ADMISSIONS AND ENROLLMENT

APPLICATION

The Academy is open to students in grades 8th-12th. Younger students are considered on a case by case basis.

Go to traditionsgolfacademy.com and follow the instructions to submit an application.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS Prospective international students will need to obtain an F-1 Student Visa in order to attend The O'Neal School. We will issue and send a signed Form I-20 directly to each student or parent/legal guardian once the following requirements are completed: enrolling as a full-time student at The O’Neal School, providing a copy of your passport, completing required deposit, and providing financial verification that you have sufficient funds to support your stay in the United States.

INTERVIEW PROCESS Interviews are required and will be held via Skype or in person.

Applicants will be notified of the interview once the application is received and completed. An application is considered complete once the application fee is paid and all application requirements are received.

ADMISSIONS DECISION Once the candidate has completed the interview process the admissions committee will meet to review the application and interview. Admission decisions (accept, waitlist, deny) will be made by the committee and applicants will be notified of the decision by the Director of Admissions. The Traditions Golf Academy application opens on September 1st. April 1st is the deadline for residential student applications, and April 15th is the deadline for nonresidential student applications.

ENROLLMENT AGREEMENT Accepted students must complete the online enrollment agreement and pay a non-refundable 30% deposit within two weeks of acceptance, or by provisional agreement with the Traditions Golf Academy Director of Admissions. This secures your child’s place at Traditions Golf Academy.The nonrefundable 30% enrollment deposit will be applied to tuition.

Full tuition is due August 1st.

CAN SIBLINGS OF TRADITIONS STUDENTS ATTEND THE O’NEAL SCHOOL? Yes. If your family is local or will be relocating with your Traditions student, admission to The O’Neal school is an option for students in grades PK3-12th. Contact the Traditions Director of Admissions for more information.

DOES TRADITIONS OFFER A BOARDING OPTION? Yes, we have several host families that are able to accommodate both domestic and international students if families will not be relocating with their student.

IS ADMISSION TO TRADITIONS GOLF ACADEMY COMPETITIVE? Yes. Due to the exclusivity of the program there are limited spots available each year.

CAN TRADITIONS STUDENTS BE INVOLVED WITH OTHER SPORTS AT O’NEAL? Yes. If a student’s schedule allows it, they can participate in athletics at O’Neal.

In the Upper School, we believe in creating a robust learning environment that challenges students to achieve their personal best. We promise that each student will be known, nurtured, encouraged, and well. A DAY IN THE LIFE Traditions works directly with the upper school teachers and leadership to create a schedule that allows for an optimal learning environment, and a robust training and travel schedule.

HOME AWAY FROM HOME International students and domestic students whose families will not be relocating will be placed with local host families. The O'Neal School has a robust host family program and we will work with each student to find the best fit. These families have ties to our O'Neal community and many of them have children who attend O'Neal. We strive to provide a safe and nurturing environment for our residential students.

What to expect: Host families are required to provide a safe and supportive environment, 3 meals a day, a separate bedroom with adequate furnishings (may share a bathroom), and transportation to school and from Traditions practices. It is important that families welcome the student as a member of their family and to offer support, which will help students to have a great experience!

Families will work directly with the Director of Admissions on host family placement.

BEYOND THE CLASSROOM

STUDENT LIFE A cornerstone of the O’Neal School experience lies in the Student Life programming. Whether through leadership development, student organizations, and clubs, or the campus-wide Red Blue challenge, the O’Neal School prides itself on creating connections across all aspects of student life in all three divisions.

One of O’Neal’s most cherished traditions is the Senior Buddy program. Started in 2011, each school year, all Seniors are paired with ‘buddies’ in the first and second grades. On the first day of school, Seniors greet their buddies welcoming them to the new year. Seniors and their buddies then have activities planned throughout the year culminating in our Senior walk the day before Commencement. While COVID-19 has impacted some of our cherished Student Life events like dances, our community has found ways to overcome these hurdles and has even started new traditions, including our Upper School outdoor movie night in the Fall.

PHILOSOPHY Traditions Golf Academy’s training curriculum and approach is based on individual development. Instruction focuses on the technical, physical, psychological and cerebral management of each student. Traditions Golf Academy participants will grow in all areas, becoming strong, resilient and capable of competing at the highest levels of golf.

Advanced Technical Training Traditions Golf Academy players begin their journey by undergoing a thorough player assessment. The assessment includes physical, mental and skill evaluations focusing on putting, chipping, bunker play, shot making, mental proficiency and physical skills. Instructors then precisely identify areas that need improvement and work with each golfer to establish individual goals.

Player assessments are repeated throughout the year to measure the growth and development of Traditions’ golfers.

Elite Sports Performance Instruction Traditions Golf Academy partners with Sandhills Sports Performance to provide the best junior golf performance training opportunities in the world.

Sandhills Sports Performance works with many of the top junior golfers in the world. Owner and Head Performance Coach Chris Poulin has also coached many top LPGA and PGA Tour players including Michelle Wie, Peter Uihlein, Stacy Lewis, Steven Gallager, Chris Wood, Tommy Fleetwood, and Masters winner Danny Willet - working in conjunction with other top performance coaches Kevin Duffy and David Donatucci.

Poulin’s expertise includes injury prevention through proper exercise prescription with movement-based warm ups, core activation, stability drills, power drills, strengthening and a focus on mobility. Traditions golfers work closely with Coach Poulin and his team of sports performance professionals and follow individually customized programs. Furthermore, unlike any other strength and conditioning programing, our coaches pinpoint and eradicate movement dysfunctions that lead to injury or poor performance. Traditions’ golfers will gain the competitive physical edge needed for top level performance.

Sports Psychological Development Traditions Golf Academy’s psychological training is also based on individual development. Traditions golfers will learn how to handle pressure, especially in the short game area. Our golfers will develop a pre-shot routine for driving/irons, chipping and putting. We will learn to visualize shots before executing them and to prepare for successful rounds. Students will set golf goals, work towards them and develop confidence in their all-around game.

Superior Mental Game Preparation Traditions Golf Academy students will benefit from Mental Skills Training.

Students will combine technical, physical, psychological and mental development and become the best decision makers in junior golf. Mental development includes learning to focus and recover from an errant shot and stay positive while on the golf course. Students will also develop game plans and reflect on tournament rounds (including your course management).

ELITE SPORTS PERFORMANCE INSTRUCTION Led by Chris Poulin, expert trainer to Major, PGA Tour and LPGA Tour players, Traditions Golf Academy students are regularly screened and tested to ensure physical imbalances, optimum speed and strength training are all working in sequence.

More than this however, it is our philosophy to develop our students into functioning athletes first and golfers second. With over 60 years combined experience, the team of Nick Bradley and Chris Poulin have designed tests and training around: Agility Rapid Recovery Training Breathing and Respiratory Techniques Coordinative and reflexive skill development Speed exercising married to mobility and balance Kinetic development

21st Century competitive golf demands that golfers are not just golfers but athlete's in every way. Today, college coaches place a huge emphasis on KPI’s (key performance indicators) with distance being top of the list. Every Traditions student athlete is treated as an individual fingerprint. The cornerstone of our conditioning is energy management. What we avoid at Traditions is the #1 contributing factor in athlete attrition and burnout; insufficient recovery.

Unlike many off the shelf academies, we teach our students the value of energy management and how it leads to performance functionality. Too many times, poor technique, poor mental attitude or poor luck has been attributed to mediocre performances when in reality there was always insufficient energy behind all of those results.

ATHLETES FIRST GOLFERS SECOND Athletic Agility Testing & Training A key component of the training philosophy at Traditions Golf Academy is the ability to move with speed whilst developing more efficient movement patterns. Our 5 core agility tests challenge the student to break their personals best times (PB's) through controlling those movement patterns. The 5 core tests have a unique correlation to optimal golf performance as well as ongoing physical development.

Technical Golf Patterning Experience has taught us that the body informs the swing in regard to what it is capable of. Broken body mirrors broken technique, so our first value is ‘do no harm’. With over 85% of golf injuries originating from gym work we place huge value on the health of our student athletes.

The sports performance team at Traditions Golf Academy work in conjunction with the instructors to teach the player better movement patterns. The benefit of our team approach lies in the ability for the player to speed up the improvement process while also gaining a deeper knowledge of their own game.

75% of PGA Tour professionals prefer to pattern their technique with designed gym routines. At Traditions, we follow this philosophy because of its physical and critical psychological benefits.
