Academic admission requirements –Undergraduate
Each undergraduate degree at Deakin has its own minimum academic admission requirements, such as your high school results. The specific entry requirements for your country and your Deakin degree are listed at deakin.edu.au/int-entry. Be sure to check this information carefully and speak with Deakin or your agent if you have any questions.
Pathways
If you do not meet the academic admission requirements for a Deakin degree, there may still be a pathway available for you to study at our university. See page 32–33 of this guide to learn more about alternative pathways to Deakin.
Supporting information
Some degrees at Deakin may require additional documentation prior to admission, such as a portfolio of work, a current police check from your country, your resume or a personal statement.
A personal statement gives you the chance to show us who you are. This can include your qualifications and background, and why you want to attend Deakin.
Visas
International students who want to study in Australia require a visa. This could be a student visa. It is important that you know the type of visa you are granted so that you can meet the requirements of that visa.

English language requirements
To enrol in a Deakin degree, you will need to be able to read, speak, write and listen in English at a certain level. Students must provide evidence of at least one of the following:
• Obtaining the required scores on a recognised English language test, such as IELTS or TOEFL.
• Completed university (tertiary) or high school (secondary) studies delivered and assessed in English at the awarding institution, with evidence confirming English as the medium of instruction.
• Lived and worked in an English-speaking country for at least five years.

Masters by coursework
Deakin masters by coursework programs are typically 18 months to two years full time, or up to four years part time. Many degrees allow you to choose a ‘specialisation’ – the area of study from which you choose the majority of your units. Studies are completed mainly through coursework, with a thesis or major project completed in the last part of the degree.
Admission requirements
Applicants are required to have completed at least a bachelor degree, or comparable, of an acceptable standard from an approved university or other educational institution. Some degrees may have additional entry requirements, which you can find on the Deakin website.
Masters degrees by coursework that include a research stream may provide a possible pathway to PhD candidature.
Graduate certificates and graduate diplomas
Graduate certificates are usually one trimester in duration and are designed to add practical and vocational skills to your undergraduate degree, diploma or previous work experience. Graduate diplomas are usually two trimesters in duration. They are designed to build on the understanding and skills developed during a graduate certificate, or from work experience.
Admission requirements
Applicants seeking entry into a graduate certificate or graduate diploma program must have successfully completed:
• an approved undergraduate degree, or comparable, from an approved university or other educational institution; or
• comparable qualifications gained by examination or relevant professional or industry experience.

Lam’s pathway to Deakin
At 16, Lam from Vietnam knew he wanted to study artificial intelligence but was not quite ready for degree-level study. He chose Deakin College to build skills and independence. Deakin College offers alternative pathways to university, with smaller classes helping students thrive. Their Foundation program, similar to Australian Year 12, was the perfect pathway for Lam to adapt to new study environments as well as experience the culture.
As an under-18 international student, Lam had a guardian who helped him confidently settle in. ‘They are very welcoming and supportive when it comes to guiding new students in the program. They were willing to assist with any difficulties I encountered,’ Lam said of his teachers.

Apply in four simple steps

Check entry requirements
Every Deakin degree has its own academic and English language entry requirements. If you currently do not meet these requirements, you can still apply to Deakin. Connect with an authorised agent
Depending on your country, you may need to apply through a Deakinauthorised agent. Use the agent finder tool on our website to find one in your country. If no agent is available, contact one of the international offices listed on our website.

Gather your documents
You will need certified copies of your academic transcripts, ID document and proof of English proficiency. Get these documents certified by an authorised agent, public notary, Australian lawyer or police officer. Ask your agent or check our website for complete instructions on certifying your documents.
