Long before the white settlers and visitors came to this beautiful valley, Native American Yampatika Utes spent the warm months here. Although the Native Americans left their mark, they did not name the area. A French trapper in the early 1800’s heard a noisy hot springs that reminded him of a steamboat. When the railroad was built in 1908, the rock formations around the famous springs were changed and the chugging sound was lost, but the name has stayed forever.

Bears You are in Bear Country! Please do not keep trash around your site. Please take trash to bear-proof Dumpsters DAILY.
