WHAT a night to remember – the Times Business Awards 2018. There were ten categories with 51 companies and individuals on the shortlists all vying for the top spot in their particular field. The eventual winners [above] were announced by TV personality and former Cabinet minister the Rt Hon Michael Portillo [pictured right] during a glittering, gala dinner at Salomons in Tunbridge Wells. More than 200 guests at the sell-out event clapped and cheered as awards were handed to the winners. And there was a frenzy of activity on social media as the names were announced with the Times Twitter
account at one point hitting an impressive ‘potential reach’ of 30,000. Among the highlights was the fact creative agency Yoyo Design collected two awards. Managing Director Jenny Kitchen said yesterday [Tuesday]: “Both awards are a massive win for the whole agency and we’ve been celebrating since the evening itself. “I love the fact that in the submission, each point referenced initiatives and ideas which originated from the team, not just the management. This really is an award won by every single person in the agency.
“We’ve had some difficult times over the past 18 months, but we’ve come out fighting and the Outstanding Business of the Year is proof that we are set up for growth in the years to come.”
‘There are some extraordinary businesses here and some extraordinary stories’ Michael Portillo The second award Yoyo won was for Creative Business of the Year. In other comments, Meilissa Litchfield of HR Revolution said: “What a fabulous night, great venue, food, speaker, awards... we will definitely
be back next year.” While Scott Williams, of Clarke Williams commented: “We had a fantastic night surrounded by likeminded individuals in a beautiful setting. An excellent opportunity for networking with the best of local business, we will be returning.” Times Editorial Director Richard Moore said: “Three years ago when we talked about launching the Business Awards there was a certain amount of apprehension, as there is with any new venture. “How would the awards be received? Would people support them? Well, the answer is a resounding ‘yes’ and for that we thank all those who have helped make them such a success.”
