BOSTON WHALER 325 CONQUEST The idea of being a ‘jack of all trades’ has gotten somewhat of a negative connotation over the years. The idea that we need to be specialized in an area, and only that area, is a recent development in society. The auto industry is a prime example of this. Niche markets are becoming more and more specialized. Want an electric car that can haul five people? No problem. Want a luxury SUV that has 600-horsepower and all-wheel drive? You got it.
But what about the cars that can do a little bit of everything? An Audi A4 can get you and yours from point A to point B in style and comfort during most any weather conditions in a reasonably hasty manner. Likewise a Toyota 4Runner can get you to and from Home Depot without much fanfare, and still drive you and a date to dinner without any questionable looks from your significant other. This idea translates to the boating world as well. Boston Whaler has been making quality boats for years upon years. And while they area very respected builder, it seems that sometimes they can get overlooked because the boats they make aren’t good at just one thing, they’re good at just about everything, and the 325 Conquest is a great example of just that. This 32’3” boat has a beam of 10’8”, a draft of 26” and a dry weight of 10,500 pounds and can hold up to 14 passengers or 4,300 pounds. The 325 Conquest is ready for whatever you might throw at it in a day. She’s ready to fish with a sizable livewell, a fishbox hatch that is easy to use, while the huge space in the cockpit for at least two people to fish freely without any concern for snagging the other’s ear by accident while casting. Inside the aforementioned cockpit are two insulated 40-gallon fishboxes that sit under the deck, while rod holders are abound on both sides as well as near the transom. The toe rails might go unnoticed at first, but you’ll be very happy to have them when that first big fish hits the line. The hardtop above does more than just protect against UV rays, thanks to outriggers, an open-array radar and even a spotlight.

The transom lounge and port seat fold down when more seating room is necessary, providing a comfortable cushion and back rest. There is a stainless four step reboarding ladder that makes returning to the ship from any water sports much less of a challenge. The port seats can be set to face forward or rearward depending on where the party is at, while the multi-use folding table can be a dinner table, or unfold it into a leg rest, or both if a nap is desired after a meal. The console is home to a built-in padded tray as well as dual stainless cup holders and a few USB ports and electrical outlets for various devices. The requisite compass stands in clear view. The helm itself uses a Raymarine MFD for navigation, while engine supervision is left to the Mercury display and accessory toggle switches that are ver easy to use. Radio controls sit overhead and keep tunes humming all cruise long. Standard power comes from two 300-horsepower Mercury Verado V8 DTS Black engines, while peak power output available are two 400-horsepower Mercury Verado L6 DTS Black or white engines that come with Joystick Piloting. Splitting the difference using dual 350-horsepower Mercury Verado engines, the 325 Conquest takes 5.2 seconds to plane and runs from 0-30 mph in 12.1 seconds, with a top speed just shy of 50 mph. All in all, the 2020 Boston Whaler 325 Conquest isn’t going to blow your mind doing just one thing. But it’s combination of excellent fishing accessories and posh materials and relaxing spaces make it the perfect boat to do just about anything with. This is one jack of all trades that doesn’t need to be a specialist, because while it can do everything, all of it feels pretty special.
