This could be physically harming you, putting you in fear of being harmed, name calling, blaming, putting you down, making you feel guilty, controlling your money, controlling what you do, what you wear or who you speak to. If you think this may be happening to you or someone you know you can contact Salford Survivor for confidential advice. Salford Survivor Project is a volunteer run domestic abuse and family abuse service offering help and support to anyone over 16 who has been affected by abuse. We work with survivors to empower them to make
positive changes to their lives to help them move forward and understand about healthy relationships. We have drop ins on four mornings a week where we offer advice and guidance to anyone who needs help as well as three support groups. Our Drop-ins are in Eccles, Pendleton, Little Hulton and Irlam. St Ann’s Hospice’s annual
MANCHESTER MIDNIGHT WALK ...will you BEE there? Hospice Chief Executive Eamonn O’Neal with actress Sally Lindsay at last year’s Manchester Midnight Walk
The streets of Manchester will be a hive of activity this April as thousands of local people – and bees – take on a 10km moonlit challenge in support of a local charity. St Ann’s Hospice’s flagship fundraising event, the sponsored Manchester Midnight Walk, is back for its thirteenth year, and will take place on Friday 26th April. The event starts and finishes at the beautiful Manchester Cathedral, and this year walk organisers are encouraging as many people as possible to embrace its bee theme. Eamonn O’Neal, Chief Executive of St Ann’s explained: “The Manchester Midnight Walk has pulled in crowds every year since it began and it has a real party atmosphere. Every year, many participants come along in fancy dress, and we’re encouraging that again this year too, by inviting people to come along as bees.

The Midnight Walk is famous for its yellow and black colour theme, so it seems fitting to have as many bees as possible buzzing around the city centre to raise money for our patients, and celebrate St Ann’s as a Greater Manchester charity. Don’t worry if fancy dress isn’t your thing, please do still come along and join us – we’d love to see as many people there as possible.” The walk starts at midnight, and participants will take on a 10km loop which starts and ends at Manchester Cathedral. Warm up entertainment starts at 9pm, with music, disco and refreshments available before the walk begins. A special early bird rate is available for keen walkers who book their place early.

RSPCA Manchester & Salford
Celebrating 55 Years! been transferred to specialist centres, networked out amongst other branches or sadly been too unwell to find new homes). Not many people know that each branch of the RSPCA is a separately registered charity and is responsible for raising money to fund their animal rehoming work. The RSPCA Manchester & Salford branch is celebrating 55 years as a registered charity. The branch originally established the RSPCA animal hospital in Weaste, but when funds ran out in the early 1990s it was taken on by the national RSPCA. It took some years for the branch to get back on its feet, as finances remained poor, but for the past 11 years the branch has been able to focus on supporting the national RSPCA inspectorate by taking in the animals they have rescued from neglect, cruelty and abandonment.
In December the branch hosted a big birthday bash for its staff, volunteers and supporters to mark the occasion and give thanks to their dedication and commitment to the charity. The branch hopes that it will be able to help many more animals in need and would like to thank the community for its continued support. Happy Plotting New Year from the Cancer Support Gardening Group Now that all the festivities are behind us and the nights are getting shorter, we are ready for a fresh start on the land.
A few hints and tips... Time to plan: Have a look at your plot, or garden and think about what you would like to grow, for cropping or, just to look at. The time to plan your plot and buy your seeds is now to be ready for action!
A few winter jobs: We set some Sweet Pea seeds in dry compost, just before Christmas and they are coming up nicely. You may want to put some in yourself. Keep them cool and frost free but do not water until they are established as seedlings. You can get them in the ground as soon as the weather warms up and we are ‘frost free’. A bit of a head start on later ‘direct’ planting.
Feed our friends: If there is a hedgehog near where you live, can you leave a little cat food out for it? They don’t eat much, they prefer your slugs and snails and don’t forget, they don’t like milk!!
Around the City... Tindall Street: The chairman has decided to clear an overgrown area and make a community meeting/ conversation area with a gazebo adjacent to the community room, to encourage integration and sociability. He has also decided to turn the overgrown stumperry into a small community orchard. We have divided our various types of mint and will grow them on in the polytunnel, for planting out in spring. We found several plastic containers in the car park so we have cut them into sections and will plant them up for anyone who wants them. They will also make little cloches for seedlings when turned upside down.
Addison Road: Several new plots have been created If you didn’t wash your plant pots before Christmas, why not get them in good order now? Bring vulnerable plants in. We moved our lemon tree inside onto a sunny, but cool, window sill. It’s still giving us plenty of tiny lemons which we ripen by another sunny, but warmer window. It’s nearly time to get your chilli and pepper seeds planted. They can be started off from seed sown indoors from late winter until the middle of spring.
