After seven days of Sukkot, the tradition gives us one more holiday: Shemini Atzeret, literally the “Eighth Day of Gathering.” The sukkah is coming down, the lulav and etrog are done, and the long stretch of fall holidays is almost over. And still, Shemini Atzeret gives us one more day before we leave the season behind. The extra time can help us figure out what we want to take with us. In some communities, Shmini Atzeret and Simchat Torah are celebrate together on the last day of Sukkot.
