Our programs delight students with live opera, reveal the behind-thescenes magic of production work, and give students a glimpse of the many career opportunities in the arts.

Full of sentimental pirates, blundering policemen, absurd adventures, and improbable paradoxes, we bring you Gilbert and Sullivan’s hilarious farce!

The story follows the misadventures of young Frederic, an orphan apprenticed to a raucous band of pirates until his twenty-first birthday. After leaving the pirates’ way of life, Frederic falls for the beautiful Mabel, whose father is Major General Stanley. But, when Frederic’s former boss, the Pirate King discovers the Major General’s secret plot, complications abound. Set sail with this classic comedy that boasts some of the most memorable tunes in operetta.

Step inside where stories come to life. There you will meet the Finley brothers, the owners of the bookstore. They know just how magical a book can be and share that knowledge with anyone who may drop in. Each character pulls you into the pages of some of the most beloved tales and tunes from opera, musical theatre, and more. Running at approximately 30-minutes in length, this program is perfectly suited for students as they take their first venture into the world of opera.

The jaded jester Rigoletto serves the Duke of Mantua and his raucous court. Little does Rigoletto know the flirtatious duke has wooed his trusting daughter, Gilda. How far will Rigoletto go to protect his only child? (The abridged Student Matinee performance is approximately 120 minutes and features content appropriate for student audiences.)

Remember the excitement of seeing your first performance in a grand theatre? The student matinee is a special, once-a-year performance that invites students to experience opera at the spectacular Ellie Caulkins Opera House! This year’s matinee features Verdi’s Italian masterpiece, Rigoletto—a perfect introduction to opera, presenting unforgettable music including the effervescent “La donna è mobile.”

It’s a field trip unlike any other and a wonderful way to introduce your students to career options in the arts.
