Welcome to OPERA San Antonio’s 2022/23 Season.
This year celebrates our return to two fully staged operas at the Tobin Center, plus an exciting third production in Spanish, as well as our annual gala. We begin with - Italian verismo opera at its grandest, made famous by the incredibly moving aria “Vesti la giubba.” Be swept away by the riveting and dramatic music of this play within a play, and then join us to celebrate OSA’s Second Annual Gala immediately following the 80-minute performance. Come meet the talented stars of hear a few lovely pop-up performances, and, of course…. see the acrobats!!
Maria de Buenos Aires, by the brilliant Argentine tango composer Astor Piazzolla in the Carlos Alvarez Theater. This sultry tango opera is the first time OSA has produced a Spanish language opera and will be an exciting, immersive experience. Cocktail tables surround the dance floor, where guests will interact with dancers and singers as the story unfolds. Food and libations will be flowing! The season concludes with Shakespeare’s familiar tale of star-crossed lovers in Romeo by the French composer Gounod. This will be one of our biggest productions to date. Our exciting cast will share the stage with dancers from Ballet San Antonio. The stunningly beautiful music will bring the young lovers' story to life, while epic sets and costumes create a feast for the eyes.
And that’s not all we are up to! Our robust education programs are critical to our mission to serve the community by reaching out to all 10 city districts, helping teachers bring not only music and art into their schools, but also incorporate cross-curricular areas of study to make as big an impact as possible. We also have free community events throughout the year to help us share the power of opera with adults and kids alike. We can’t wait to see you at the opera, in the schools, and in the community!
