Results from NSF AuthenTechnologies’ annual review of 1,200 botanical samples authenticated using next-generation DNA sequencing will be presented. This is the most comprehensive and unbiased assessment of botanical authenticity to date. Unexpected trends in adulteration by toxic weeds and fillers will be revealed. The study demonstrates the rapidly changing nature of adulteration and questions our generally held concepts of “common adulterants.” It is critical information for all suppliers, manufacturers and labs using or testing botanicals.
