Among Donizetti’s best-known works such as L’elisir d’amore and Lucia di Lammermoor, his late opera buffa Don Pasquale has a sparkling wit and gaiety in its own right. The work combines touching romance and hilarious comedy with beautiful bel canto music. Opera Hong Kong strives to nurture local talents by engaging them in its productions. We are proud to see Candice Chung, Alexander Chen and Henry Ngan, graduates from the Jockey Club Opera Hong Kong Young Artist Development and Education Programme, and Anna Zhang and Jiang Kuncheng, Master’s degree students from The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, taking up the leading roles in this delightful yet difficult opera. Together, they will perform with our accomplished local opera singers Apollo Wong and Albert OnLim.behalf of Opera Hong Kong, I would like to extend our deepest appreciation to the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau, the Hong Kong Arts Development Council and the Leisure and Cultural Services Department for their long-term support. Welcome to Opera Hong Kong’s (OHK) semi-stage opera Donizetti’s Don Pasquale. Rossini, Bellini and Donizetti are the three proponents of the bel Canto era in early 19th century. Don Pasquale, one of the all-time favourite comic operas, set to music that’s funny, clever, yet jawdroppingly demanding—and yet it touches one’s deep souls that make it a great humane comedy in opera. Tonight’s performance features entirely the city’s brilliant young talent. Apollo Wong has appeared in over 20 OHK’s productions, taking up important roles such as Figaro in The Marriage of Figaro, Frere Laurent in Roméo et Juliette and Sarastro in The Magic Flute Albert Lim, a highly versatile artist in both opera and concert performances, has also collaborated with OHK for many years. He was the Chorus Master of OHK’s Abridged Versions of Operas by Mozart – Cosi fan tutte x The Magic Flute (2020), Die Fledermaus (2018) and Opera Carnival (2017). Candice Chung, Alexander Chen and Henry Ngan are graduates of the Jockey Club Opera Hong Kong Young Artist and Education Programme. They are widely recognised in the Annual Performances of the and also OHK’s own grand productions such as Madama Butterfly (2022), Carmen (2021) and The Marriage of Figaro (2020). These up-and-coming artists have garnered accolades from audience and critics, and begun to establish their credentials.

Opera Hong Kong has committed to nurturing young talent since its inception by providing ample performance opportunities. Anna Zhang and Jiang Kuncheng are two very talented Master degree students of The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. Tonight’s performance serves as one of the important platforms for them to enrich their experience and hone their performance skills. We have great pleasure to have Olsi Qinami, Principal Conductor and Music Director of London City Philharmonic, and the Conductor of Hounslow Symphony Orchestra, to be our conductor. He was praised having “an accomplished technique” when he studied in the Riccardo Muti Opera Academy and the Jarvi Conducting Academy. Last but not least, Professor Nancy Yuen, Head of Vocal Studies at HKAPA collaborates with us again to relive this wonderful opera. Please support our young artists and enjoy the show!

The recent development of the Greater Bay Area has created an environment for OHK to initiate more collaborations and bring the art of opera to a wider audience.

香港歌劇院成立於 2003 年,是本地首個專 業歌劇藝團。在世界知名的香港男高音莫 華倫帶領下,歌劇藝術在這個亞洲大都會 得以發揚光大。歌劇院多年來致力製作世 界級的歌劇節目,劇目已涵蓋所有主要歌 劇作品,曾合作過的歌劇院及音樂節包括 羅馬歌劇院、意大利陶爾米納歌劇藝術節、 德國艾褔特劇院、法國尼斯歌劇院、中國 國家大劇院及上海歌劇院。 2019 年,香港歌劇院榮獲香港藝術發展局 甄選為「優秀藝團計劃」中三個受資助藝 團之一,以表揚歌劇院多年在藝術推廣上 的努力。這項持續五年的資助讓香港歌劇 院有更大的發展。 香港歌劇院積極培養本地優秀年青的歌唱 家。歌劇院於 2015 年推出為期三年的「賽 馬會香港歌劇院青年演唱家發展及教育計 劃」非常成功,得到各界認同。香港賽馬 會慈善信託基金遂繼續全力贊助,推出新 一輪由 2019 年至 2022 年的三年培訓計劃, 向十二位本地青年演唱家提供密集訓練。 計劃經已在 2022 年 3 月完滿結束。 香港歌劇院亦定期為年青一代舉辦各項教 育及外展活動,包括學校歌劇巡演、夏令 營及大師班。灣仔音樂中心除籌辦兒童合 唱團的恆常班外,更提供由幼兒至成人不 同類型的課程,範圍廣闊。香港歌劇院於 2004 年及 2008 年成立香港歌劇院合唱團 及香港歌劇院兒童合唱團,為本地合唱界 注入新的動力。 近年大灣區發展亦營造了發展藝術的環境, 香港歌劇院將把握機遇與內地合作,向區 內推廣歌劇藝術。

Opera Hong Kong 香港歌劇院

Founded in 2003 Opera Hong Kong ( OHK) is Hong Kong’s first professional opera company. Over the years, the company has gone from strength to strength under the artistic direction of Warren Mok, the internationally acclaimed Hong Kong tenor. OHK has elevated opera in the Asia’s world city, with many world class productions covering all major works in the operatic canon and has collaborated with opera houses and festivals including Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Taormina Opera Festival, Theater Erfurt, Opéra de Nice, National Centre for the Performing Arts and Shanghai Opera House.

In 2019, OHK was selected by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council as one of the three recipients of the coveted “ Eminent Arts Group Scheme” . The Scheme’s consecutive 5 year funding has become a boost to further the company’s development.

OHK is committed to promoting the city’s brightest, young opera singers. In 2015, OHK launched the Jockey Club Opera Hong Kong Young Artist Development and Education Programme ( the Programme ) , a three year opera training programme designed to nurture ten young local artists. The success of the Programme led to its renewal by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust for another three years from 2019 to 2022, providing intensive training to 12 local artists. The Programme has been completed successfully in March 2022.

OHK also places a strong emphasis on its education and community activities. Opera school tours, summer schools and master classes are held regularly to reach young audiences. The music centre in Wanchai provides a wide range of courses for early age children to adult in addition to Children Chorus classes. The OHK Chorus and the OHK Children Chorus were established in 2004 and 2008 respectively and are becoming recognised contributors on the local choral scene.

Scene 1 to Scene 3: Don Pasquale’s house

“There’ll be a new bride here tomorrow,” he tells Sofronia: “Ernesto’s moving back in with Norina.” “That hussy! It’s her or me!” she exclaims. Pasquale rubs his hands at the prospect of being rid of her. Malatesta informs Pasquale that this means he must actually let Ernesto marry Norina, or otherwise Sofronia won’t go. “OK, fine,” says Pasquale. Ernesto comes when called. Malatesta negotiates not just his marriage to Norina, but a stipend for 4000 scudi. “We can do the marriage right away, because the bride’s right here!” Malatesta tells Pasquale and unveils Sofronia as Norina. The real Sofronia’s still in the convent.

Scene 1 to Scene 5: Room in Don Pasquale’s house

Scene 6 to Scene 7: Don Pasquale’s Garden Ernesto, hidden, serenades Norina; they then sing of their love together. Pasquale and Malatesta arrive, but too late to catch the interloper, who slips away. Sofronia meanwhile plays the innocent wife and refuses to leave as Pasquale demands. Malatesta tells Pasquale to let him handle it.

Pasquale realizes he’s been beaten, and concedes with good humour. Norina reminds everyone that this is what comes to old men who try to marry younger women.

Just then Ernesto bursts back in: “Just in time: we need another witness!” says Pasquale. Ernesto is shocked to see Norina apparently married his uncle, but Malatesta urgently whispers to him to stay calm. His shock turns to delight when Sofronia immediately turns on Pasquale, telling to back off when he tries to embrace her, his new wife. She informs Pasquale that he is much too old to squire her around town but that Ernesto will instead do very nicely. Finally, she demands that he upgrade the house and servants at great expense. Malatesta sends the flabbergasted Pasquale off to bed. Act III

Malatesta intercepts Ernesto and tells him that the final step in their plan is ready to go. Pasquale, a shadow of his former self, sees Malatesta and tells him of the slap and, worse, the assignation described in the letter, and suggests calling the police. Malatesta convinces Pasquale that instead they go to the garden themselves and catch the lovers red-handed. Delighted at this opportunity for revenge, Pasquale excitedly concurs.

Don Pasquale’s physician, Dr Malatesta, arrives to announce that he’s found just the girl for the old man to marry: his own sister. Pasquale, overcome, joyfully announces that he’ll have not just one heir, but dozens. Once Malatesta leaves to fetch the mystery bride, Pasquale’s nephew, ward and erstwhile heir Ernesto arrives. “You didn’t want the girl I chose for you,” Pasquale tells him — “I love Norina”, Ernesto interjects but is ignored — “so get out! I’m getting married myself!” “You, married?” splutters Ernesto. “Wait, consult our mutual friend Malatesta first.” “I already have!” Pasquale counters. Ernesto, thinking himself betrayed by his best friend, sinks into despair.

Act I

Scene 4 to Scene 5: Norina’s house Norina, reading a romance novel, laughs at how naive it is. “I know all this already,” she says. A letter arrives, from Ernesto, with bad news. Malatesta arrives, laughs off the letter, and tells Norina of his plan to trick Don Pasquale ... and how she must play her part. Act II Don Pasquale’s house Ernesto, despairing, prepares to leave town forever. He steps out to pack and Malatesta arrives with Norina in tow, and introduces her to Pasquale as his sister Sofronia, fresh out of the convent. Pasquale, smitten by this innocent and inexperienced girl, wants to get married right away, and Malatesta produces a “notary”. The marriage contract is drawn up; Pasquale announces that his wife will be half-owner of all he possesses. As they are signing, the notary, to everyone’s annoyance, announces that there must be two witnesses, and Malatesta himself is just one.

Don Pasquale is reviewing the records of his new wife’s expenses with dismay. Sofronia enters, dressed for an evening at the theatre. Pasquale remonstrates with her, but she insists; Pasquale tells her if she goes out, she needn’t come back. She just laughs it off and as he tries to bar her way, she ends up slapping him. He threatens her with divorce, and although she feels some sympathy for the old man, she nonetheless departs. On her way out, she “accidentally” drops a note implying that Sofronia has planned to meet a lover in the garden that very night. Pasquale finds the letter and calls for Malatesta.

Don Pasquale is the last, and in many ways the most sophisticated, of Gaetano Donizetti’s great trio of comic operas which includes L’elisir d’amore and La fille du régiment . The music is Donizetti at his best, with bel canto melodies in turn lyrical, bubbly, wry, melting, ironic and rhythmic; the opera contains showstopping arias for soprano and tenor, and one of the funniest and most challenging patter duets ever written.

The Don Pasquale of the title is a wealthy man of advanced years who decides to get married. Why? Is he in love? Not yet, anyway: he’s waiting for his friend Dr Malatesta to find him a bride. To sire a family? Possibly. But mostly to spite his nephew Ernesto whose current girlfriend is, Pasquale feels, entirely unsuitable for a family of this stature. Pasquale boots him from his house to make room for the new bride.

The girl the Malatesta delivers is none other than Norina, Ernesto’s girlfriend. It’s all a trick of course, but no one has informed the shell-shocked Ernesto. He works it out as soon as Norina transforms from the apparently docile convent-schooled maiden into a bossy dragon lady who sets about spending all of Pasquale’s money. Pasquale now has the opposite problem: how to get rid of her. Malatesta once again offers to help. The enduring appeal of Don Pasquale is surely due in large part to the universality of the story (a variant of which appears with regularity on the Internet), but what sets Don Pasquale apart is its undercurrent of regret. Pasquale is vain, foolish and avaricious and deserves what’s coming to him, but Norina treats the elderly man with what approaches cruelty. She rues what she has to do ... but does it anyway. Amidst the comedy, Donizetti, perhaps realizing that we all get old sooner or later, pulls us up short. In this, the swansong of bel canto comic opera, Donizetti produced a layered romantic-comedy that is more than just fun, games and beautiful music.

A world renowned Chinese tenor from Hong Kong, Warren Mok has made frequent guest appearances in many leading opera houses throughout the world. His operatic repertoire exceeds 60 roles including Cavaradossi in Tosca , Calaf in Turandot, Rodolfo in La Bohème, Radamès in Aïda and many others. In recent years, Mok is very active in promoting opera and classical music in Hong Kong, Macao and the Mainland. He is currently the Artistic Director of Opera Hong Kong, Fujian Grand Theatre and Zhuhai Huafa Grand Theatre, and was also the Artistic Director of the Macao International Music Festival.

Mok was awarded the Bronze Bauhinia Star by the Government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region ( HKSAR ) and conferred an Honorary Doctorate by The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts in 2021, Honorary University Fellowship by Hong Kong Baptist University in 2019, Officer of the Order of the Star of Italy by the Government of Italy in 2018, Medal of Honour by the HKSAR Government in 2011, World Outstanding Chinese Award in 2010, and both Cavaliere dell’Ordine della Stella della Solidarietà Italiana ( Knight of the Star of Solidarity of Italy) by the Government of Italy and Chevalier dans I’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres ( Knight of the Order of Art and Letter) by the Government of France in 2008. In 2012, China’s Three Tenors Warren Mok, Dai Yuqiang and Wei Song toured the world to promote Chinese culture. In 2015, Mok was appointed as a member of Beijing Committee of Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, fostering the bridge and development between the two cities. He was also a former member of Zhuhai Committee of Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.

A top graduate from London’s Royal Academy of Music, Nancy Yuen has made Cio-cio-san (Madama Butterfly) her signature role, winning great critical acclaim since her debut with the Welsh National Opera. Yuen has since repeated the role with English National Opera, West Australia Opera, Opera Queensland, Singapore Lyric Opera, New Zealand International Festival of Arts, and at the Royal Albert Hall in 1998, 2000 and 2003. Other operatic roles include Violetta, Gilda, Tosca, Aïda, Liù, Desdemona, Mimì and Soong Chingling. The operas she has directed include: Così fan tutte, The Merry Widow, Prima la Musica, Carmen and The Marriage of Figaro. Yuen has been the Head of Vocal Studies with The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA) since 2010 and Honorary Artistic Director of Singapore Lyric Opera since 2015. Yuen was elected Associate of the Royal Academy of Music in 2014 and was appointed as Professor by the HKAPA in 2018. 阮妙芬 Director 導演 Olsi Qinami 仟奈米 Olsi Qinami is a conductor and pianist based in London. A graduate in Orchestral Conducting from Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, Academy of Arts in Albania and École Normale de Musique de Paris, he is currently the Principal Conductor and Music Director of London City Philharmonic, and Conductor of Hounslow Symphony Orchestra. He mastered his technique with Riccardo Muti at Riccardo Muti Opera Academy and Paavo Järvi at Jarvi Conducting Academy, who praised him having ‘an accomplished technique, a natural rapport with the orchestra and knowing how to express his ideas and communicate effectively.’ He has collaborated with many orchestras including Orchestra of National Opera of Albania, Orchestra of National Opera of North Macedonia, Orchestre Opéra de Massy, Athens Philharmonic, Parnu Festival Orchestra, Kammerphilharmonie Graz and many others.

Soprano Candice Chung studied at Manhattan School of Music and Eastman School of Music. Her recent stage appearances include Pamina in The Magic Flute, the title role in Maria Stuarda in Hong Kong, Countess in The Marriage of Figaro in Italy, and Rosalinda in Die Fledermaus in the United States. She has also appeared on stage as Manon, Marschallin and Susanna. Most recently, she sang the original role of the Swallow in the musical The Happy Prince & The Other Wiseman in December 2018 and its re-run in March 2019. Chung earned her Bachelor of Music degree at Manhattan where she studied with Metropolitan Opera’s Mark Oswald and renowned American soprano Ashley Put-nam. Anna Zhang 張瀞丹 Norina 諾麗娜 (14/8) Soprano Anna Jingdan Zhang is currently pursuing her master’s degree at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts under the tutelage of Professor Nancy Yuen. She has attended masterclasses with world acclaimed singers including Sumi Jo, Barbara Bonney, Nelly Miricioiu, Warren Mok and Darryl Edwards. As one of the winners of RTHK Young Music Makers 2019, she recorded a series of TV productions and radio broadcasts for RTHK. In 2020, she recorded for The Sound of Art which was hosted by the Friends of Hong Kong Museum of Art. Recently she also appeared in RTHK Radio 4’s GBA Concert Hall. She was Nedda in Pagliacci, Ilia in Idomeneo and soprano soloist in Bach’s Mass in B minor with the Hong Kong Bach Choir and Orchestra. B 小調

Operatic bass and conductor Apollo Wong was the winner of Palm Springs Opera Guild Vocal competition and the Pasadena Opera Guild Vocal Scholarship. In 2019, he won first place at the Hong Kong Choral Conducting Competition and Asia Pacific Youth Choir Award. Wong has sung major roles in operas including Figaro (Le Nozze di Figaro), Frére Laurent (Roméo et Juliette), Sarastro (Die Zauberflöte), Colline (La Bohème) and world premiere operas and musicals including Heart of Coral, Datong, Ghost Love, WILD and Alice in Wonderland, among others. He was the soloist in Hong Kong City Contemporary Dance Company’s production of Schubert’s Winterreise . He is currently Chorus Master of Hong Kong Philharmonic Chorus and Music Director of The Learners Chorus and Orchestra.

Albert Lim is one of the most active baritones in Hong Kong. Lim is trained at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, from which he received the Advanced Diploma and Bachelor of Music degree. Lim was admitted to the Royal College of Music in London, graduated with distinction from the Postgraduate Diploma programme in vocal studies.

With his remarkable stage presence and fine lyrical singing, Lim has appeared frequently in opera and concert performances presented by Opera Hong Kong, Musica Viva, Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, Hong Kong Ballet, The Chinese University of Hong Kong Chorus, the Learners’ Chorus, the Hong Kong Bach Choir, and the Hong Kong Oratorio Society. A highly versatile singer, Lim is equally at home in the pop music scene and shared the stage with pop singers Hacken Lee and Jeff Zhang. Lim is currently faculty member of The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He is also the choral conductor of the Hong Kong Children Choir.

Baritone Alexander Chen has performed with numerous opera companies in Hong Kong and the United States. His roles include Schaunard in La Bohème, Figaro and Dr. Bartolo in The Marriage of Figaro. Apart from operatic performances, Chen appeared in Vaughan William’s A Sea Symphony with Ponte Singers as the baritone soloist. He has recently appeared as bass soloist in Bach’s Cantata BWV 39 and BWV 99 in the “Bach Pilgrimage Series: Cantatas for Trinitytide” presented by Die Konzertisten. As a recipient of various scholarships, Chen completed his Bachelor of Music in Voice at the Manhattan School of Music in New York, under the tutelage of baritone Maitland Peters. After receiving his Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Hong Kong, Patrick Chan started pursuing the B.A.(Hons) Degree in Music at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) in 1995. He majored in vocal performance under the supervision of Jimmy Chan and graduated in 1998. In 2000, he graduated with a Master’s Degree in Music Education from HKBU. Patrick Chan has performed as bass soloist in various choral works, including Handel’s Judas Maccabaeus, Faure’s Requiem. Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, Mass in B minor and St. John’s Passion. He also performed in various productions of Opera Hong Kong. He was Yakuside in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly and Maestro Spinelloccio in Gianni Schicchi

Henry Ngan graduated from The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, and obtained his Master of Music degree at Royal Northern College of Music and Master of Arts degree in Wales International Academy of Voice, studied with Dennis O’Neill CBE. He is the recipient of Muses Foundation for Culture & Education, RNCM Scholarship, Sir Robert Black Trust Fund, Hong Kong Welsh Male Voice Choir Scholarship, Hong Kong Children’s Choir Scholarship and Michael Rippon Memorial Scholarship. A Dunraven Welsh Young Singer of the Year, Overall Champion in Hong Kong Youth Singing Festival, Ngan frequently won in Hong Kong Schools Music Festival. Performing across the UK, Europe, Russia and Hong Kong, his operatic roles included Don José and Remendado in Carmen, Tamino and Monostatos in Die Zauberflöte, Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi, Goro in Madama Butterfly, Spoletta in Tosca and many more.

Chinese lyric tenor Jiang Kuncheng received his Bachelor of Music from Shanghai Conservatory of Music, and Master of Music from The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA) under the tutelage of renowned soprano Professor Nancy Yuen and award-winning répétiteur Hsu Wei-En. His former teachers include Professor Wu Bo and Professor Wang Kewei. He has sung in masterclasses given by Warren Mok, Shi Yijie, Peter Schmelzer and Leonardo Catalanotto. Recently he has appeared as Canio in Pagliacci at the HKAPA, and today's performance marks his debut with Opera Hong Kong.

抒情男高音蔣坤成於上海音樂學院完成音樂學士學位,並在香港演藝學院獲得碩 士研究生學位。師從著名女高音兼香港演藝學院聲樂系主任阮妙芬教授及屢獲殊 榮的藝術指導徐惟恩教授。他亦曾師從吳波教授、王凱蔚教授,並參與莫華倫、 石倚潔、施梅爾策 , 卡塔拉諾多等大師班演唱。近期演出包括香港演藝學院《丑 角》的卡尼奧,而今天的演出則標誌著他與香港歌劇院的首度合作。

陳國堅繼完成香港大學理科學士課程後,於 1995 年開始修讀香港浸會大學音樂學 士課程,師從陳晃尚老師主修聲樂,並於 1998 年畢業。隨後,於 2000 年完成其音 樂碩士課程。 陳氏曾於不同的合唱作品中擔任男低音獨唱,當中包括:韓德爾神 劇《猶大‧瑪加伯》、佛瑞《安魂曲》、巴赫《聖誕神曲》、《 B 小調彌撒曲》 及《聖約翰受難曲》等。陳氏亦曾參與多套香港歌劇院的製作,飾演角色包括浦 契尼《蝴蝶夫人》的雅庫桑及《賈尼 ‧ 斯基基》的斯皮內洛茲奧。

Nina Yip received her Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in piano performance from Indiana University School of Music. She has been rehearsal pianist and coach for over 150 opera, operetta, and musical productions with companies such as Indiana University Opera Theater, Light Opera Works (Chicago), Lyric Opera of Chicago, Pamiro Opera (Wisconsin), Opera Pacific (California), Los Angeles Opera, Musica Viva (Hong Kong) and Opera Hong Kong; and music festivals including the Hong Kong Arts Festival, Beijing Music Festival and Opera Festival di Roma (Italy). She also worked as voice coach for students at Depaul University of Chicago, The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and University of California Los Angeles. She has been the Principal Répétiteur of Opera Hong Kong since 2004. 2004 年起擔任香港歌劇院首席練唱指 Alex Tam 譚天樂 Born in Hong Kong, opera singer, choral conductor and composer, Alex Tam graduated from the Royal Academy of Music in London, and The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. Tam has recently received the “Outstanding Musician Awards” from the Hong Kong Music and Dance Association; also the ARAM award from the Royal Academy of Music for his significant contribution to the music profession. Tam is currently Chorus Director of Opera Hong Kong, founder of Aria Academy of Music, voice teacher and Choir Conductor of the HKAPA, also radio presenter on RTHK Radio 4. Tam has taken leading roles in productions worldwide and performed over 30 operatic roles, including Rinuccio in Puccini’s Gianni Schcchi at the age of 19. This success was followed by his performance of other lead characters such as, Almaviva in The Barber of Seville, Ferrando in Così fan tutte, Nemorino in L’elisir d’amore, Tonio in La fille du régiment and many others.

許致雨自 2010 年起加入香港管弦樂團,現任香港管弦樂團的樂團第二副首席。 2018 四重奏演出獲得圓滿成功。許氏曾獲艾森巴赫委任為席勒斯威格海四重奏合作八重奏演出獲得廣泛好評,並於上海樂隊學院開展大師班課程以及年曾代表港樂四重奏於北京國際音樂節與奧登薩默合作五重奏演出以及與上 ・ 管弦樂團的樂團副首席,與鋼琴家郎朗一起在北美進行為期一個月的霍爾斯坦節慶 23 任重奏及室內樂課程客席教授。少數的小提琴教員之一。現於香港浸會大學擔任客席教授,並於香港科技大學擔出。許氏也是一位富熱誠的音樂教育家,最初在讀書時期被任命為印第安納大學場巡迴演香港歌劇院樂團由本地近六十位優秀樂手組成,他們經驗豐富,本身多是獨奏家,堪稱樂壇精英。宏觀世界各地主要歌劇院皆有專屬樂隊,而歌劇藝術近年在本港有長足的發展,實需要有專門的歌劇院樂團來配合。香港歌劇院樂團的成立標誌本地歌劇發展一個里程碑,推動歌劇藝術更上一層樓。

Currently the Second Associate Concertmaster of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, Anders Hui has first joined the orchestra since 2010. In 2018, he toured with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Quartet to Shanghai and Beijing, highlighting a highly acclaimed performance in the Beijing Music Festival collaborating with Andreas Ottensamer and the Shanghai Quartet, as well as giving Masterclasses in the Shanghai Orchestra Academy. He was invited by Christoph Eschenbach to be the Assistant Concertmaster for the Schleswig Holstein Music Festival Orchestra, performing with soloist Lang Lang in a month-long 23-concert tour across North America. Hui is currently an adjunct faculty member at Hong Kong Baptist University and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

The Opera Hong Kong Orchestra is composed of nearly 60 outstanding experienced musicians, most of whom are soloists. All world’s major opera houses have their own orchestras. In view of the significant increase of opera audience and the various programmes developed by Opera Hong Kong in recent years, the company decided to establish its own orchestra to further that growth. The Opera Hong Kong Chorus was established in 2004. The Chorus was directed and developed by Mr. Jimmy Chan who established it as one of the leading choirs in Hong Kong. Mr. Chan retired from the position of Chorus Director in 2013 and was succeeded by Mr. Alex Tam who is well known locally for his operatic performing skills as well as being an accomplished choirmaster. The Chorus has attained new heights of artistic excellence. Unlike their full-time counterparts in professional choruses in other major world cities, members of the Opera Hong Kong Chorus are all part-time singers from all walks of life. Whilst there are currently more than 60 active members, the Chorus’s size and composition varies according to requirement of each production. This pool of gifted singers includes current music students, highly qualified graduates, music teachers and experienced performers, all of whom have been selected by competitive public auditions. Since making its debut in December 2004 in La Traviata, the Chorus has participated in over 15 fully staged operas including the Opera Hong Kong productions of The Magic Flute in The National Centre for the Performing Arts of China in 2009 and the world premiere of Dr. Sun Yat-Sen in Hong Kong in 2011. In addition to major productions, the Chorus gives public recitals of works such as Verdi’s Requiem and Operatic Excerpts, including choral and solo performances, with the aim of promoting opera and highquality choral music in Hong Kong.
