As the summer heats up here in Sunny Arizona, most of our residents head East to enjoy some cooler weather.

We don’t blame them since you can fry on egg on our concrete during the summer months!

Since most of our residents are away, our activity office officially closes from April 1st through October 14th. We pick right back up in October with our normal activities. Our main 8 month season is packed full of daily activities to keep you busy with fun and friends. Look on the next few pages of this newsletter for more information on the activities we offer.

For those residents who do choose to stay here and enjoy our “dry heat” summer months, we do have many things to keep you busy. You can stop in the cool lobby to enjoy some nice conversation with friends over a free cup of coffee or iced tea in the morning or after lunch. You also could grab a book from our library,

search the web in our computer room, cool off in our indoor swimming pool, work out in our indoor exercise room, or grab some friends for a cookout under one of our many patio armadas and free gas BBQ’s.

Homes For Sale Are you interested in purchasing a home here at Desert Shadows RV Resort? We have many for sale that can meet your needs.

All our homes are park model homes, so they typically come with 1 bedroom, 1 bath, a kitchen and living room.

Some have added on additional rooms as well for more space.

Get Active During the season, we offer many activities to keep you active and fit. Here is some of what we offer.

E-Z Exercise: Take advantage of strength exercise and range movement. Move through a variety of exercises designed to increase strength, range of movement, and skills required during activities for daily living. Hand held weights, elastic tubing with handles and a ball can be used for resistance and a chair is used for seated and standing support,. This class is held M-F mornings.

Water Aerobics: This class is designed for the general population where all are welcome. The class participant will experience a great cardio workout while providing low-impact, muscular resistance and a wide range of exercises. Held M-F mornings in the pool.

Swimming: Our large indoor pool is open to swim in year around. We also have a large Jacuzzi and men and women bathrooms with shower areas.

Yoga: Move your entire body through a complete series of seated and standing yoga poses. Chair support is offered to safely perform a variety of postures designed to increase flexibility, balance, and range of movement. Breathing exercises and relaxation will promote stress reduction. This class is held weekly.

Shuffleboard: This is a outdoor game in which players

use sticks to push pucks, sending them gliding down a narrow and elongated court, with the purpose of having them come to rest within a marked scoring area..

Line Dancing: Have you ever wanted to learn how to line dance? Well now is your chance. Come on by Monday and Thursday mornings to learn some new dance moves and to meet others in the resort. We have a great time dancing together.

Bocce Ball: This ancient game, whose modern adaptation most closely resembles lawn bowling, requires skill, strategy and just a little luck. Bocce ball is a great game to play outside on a beautiful sunny Arizona day with your friends.

Golf: We have many Ladies and Guys golf tournaments through out the season. You can join up with others from the park to compete for top prizes. We also have a weekly golf outing for men and women.

Exercise Room: We have an exercise room available for your use year around with strength machines and cardio stationary bicycles.

Table Tennis: Get moving with a friendly game of table tennis. Improve your speed and agility with this sport. Tables set up Tues-Sat. mornings.

Cards \ Games Bridge: A game where four players working as partners. It is played with a standard deck of 52 cards and the cards are ranked normally, with aces high and deuces low. See schedule on the back for times.

Pinochle: Played with 48 cards rather than the standard 52. You have eight 9s, 10s, Jacks, Queens, Kings, and Aces--two for each suit. The order of the cards is the same except a 10 is the second highest card right after the Ace. See Schedule.

Hand and Foot: If you like to play longer games of cards, than this game is for you. Grab a partner and several decks of cards. The object of this game is to be the first person to discard all your cards.

Poker: Can be played by 2 to 10 players. There are many variations in this game. Men play Tuesday and Fridays and the women play on Wednesdays.

Cribbage: Two players use a standard 52-card pack, with the cards ranking king high to ace low.

500: Teams simply bid their hands in hopes of taking at least that number of tricks for a given round. This is a fairly fast and relatively easy game once all players get used to bidding, playing and scoring.

AZ Rummy: This classic, two to four player card game provides an exciting mixture of luck and strategy.

Crafts, Activities and Games Jewelry Wrapping: Want to learn how to make your own beautiful jewelry? Well then this class is for you.

You will learn how to wire wrap your own jewelry using stones, coins, jewels, etc.

Sand Art: Learn to make beautiful pictures using sand.

Class offered Monday afternoons.

Quilters: Get together with a group of great people and work on your quilting projects. We have a quilting show/ competition at the end of the season each year.

Crafting: Once a week we offer a craft class where you will learn/work on a different craft. Fun for everyone!

American Mah Jongg: Cross dominoes with bridge and you have mah jongg. It is a tile game traditionally played by 4 players that was invented around 500 B.C. Darts: Once a week we offer dart tournaments and classes in our back Auditorium. We play baseball style darts on large oversized dart boards and wooden darts!

Bunco: a dice game, the object of which is to tally the most victories, or buncos, during four sets of play. Traditionally, the game is designed for 12 players. Great way to meet new friends.

Other Amenities Live Bands: Our Resort brings in live bands on every Saturday night to entertain you.

Come listen to the wonderful music or even dance! Some bands require advance tickets, so check with the activities office.

Computer Room: We have computers available with internet for the communities use. We also offer computer classes to help you become more familiar with different aspect of programs, computers, and to help you trouble shoot. Classes are casual and for people of all levels.

Library: We have a great library full of books, movies, and puzzles you can check out. We also always have a big selection of puzzles going on the tables that you can come work on throughout the day.

Potlucks: We have many potlucks throughout the season to get the community together. We also do dinner/lunches for most major holidays. Check the Calendar for special events!

Theater Group: Have you ever wanted to be an actor?

We have your answer. Come join our theater group and put on a play for community. We also have talent shows where you can show off your talents.

Billiards: We have a billiards room with more than 6 tables available. We also offer tournaments in billiards.

Pancake Breakfast: Every Saturday morning we have either donuts or a pancake breakfast in the lobby with pancakes, eggs, sausage, etc. It is a fun morning to socialize with others.

Bingo: We have offer Bingo every Thursday evening during the season. Come out and have a great time with friends and maybe even take home some extra cash!!!

Swimming: Don’t forget about our heated indoor pool and Jacuzzi! We also have lounges for sunbathing.
