a visual inspection.
Ribbed V-belts made of EPDM have prevailed in the automotive industry since the 1990s. The use of EPDM is aimed at considerably extending the service life of the belts. The material is particularly characterised by a high temperature resistance and abrasion resistance.

THE PROBLEM
NO CLASSIC SYMPTOMS Even after a long service life of 150,000 km, the wear on an EPDM belt can only be safely measured by the loss of material. Even from an approx. 5 % material loss, the belt is severely limited in terms of its performance and thus puts the function of the ancillaries at risk.

LIMITS The optibelt DELTA CHAIN Carbon was tailored for high performance engines with turbocharger (PSI screw compressor / from Hi-Helix 14-71) and is predestined for maximum power transmission and enormous torques. Only one place came into question as a test environment: the racing track. Which is precisely where the latest innovation from Optibelt has already proven its performance.
32 RACES – ZERO WEAR The optibelt DELTA CHAIN Carbon supercharger was used in two vehicles run by the Australian Moresby team (Hot Shots Racing) during the 2015 / 16 season: In the Ford Ute #1999 driven by Stuart Moresby in the “Competition Eliminator Class” and in the Holden Statesman #2478 driven by Ryan Moresby in the “Door Slammers Class”. From the first race, the two vehicles delivered above-average performances: Stuart Moresby crowned an extra ordinary season with a victory in the 45th Western National Gold Christmas Race and second place in the “Competition Eliminator Class” overall rankings. All in all, Moresby’s Ford Ute completed 32 races – without loss of performance or visible signs of wear on the optibelt DELTA CHAIN Carbon supercharger!
The carbon fibres in the tension cord enable a much higher power transmission than high performance belts that have been reinforced with aramid or glass fibres.
“When Optibelt offered to put optibelt DELTA CHAIN Carbon through its paces for us under racing conditions, we were immediately interested,” says team boss, John Moresby. Replacing such a critical element as the drive belt with a completely new component is anything but a matter of course in the drag racing business. “Naturally: when you depart from the industry standard, you have to proceed step by step – but when the good results with the optibelt DELTA CHAIN Carbon were repeatedly confirmed, we really went for it.” Relying on the durability of the optibelt DELTA CHAIN Carbon, the mechanics coaxed an extra 300 HP from the engine. “We knew that we would definitely also get this power – 2,500 HP altogether – with optibelt DELTA CHAIN Carbon on the road,” says Moresby with a grin. No doubt that Hot Shots Racing will also rely on the optibelt DELTA CHAIN Carbon in 2016/17.

We are optimising our warehouse logistics for you – and the development of the new Optibelt logistics centre at the Höxter site is progressing nicely. The central warehouse has been extended to an area of approx. 3,000 m2, whilst the size of the hall is around 2,700 m2. The automatic small parts store is already complete. It has room for over 30,000 storage boxes on eight racks in four aisles. They are served by automatic storage and retrieval machines – with up to 140 loads going in and out an hour. The new narrow-aisle warehouse with around 9,000 pallet bays is also impressive.
An innovation picks up prizes: our innovation, optibelt RBK SCC with service indicator, received an award from a specialist jury at EQUIP AUTO, the leading international trade fair for the automotive aftermarket: the optibelt RBK SCC, a world first, was awarded the “Silver Trophy” in the “Spare Parts & Aftermarket” category. EQUIP AUTO has been one of the most important forums for the French automotive aftermarket for forty years. The awards, which honour outstanding products and developments in four categories and attract media attention, have been handed out since 1985.
The focus of the new logistics centre is on efficiency and on supply processes that conserve resources and are largely automated. Because any solution is only as efficient as the warehouse logistics that accompanies it. And that is precisely why our new warehouse will go fully operational in autumn 2016.
