A Career of Dedication: Dorothy Botelho Retires After

46 Years of Service

After more than four decades of dedicated service, Dorothy Botelho has retired from the One SouthCoast Chamber, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of commitment, institutional knowledge, and quiet leadership.

Dorothy’s story with the Chamber began in the late 1970s when she joined the organization as a high school intern at the former New Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce. What began as a part-time opportunity quickly turned into a lifelong career in which she would play a vital role in the organization’s growth and evolution. Over the next 46 years, Dorothy rose through the ranks, ultimately serving as Vice President of Finance and Operations for the organization now known as the One SouthCoast Chamber.

During her long tenure, Dorothy became one of the institution’s most trusted and respected leaders. Known for her professionalism and attention to detail, she was responsible for overseeing the Chamber’s financial management, operational systems, and administrative functions. Her steady guidance helped ensure the organization remained financially sound and operationally efficient while supporting the needs of thousands of businesses across the SouthCoast region.

Dorothy also witnessed—and helped guide—one of the most

significant transitions in the Chamber’s history. The New Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce eventually merged with the Fall River Area Chamber of Commerce to form the One SouthCoast Chamber, creating a unified voice for businesses across New Bedford, Fall River, and surrounding communities. Throughout that transformation, Dorothy’s institutional knowledge and steady leadership were invaluable in maintaining continuity and stability.

Colleagues often describe Dorothy as the backbone of the organization. While much of her work took place behind the scenes, it was essential to the Chamber’s success. She managed budgets, supported leadership teams, and helped coordinate the operational framework that allowed the Chamber’s programs, events, and advocacy efforts to thrive.

Beyond her operational role, Dorothy was also committed to professional development within the chamber industry. She earned the IOM designa-

tion from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Institute for Organization Management, a national program that recognizes professionals who complete extensive training in nonprofit and association leadership.

For nearly half a century, Dorothy served generations of Chamber leadership, board members, and business owners throughout the SouthCoast. Her longevity is a testament not only to her dedication but also to the deep relationships she built within the regional business community.

As she steps into retirement, Dorothy leaves behind an enduring legacy. From a high school intern to a senior executive, her 46-year career reflects a rare level of loyalty and commitment to the mission of supporting local businesses and strengthening the SouthCoast economy.

Dorothy, you will be missed!

Though her daily presence at the Chamber will be missed, her impact on the organization—and the region it serves—will continue to be felt for many years to come.

Sincerely,

Ņ
