e are thrilled to present two icons in the music industry: Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr. These two individuals have blazed a path for many to follow.
Marilyn and Billy have earned 7 Grammy awards, 15 gold and 3 platinum albums, were the first African American married couple to have their own network television variety show, are accomplished authors and with all this success have been married over 50 years. Their path to stardom began as the lead singers of the legendary group The 5th Dimension where they boasted numerous hits including: “Up, Up and Away,” “Aquarius/ Let the Sunshine In,” “Worst That Could Happen,” “Stoned Soul Picnic” and numerous others. After leaving The 5th Dimension, they recorded the No. 1 hit, “You Don’t Have to be a Star (to Be in My Show).” Marilyn and Billy released their first studio album in three decades, Blackbird: Lennon-McCartney Icons this past April. Once again, this couple is in the limelight not
only for their singing but how their music is raising awareness for civil rights and social justice. It is fitting that their latest tour Up, Up and Away! The Concert is not only named from one of their greatest hits but describes Marilyn and Billy’s careers and lives. They have been rising since they hit the music scene in the 1960s. We are glad you are joining us for what I know will be a memorable evening.
