The South hub re-started in Saltash last year. Groundwork South has been developing and improving the area of land at the Saltmill skatepark & BMX track in Saltash. Since then Groundworks has moved down to Callington and has set up a project to provide employment support for people up to 24 year of age.

Christopher Barber heads the Groundwork project in Saltash and Callington. He has extensive experience in teaching and youth work. He used to be a teacher at Plymouth University and before that at Cornwall College as an SEN (Special Education Needs) officer. When the role of youth worker came up in Groundwork for Cornwall he jumped at the opportunity.
“I love teaching because it gives me the ability to inspire others. I like to help young people especially learn to achieve things for themselves. The role at Groundwork gives me that opportunity and I am really grateful and have enjoyed developing the land we have worked on so far.”
Apart from travelling, Christopher Barber has lived in Plymouth and Cornwall all of his life. He passionately believes that travelling is so important in opening your mind to different worlds and types of people and encourages everyone to go travelling if they can, especially young people.
“We are making a positive impact in local people’s lives. Giving people the opportunity and tools to make changes in their own environment is a really powerful thing and that is what these projects aim to do.”
There is a drop in service on Wednesdays 1-6pm at the Callington scout hut. This is your opportunity to have a say in what local land areas you feel needs improvement and to get involved in the Callington youth employment initiative.
