Lessons from the journey

Reflections and insights from the team supporting social projects

This book captures the trajectory, dedication, and impact generated over the years by the Helping Those Who Help Program by Gloria Kriete Foundation. Behind every transformation, there are people and organizations deeply committed to creating well-being and new opportunities for their communities. Furthermore, this publication incorporates the official results for the year 2025.

Each project presented here reflects the collaborative efforts of community leaders, social entrepreneurs, non-governmental organizations, and strategic partners who drive sustainable solutions and expand opportunities for thousands of Salvadorans.

The actions carried out across the areas of Community Development, Social Entrepreneurship, and NGOs demonstrate that social impact is strengthened when different sectors unite their capabilities, knowledge, and resources in favor of the common good.

This book stands as proof that by joining forces, sharing a common purpose, and working collaboratively, it is possible to generate a deeper and more lasting impact. Because when those who help find the support they need to continue their vital work, opportunities multiply to build an El Salvador with greater well-being and development for everyone.

Foreword

A Purpose Partnership to Transform El Salvador

It is an honor for the Atlantida Foundation to join in commemorating a monumental milestone in the history of solidarity in our country: the twentieth anniversary of the Helping Those Who Help Program by Gloria Kriete Foundation. As one of the strategic partners in this mission, we have witnessed how a spark of change ignited two decades ago has evolved today into a living torch that illuminates the path for hundreds of organizations and community leaders.

For the Atlantida Foundation, being part of this network of allies in the 2025 edition is not merely an institutional commitment, but a dedicated investment in a development model where collaboration serves as the engine that multiplies opportunities for thousands of Salvadorans.

This book in your hands is much more than an annual report; it is a tribute to a collective journey and a testament of hope turned into action. Its pages reflect the evolution of a program that has successfully adapted to the challenges of time, expanding its reach from supporting established NGOs to driving social entrepreneurship and community development projects. The results presented here are undeniable. By the close of 2025 and since its inception in 2006, the program has accumulated a historic investment of 9.4 million dollars, benefiting more than 2.7 million people through 392 projects that have transformed realities across the entire national territory. In this past year alone, we have seen how 27 new projects received the necessary support to make an impact in critical areas such as health,

education, infrastructure, and water and sanitation, impacting the lives of over 30,000 Salvadorans.

Yet, behind these figures are real faces, stories of resilience, and the courage of those who, from the heart of their communities, choose to take action to generate well-being.

We invite readers to explore these pages with the openness of someone who wishes to understand the true meaning of helping: being present, listening, and walking alongside others. May these footprints of impact inspire us to continue writing, together, new stories of transformation and progress for future generations.

Leadership

Perspectives and commitment of the Gloria Kriete Foundation’s leaders

ROBERTO KRIETE

When we embarked on this journey, we were convinced that the most powerful solutions come from those who have a deep understanding of the challenges facing their communities. It was with this vision that Helping those Who Help was created—an initiative designed to support those who transform lives through their work, commitment, and dedication to serving others.

Over the years, we have had the privilege of supporting hundreds of organizations and social leaders who, through creativity and perseverance, have turned challenges into opportunities. Every project we have supported represents a story of collective effort and a testament to the tremendous potential that exists within our country.

What began as an effort to strengthen the work of social organizations has evolved into a network of stakeholders committed to creating lasting change. Through this collaboration, we have seen communities build their capacities, develop solutions, and generate an impact that transcends generations.

The pages in this report reflect that journey. They share the stories of individuals who chose to take action, organizations that expanded their reach, and communities that discovered new opportunities to move forward. Each experience demonstrates that sustainable development is possible when trust, collaboration, and a shared vision come together.

To everyone who has been part of this story, we extend our deepest appreciation and recognition. Thank you for inspiring us through your work and for demonstrating that, when we unite our efforts around a common purpose, we have the power to transform lives and build a brighter future for El Salvador.

May these stories remind us that change begins with committed individuals and that, together, we can continue creating opportunities that foster well-being, hope, and progress for future generations.

FERNANDO KRIETE

The development of a country depends on individuals and organizations willing to turn challenges into opportunities. For nearly two decades, Helping Those who Help has served as a platform for identifying, strengthening, and supporting initiatives that create value within communities and contribute to the well-being of thousands of Salvadorans.

As the realities of the country have evolved, so too has the program. The introduction of new areas of support has allowed us to expand our vision and support projects that drive community development, foster innovation, and create sustainable economic opportunities for more people.

We have seen that when tools, knowledge, and resources are provided to those leading change processes, the results extend far beyond the original objectives. Capacities are strengthened, new opportunities are created, and solutions are built to endure over time.

None of this would have been possible without the trust and commitment of social organizations, entrepreneurs, community leaders, volunteers, and partners who have shared our conviction that working together has the power to transform lives and communities.

This book brings together experiences that reflect the impact of this collective effort. Each story demonstrates what can be achieved when purpose, collaboration, and a shared commitment to the common good come together.

May these pages also serve as an invitation to continue advancing initiatives that create opportunities, strengthen communities, and help build a more prosperous, inclusive, and hopeful El Salvador for future generations.

Behind every milestone achieved is a story of effort, collaboration, and transformation. Over the years, Helping Those who Help has served as a platform that connects resources, knowledge, and opportunities with organizations, entrepreneurs, and leaders committed to creating positive change in their communities.

The achievements reflected in these pages are the result of the collective efforts of hundreds of individuals who chose to take action in response to the challenges facing their communities. Each supported initiative represents an opportunity created, a capacity strengthened, and a community moving toward a future with greater possibilities for development.

Beyond the projects implemented and the investments made, the greatest achievement has been the creation of a network of stakeholders who share a common vision: to contribute to the well-being of individuals and promote sustainable solutions that generate long-term impact. We have seen organizations grow, businesses become established, and communities discover new ways to drive their own development.

This book captures part of that journey and allows us to recognize the contributions of those who have played a leading role in these stories. Each page reflects the commitment, innovation, and perseverance of individuals who believe that change is possible when people work with purpose and in collaboration.

To all our partners, organizations, entrepreneurs, community leaders, and volunteers, thank you for placing your trust in this collective effort. The achievements we celebrate today are the result of a shared vision and the conviction that, together, we can continue creating opportunities that transform lives and strengthen the development of El Salvador.

THE EVOLUTION

of the Helping Those who Help program

Over more than two decades, the Helping Those who Help Program by Gloria Kriete Foundation has undergone significant growth and evolution across all its categories, as well as within its training pillar, with the goal of generating impact in different areas that improve the quality of life of Salvadorans. Over time, the program has evolved as follows:

1

Categories of the Helping Those who Help Program – Since 2018

Initially, the program focused exclusively on NGOs, providing funding to established initiatives. In 2018, two new categories were introduced: Social Entrepreneurship and Community Development. This expansion made it possible to support not only formal organizations, but also entrepreneurs with social impact business models and community leaders implementing local projects.

Training and Incubation as a Core Pillar

The program evolved into a comprehensive capacitybuilding model. For entrepreneurs, workshops were introduced in project management, finance, marketing, legal frameworks, and innovation. Likewise, specialized training processes were designed for community leaders, focused on leadership development and the implementation of social initiatives. This approach not only ensures the grant funding distribution but also promotes the sustainability and scalability of the projects supported. At the same time, the program continued to offer workshops aimed at strengthening NGOs in El Salvador.

Increased Investment and Resource Diversification

The program has grown significantly in both scale and reach, evolving from its initial investment in 2006 into a platform that brings together partners who believe in the model and are committed to generating meaningful change.

Beyond supporting the Salvadoran population, Helping Those who Help empowers local leaders and changemakers who are working to strengthen community resilience and foster a dynamic social ecosystem through collaboration.

At Helping Those who Help, we believe that by working together, we can achieve better results and continue creating a positive impact in El Salvador.

In 2025, as part of the commemoration of its 20th anniversary, Gloria Kriete Foundation introduced a new grantmaking format by incorporating a series of categories into its NGO funding Gala, allowing for a more precise segmentation of the impact generated by participating projects.

Special Edition Fund: 20th Anniversary Category

In the 2025 edition, and as part of the commemoration of the 20th anniversary of Gloria Kriete Foundation, special recognition was given to the most outstanding NGOs that participated in the Helping Those Who Help Program between 2006 and 2024, selecting those whose projects demonstrated the most effective use of awarded funds.

TRAINING Areas

The training pillar of the program emerges as a complementary component that serves as a learning space for leaders from different communities across our country, as well as for social entrepreneurs from various sectors and geographic areas.

This space enables them to acquire tools to effectively present their needs through the development of social projects and the creation of sustainable business plans, generating a significant impact on their communities, their families, and the country as a whole.

Subsequently, these groups can participate with their projects in our annual call for proposals, as well as apply to other types of external funding opportunities with the projects they have developed throughout the capacity-building process.

We impact Salvadoran entrepreneurs through the FGK Incubator, community leaders through specialized workshops designed for them, and NGOs through training programs that strengthen organizations across El Salvador.

Cumulative

The FGK Incubator supports entrepreneurs with triple-impact projects (economic, social, and environmental) through comprehensive training and strategic support. Its objective is to strengthen key competencies and promote the sustainable growth of profitable and responsible ventures. To achieve this, it has received the support of prestigious institutions such as Bridge for Billions, INCAE, and INNBOX, which strengthen its educational offering through hybrid and in-person learning modalities. Project Name: Building Sustainable Development Through the Inclusive Agroecological School

PERKIN EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOUNDATION (PEOF).

20th Anniversary Special Fund: $100,000.00

For PEOF, being part of Helping Those Who Help has meant far more than simply receiving a grant. It has been an opportunity to become part of an ecosystem of connections, a community of organizations that share the belief that sustainable development begins with people and the communities they call home.

What we value most about the Gloria Kriete Foundation is its ability to believe in organizations and strengthen the work that is already underway. Through this program, we have not only received resources to advance initiatives such as the Inclusive Agroecological School; we have also gained opportunities to showcase our work, share knowledge, participate in conferences, build partnerships, and connect with individuals who are transforming their communities across the country. That ecosystem of trust, collaboration, and learning has been just as valuable as the recognition itself.

Thanks to this support, we have consolidated a comprehensive community intervention model that facilitates connections for social change throughout the region, with a focus on sustainable and inclusive solutions centered on education, production, science, and technology. We have seen families improve their livelihoods, young people discover science and agroecology as tools for transforming their realities, and community leaders strengthen their capacities to drive local development.

We share with the Gloria Kriete Foundation the conviction that communities possess the talent, ability, and determination to move forward; often, they simply need an opportunity and someone who believes in them. That is why this recognition represents far more than funding for us, it represents the trust that propels people, organizations, and communities to flourish.

ADESCO Azacualpa, Panchimalco, San Salvador

Funding $15,000Awarded:

For years, our community has faced many challenges due to the poor condition of the road. It has been dangerous for both vehicles and the families who live here, especially during the rainy season, when access becomes even more difficult.

I remember several accidents caused by the condition of the road. One of the incidents that affected us most involved a vehicle carrying a family that plunged into a ravine. We have also experienced difficult situations related to health emergencies. On one occasion, a pregnant young woman could not be transported because no vehicle was able to reach her. She had to give birth in the community and was later carried in a hammock to a location where an ambulance could pick her up.

These challenges have also affected our children and young people. Many of them must walk long distances to get to school because there is no transportation available, and during the rainy season the risks increase due to the road conditions.

For all these reasons, this project is deeply meaningful to us. The Miranda community is very happy about the work being carried out because we know that improved road access will make it easier for families, students, healthcare providers, and visitors to reach our community. After so many years of facing these difficulties, we trust that, with God’s help, things will now be different.

Scalo Project

Second Place, 2025 Edition

$20,000

As a company, we always dreamed of creating a digital tool designed to help SMEs innovate and make better decisions. While searching for opportunities to turn that idea into reality, we discovered the Helping Those Who Help program, an initiative that inspired confidence from the very beginning due to the transparency and openness with which the entire process was conducted.

One of the most memorable moments came when we were informed that we had been selected as finalists. From that point forward, we entered an intense and enriching preparation phase, receiving guidance from mentors who helped us strengthen our pitch, identify the key elements of our project, and communicate our value proposition more effectively.

It was not until the rehearsals leading up to the final event that we truly understood the magnitude of the opportunity before us. We shared the stage with other

social entrepreneurs who, like us, sought to create a positive impact through their ideas.

Thanks to God, we were awarded second place and received a $20,000 prize. This support will allow us to develop Scalo, an innovation tool for SMEs designed to analyze information, identify opportunities for improvement, and anticipate situations that may affect business growth. Our vision is to transform it into a strategic co-pilot that helps companies innovate and make better decisions.

Beyond the prize itself, the most valuable aspect was everything we learned throughout the process. The mentorship, training, and feedback strengthened our project and helped us grow as entrepreneurs. Without a doubt, this experience brought us much closer to achieving the dream that inspired us to begin this journey.

Partners in our MISSION

Over the years, many partners have placed their trust in our platform to help bring meaningful dreams and social projects to life. Thanks to this shared commitment, eight partners; including companies and foundations, joined the 2025 edition of the program.

We would like to express our deepest gratitude to our partners. Their support and commitment have been instrumental in enabling jointly awarded funding to reach $50,000 in 2025, significantly expanding our impact across new communities and sectors.

Lessons from the JOURNEY

Below you will discover the experiences of the leaders from each category and how the Helping Those Who Help Program has contributed to transforming their work and generating a positive impact in their dayto-day lives.

"Major transformations begin with committed organizations and people willing to serve."

Every year, although the program cycle maintains a similar structure, the experience of managing projects is completely different. In the 2025 edition, in my role supporting organizations in the NGO category, I had the opportunity to closely follow a process that began with the call for proposals and project applications and continued through the monitoring of their implementation in the communities.

One of the most meaningful moments this year was the implementation of the first Project Design Workshop for NGOs. Designing and delivering this space was a deeply enriching experience, as it helped strengthen the participating organizations’ capacities and provided them with tools to better structure their proposals. I am very satisfied knowing that several of them successfully secured funding, reflecting the program’s purpose: ensuring each organization has the necessary elements to present robust, high-impact projects.

The 2025 edition also had a special significance due to the 20th anniversary of the Gloria Kriete Foundation. This milestone introduced new participation and recognition dynamics that made the process more challenging, but also more enriching for everyone involved.

Since project implementation began in January of this year, it has been very valuable to observe how proposals are transformed into concrete actions. Seeing the progress of each initiative helps us better understand territorial realities and recognize the commitment of teams working daily to generate change in their communities.

Working with organizations that address different issues is a constant learning experience. Each project brings new perspectives, challenges, and solutions that enrich both the program and my own understanding of social project management.

However, the most valuable part is always seeing how results become tangible in people’s lives. The commitment of organizations and their ability to turn ideas into action is what drives sustainable impact.

On a personal level, this experience reaffirmed my commitment to supporting social organizations and reminded me that behind every project lies a real opportunity to transform lives and strengthen communities.

"It is not only about creating businesses, but about supporting the people building solutions for the future."

2025 was a year of great learning for me within the FGK Incubator. Each edition brings new challenges, but also the satisfaction of seeing more entrepreneurs gain the tools, connections, and support they need to grow their businesses.

One of the most important challenges has been bringing the incubator closer to entrepreneurs across the country, especially in the eastern region. In previous years, many had to travel long distances to participate in in-person activities, which was an additional burden for people already dedicating significant time and energy to building their businesses.

That is why we have embraced a hybrid methodology that combines virtual spaces with in-person experiences. Technology allows us to reach further and support more entrepreneurs, but we also know that human connections remain essential. Many of the alliances, collaborations, and relationships that exist today among our incubatees were born in these networking spaces where they could share experiences, challenges, and learnings with others on a similar path.

This year we continued strengthening our presence in Eastern El Salvador through the bootcamp, now in its second

edition, which has allowed us to expand the incubator’s reach. Seeing entrepreneurs from different parts of the country connect, learn together, and support one another is one of the most rewarding aspects of this program.

However, none of this would be possible without a careful selection of participants. We look for committed entrepreneurs with a clear vision and a genuine desire to create positive impact through their businesses. Entrepreneurship is not an easy path, and it is important to be surrounded by people who share that same determination and drive to grow.

The Innbox methodology, has been key in supporting this process. It allows entrepreneurs to validate their ideas, strengthen their business models, and move forward with a clearer strategic vision for growth.

Looking back, I see a year in which we strengthened connections, expanded opportunities, and continued building a more solid and inclusive entrepreneurial ecosystem. 2025 was a year to plant, learn, and grow alongside those who believe in entrepreneurship as a force for transformation. We now continue working to ensure those efforts bear fruit in the years ahead.

"Supporting a community means believing in its ability to transform its own reality."

Throughout my experience in community development, I have learned that every project represents much more than an investment or a finished output. Behind each initiative are people with dreams, needs, and a genuine desire to improve their living conditions. That is why one phrase has stayed with me throughout my journey: “Those who have not faced adversity do not know their own strength.” Over time, I have realized this applies not only to the communities I work with, but also to my own professional growth.

One of the most meaningful lessons has been understanding that the true impact of our work is not limited to project execution. A large part of our role is helping people discover their own potential. I have worked with community leaders and organizations who initially doubted their ability to design proposals, manage resources, or implement projects. However, through guidance, tools, and close support, I have seen them successfully develop strong initiatives, manage funding, and lead processes that benefit their communities.

This experience has taught me that monitoring and evaluation should not only be seen as mechanisms to measure results, but also as opportunities to strengthen capacities, identify improvements, and ensure that every

effort truly contributes to transforming lives. Supporting communities throughout the process, listening to their concerns, solving challenges together, and celebrating achievements has become one of the most rewarding aspects of my work.

Each community I have encountered has left a different lesson. Some have shown me the value of perseverance; others, the importance of organization, solidarity, and collective work. All of them have reminded me that sustainable development is built when people believe in themselves and have opportunities to demonstrate their capabilities.

Today I continue strengthening my knowledge and skills because I am convinced there is always something new to learn. My commitment is to keep growing professionally so I can better support communities and contribute to projects that generate positive, sustainable, and meaningful impact. Ultimately, beyond indicators or results, what gives meaning to this work is knowing that every effort can become an opportunity for people to build a better future for themselves and those around them.

"Developing

community leadership means creating agents of change capable of driving sustainable impact."

During 2025, I had the opportunity to be part of the Community Development category of the Helping Those Who Help Program. This experience was especially meaningful, as it allowed me to get closer to community realities and better understand, through their leaders, the challenges, needs, and opportunities present in each community.

One of the most significant learnings was discovering that community leadership takes many forms. Some leaders stand out for their organizational skills, others for their closeness to people, their service vocation, or their ability to mobilize collective efforts. However, they all share a common purpose: contributing to the well-being of their community and creating development opportunities for those around them.

I also realized the importance of supporting and strengthening these leaders’ capabilities, as they represent a key bridge between communities and our foundation. Thanks to their deep local expertise and the trust they have built among their neighbors, they play a crucial role in identifying needs, promoting participation, and turning initiatives into concrete actions.

Throughout this process, I observed that the desire to help is as strong as the desire to learn. Many leaders actively participate in training spaces because they recognize that knowledge allows them to serve their communities better. Seeing how acquired learning turns into projects, activities, and works that benefit others has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my role.

This experience reaffirmed my belief that training is a powerful tool for community development and that strengthening a leader contributes to strengthening an entire community. It also allowed me to value the impact created when committed individuals are supported and given opportunities to enhance their leadership skills.
