hank you for joining us for the Edwin McCain Trio. Edwin is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist. His songs “I’ll Be” and “I Could Not Ask for More” were radio top-40 hits and are credited as two of the greatest love songs of all time. Edwin and his acoustic trio are known for their warm and inviting shows filled with humorous anecdotes that make the evening feel like a night with old friends. Their songs’ emotional lyrics tap into universal feelings. I hope you enjoy.

On May 8, we host young jazz piano prodigy Matthew Whitaker. Blind since birth, Matthew’s talent on the piano is extraordinary. At the age of 20, he has already become one of the hottest names in the jazz world.

He is currently enrolled in the BA Jazz Studies program at Juilliard in New York City.

Matthew has extensively toured the United States and abroad, performing on world-renowned stages. At age 10, he opened for Stevie Wonder’s induction into the Apollo Theater Hall of Fame. Most recently, Matthew’s unique story was featured on CBS’ 60 Minutes.

After Matthew Whitaker, three shows remain this season: Old Salt Union, Veronica Swift and An Evening with Billy Dean. As we wrap up this season, we start to look towards next season. Mark your calendars for July 8 when we will announce the 2021-22 Season lineup, and keep an eye out for some special sneak peeks about what is to come.

Edwin’s enduring love songs and wedding must-haves “I’ll Be” and “I Could Not Ask For More” are for more than just the romantic at heart. Every year, American Idol and The Voice contestants turn to Edwin’s ballads to help win over judges and fans alike. Even Justin Bieber has been known to belt out “I’ll Be” during his concerts.

McCain suddenly found himself with a whole new crop of fans when his Flipping Ships television show debuted on Animal Planet.

Flipping Ships took him from the chart tops to the boat shop—his very own Boats Have Souls, a restoration outfit dedicated to bringing life back to vessels and customizing them to perfectly fit their new owners. “We started the business to put good boats into good families’ hands by restoring them in ways that might otherwise be financially out of reach,” Edwin explains. Viewers were fascinated by the blood, sweat and the occasional tear that he poured into his renovations while rehabbed boats found new life and new owners, including a few non-profit organizations in his home state of South Carolina. Just like his songs, Edwin’s boats all have a story to tell about the people who built them, Edwin’s team who defies all odds to reconstruct them, and the families who take them home.

2018 marked the 20th year of the success of “I’ll Be,” which topped the Billboard charts in 1998 and has proven to be a timeless classic over the past two decades.

“The 15-year-old me would have crawled through a river of fire to be the 51-year-old singer/songwriter that I am today, and I remember that,” McCain said. “I am incredibly grateful to be able to do this.”
