Dr. Gargi Saha, Child Protection Officer , United Nations Children’s Fund, Bihar Field Office, Patna
There is a lack of experts in the field of regional languages and their translations in India, as it still remains a lesser-known field. Whereas local language plays an important role for the masses of population in the world. People can get several high educational degrees and migrate to other states or countries to earn a l i v i n g , h o w e v e r d u e t o l a c k o f knowledge in regional languages usually, they do not progress or move up the ladder beyond a certain limit most of the times. They aren’t able to make their clients, customers or b e n e f i c i a r i e s u n d e r s t a n d t h e i r languages and vice versa due to lack o f o r p o o r l a n g u a g e a n d communication skills. In such cases, people need the help of translators. The key language of ancient Indian Upanishads and religious is Sanskrit, which is popularly known as the language of Gods and Goddesses in India. When religious texts or books are translated in regional languages, local people living in that area can understand and relate well and it also c r e a t e s a d e e p f e e l i n g a n d connection with the spiritual power. I came across Geeta Sharma through one of our partner agencies’ staff member based at Ambikapur, M r. R a j n a r a y a n D w i v e d i a n d wanted to highlight some of her noteworthy contributions in the field o f l a n g u a g e e s p e c i a l l y Chhattisgarhi. She is well versed in Sanskrit, Chhattisgarhi and Hindi, h o w e v e r m a d e i m m e n s e c o n t r i b u t i o n i n t h e d o m a i n s o f literature, academics and mythology in Chhattisgarh. Apart from being a poet, writer, columnist and translator, h e r n o t a b l e w o r k s i n c l u d e Mahabharat Ka patra, Isadi Nav U p n i s h a d C h h a t t i s g a r h i , S h i v Mahapuran as well as articles in magazines and journals, felicitated by Indian and Global Book of records. Isadi Nav Upnishad Chhattisgarhi, Shiv Mahapuran were published by the Government of Chhattisgarh. She is also a meticulous researcher and contributed to many research articles in national and international journals. However, most importantly, she has made immense efforts to popularize her mother tongue among the people of Chhattisgarh. Recently I have been trying to hone my own writing skills through a collection of short essays and articles based on my own work and interventions in the field of protection of children in India. Would definitely appreciate mrs Sharma’s advice in getting them published at some point in near future.
It would be an honor and pride for the people of Chhattisgarh if Geeta Sharma is awarded by the Government of India.
I wish her all the very best in all h e r f u t u r e e n d e a v o r s a n d l o o k forward to associating closely with her and her work.
Best regards..!
