As we look back at 2023, we invite you to reflect with us on many noteworthy milestones that brought our community together and boosted OPERA San Antonio‘s growth. From the passion of Puccini to the enchantment of Engelbert Humperdinck, we strive to deliver exceptional productions that touch the hearts and minds of all who experience them.
At its core, opera is an art form rooted in collaboration, making each production a unique opportunity to bring artists and fellow arts organizations together to create an unforgettable experience for our audience In our recent production of Hansel and Gretel, OPERA San Antonio (OSA) brought together all five Resident Companies of the Tobin Center (Classical Music Institute, Ballet San Antonio, Children’s Chorus of San Antonio, and Youth Orchestras of San Antonio) for the first time in the Tobin Center’s history OSA’s collaborative efforts are a catalyst for transformation, ensuring that our artistic landscape remains dynamic, evolving, and unique to San Antonio.
In the 2022-2023 season, our education programs achieved record-breaking participation from 113 schools, reaching 9,410 students In addition to those programs, OSA held over 30 free community events throughout San Antonio and continued the South Texas Tour with visits to our neighbors in Laredo and Uvalde
Your support is more than just a gift; it's a vote of confidence in the power of the arts to inspire, change lives, and bring people together. Thank you for your investment in OPERA San Antonio. Together, we will continue to deliver on our mission to broaden the impact of opera to enthusiasts and newcomers alike
Warmly, E Loren Meeker Tobin Endowment

In February OSA presented Maria de Buenos Aires, by the Argentinian tango composer Astor Piazzolla in the Carlos Alvarez Theater. This sultry tango opera was the first time OSA produced a Spanish-language show, transforming the Alvarez into an exciting, immersive experience Cocktail tables surrounded the dance floor, where guests at the sold-out performances interacted with dancers and singers as the story unfolded
OPERA San Antonio strives to provide educational opportunities for adults through access to pre-show lectures, backstage tours, special events, and online resources. Patrons can stream archived episodes of OSA's series "Beyond the Production" and "Charlas Musicales" containing industry artist interviews in English and Spanish through OSA's website at anytime from the comfort of their homes.
During the 2021/22 Season, a partnership between OPERA San Antonio, the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico - San Antonio (UNAM), and the Tobin Center was formed to offer Spanish-language opera appreciation workshops, taught by renowned opera critic Gerardo Kleinburg. Each workshop consists of three sessions which culminate in the attendance of an OSA production at the Tobin Center. In 2022/23 UNAM offered a workshop for Maria de Buenos Aires. Our final dress for this production hosted 40 UNAM Workshop attendees and 15 UNAM students

Immerse yourself in the world of opera as you get the inside scoop on what it takes to create this grand spectacle. This behind the scenes tour is guided by General & Artistic Director, E. Loren Meeker and our Music Director, Francesco Milioto. They delve into the world of scenery, props, costumes, the orchestra, and more
During the pandemic, we had a blast connecting with fellow opera lovers during special weekly Zoom gatherings created just for OSA donors which we lovingly branded as “Cocktails & Conversation.” By popular demand, we ’ ve since continued this program in-person, connecting our donors with OSA leadership and staff as they lend their experience and insight into the upcoming opera
Before each performance, donors and special guests of OPERA San Antonio gather in the Tobin Center’s Leroy Denman Founders Lounge to grab a cocktail and share in the excitement of the opera they are about to experience
