Welcome to Trinity’s autumn season! I hope you are as excited as I am that our Christmas show this year is the classic MGM musical The Wizard Of Oz with all the songs you know and love from the film, including the iconic ‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow’. It has taken over 4 years of negotiation to be able to secure the rights to do the show and I don’t think the timing could be better for a show that encourages us to be optimistic in facing the future! Also, what could I possibly find to follow last summer’s Monty Python’s Spamalot? I hope I have found that in the shape of the hit comedy One Man Two Guvnors - which should bring a smile to people’s faces as we come to the end of the summer. I think it’s important for us to recognise what Trinity now does in producing professional theatre. In the last two years we have produced an original children’s show, our Christmas musical and have supported my productions in August. This means that a staggering 58% of the professional drama performances that we present are actually “made in Tunbridge Wells”! I believe that this is an important step in helping Tunbridge Wells to be recognised as a centre of cultural excellence. Our mission is to encourage our communities to engage in the widest range of cultural activities and this can be seen not only in what we present on our stage and screen but also in the work that we do with schools, the community, KCC and groups such as the Good Neighbour Project. You will read elsewhere in the brochure more details about what we’re doing here and I believe that Trinity fulfils a vital role in our community. We manage to achieve this in a landscape of increasing costs and reducing funding and can only do what we do by the continued support of our wonderful volunteers and staff who all work tirelessly to make Trinity what it is. We cannot do this without your support and I would ask you to think of doing two things this autumn finding time to take in an additional show or screening and consider making a donation, either online or when you are booking your tickets. Forty five years after Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour filmed Live At Pompeii in the legendary Roman amphitheatre, he returned for two spectacular shows. Audio-visual spectacles, the concerts featured stellar performances from an all-star band. The show includes songs from throughout David’s career, as well as many Pink Floyd classics, including One Of These Days, the only song that was also performed at the band’s 1971 show. Creatives @ Tunbridge Wells Tue 8 – Sun 20 Aug An exciting art exhibition from ten local talented artists, who are all part of the Creatives@TunbridgeWells collective. The styles, media, techniques and subject matter reflect the individual artists’ interests, influences and passions; although wide ranging in these regards their common thread is ‘quality’. From abstract to figurative work there is something to suit every taste, so come and be taken in by a brilliance of colour and creativity.

Weeda Aesthetica Eddie van der Werf Tue 22 Aug – Sun 3 Sep

The exhibition considers how the mundane and uninteresting subject of garden weeds can be conceptualized and become a focus of aesthetic appreciation. Bringing garden weeds into the studio, bright summer sunlight alternating with shade has been contrasted with blue glass vases, thus imitating the traditional Northern European style of oil paintings of flowers and vases.

Following a successful debut exhibition in April, The Rare Skills Gallery is delighted to be returning to Trinity with a new exhibition of work by highly skilled, local artists working in oil, acrylic, watercolour, ink, mixed media or photomontage. As with the earlier exhibition, it promises to be an appealing, intriguing and uplifting assault on the senses. Each artist has a different approach to the landscapes, seascapes, wildlife and architecture that inspire them; all reflecting the beauty and cultural heritage of Kent and Sussex.

Inspirations

Monart Tue 19 Sep – Sun 1 Oct We are a group from the local area and have exhibited elsewhere without being arrested. Our talents differ, although not necessarily simultaneously, and we address agreed ‘themes’ before each doing what we want. We sometimes ask ‘professionals’ to ‘critique’ paintings (if they remain complimentary) and occasionally visit exhibitions if they offer ‘concessions.’ An ‘outside’ session in an Engine Shed left us ‘steamed up’ and we found Bayham Abbey to be ruined before we arrived.

Drawing From The Past Eddie Armer Tue 3 – Sun 8 Oct

Local artist and musician Eddie Armer rarely exhibits, but he feels that the time is now right for his first solo exhibition. This retrospective selection of work includes life drawings, paintings and landscapes. Eddie has been running life drawing workshops for many years in Kent, London and Tuscany. He is currently working on his second book for the Search Press Masterclass Drawing series.

Stone Works

Frances Bristow with Martin Bradshaw & John Hooley Tue 24 Oct – Sun 5 Nov Stone is old beyond our comprehension, it is the matter of earth. Its physical properties, colour and texture, density and weight, reveal its origin. Stone upholds our world and it will outlive us. In this exhibition stone is seen two dimensionally with painted works by Martin Bradshaw and John Hooley and in the round with tactile sculptures by Frances Bristow. Please come and experience the world as we see it.

Over The Line

Emily Richards Tue 21 – Sun 26 Nov Emily Richards is an accomplished illustrator and designer from Kent. The focuses of her illustrations range from wildlife to architecture. Emily is a supplier for Waitrose and John Lewis. Her illustrations were printed on kitchenware and sold nationwide. Her source of inspiration is classic watercolour paintings to which she then adds a modern contemporary touch, which is expressed through her disregard for colour within line. Emily also commissions private work for customers through her website.

Everest And Norton

Derek Norton & Steve Everest Tue 21 – Sun 26 Nov Derek Norton paints watercolours recording the working past of Britain. Oasthouses, Thames and Medway barges and Hastings fishing boats are recurring themes in his work. He paints similar scenes in France which are disappearing in a parallel way. Steve Everest is a local watercolour artist specialising in architectural commissions and Mediterranean subjects from travels in France, Italy and Egypt, in his photographic style featuring stark sunlight and deep shadows. sponsored by Trinity Gallery is

For a prompt start, latecomers will be admitted at the discretion of the management at a suitable point in the performance.

Monday to Saturday, 10am-3pm and one hour before performances.

Tickets can be purchased over the phone on 01892 678 678 during Box Office opening times and online at any time at trinitytheatre.net. There is a ÂŁ2 booking fee per transaction booking online or via phone. You can also book in person during Box Office opening times for which no booking fee is charged. Those with a Friends membership pay no booking fee both online and in person. This brochure is available in large print, please contact the Box Office to request your copy.

Discounts

Where advertised, concessions are available to those in full time education, senior citizens (60yrs+), Go! Card holders and the registered disabled. Childrenâ€™s tickets are for ages 15yrs and under. School and group discounts are available on some events - please contact the Box Office for more information.

Location

Trinity is located centrally in Tunbridge Wells, just a five minute walk up the hill from the train station.

Parking

There are a number of pay and display car parks located nearby; we also have our own pay and display car park adjacent to the theatre. Please note overnight charges now apply. Trinity has a limited number of parking spaces with two reserved spaces for Blue Badge holders (no charge for badge holders). Any vehicles parked in breach of the displayed parking conditions will be issued with an excess charge notice. Trinity does not receive any financial or other benefit from these charges.

Access

Customers with Access requirements may use the ramp at the rear door to the ground floor. Carers go free and guide dogs are welcome. Hearing assistance headsets are available for all performances upon request.

Come and celebrate our 35th Anniversary with this family friendly event! Every September some 40,000 volunteers across England organise 5,000 events to celebrate our fantastic history and culture. There will be a short presentation followed by a guided tour around the magical Grade II* listed building, built by Decimus Burton.
