Bus Adventure
Bus Adventure
Ricky is going to visit his grandmother and spend the day at the park for his birthday. He is very excited.
Alright, Ricky, we want to be at the bus stop 5 minutes early so we should walk fast.
Be sure to watch for the OmniRide Bus Stop sign. That’s where we’ll wait for the bus.
At the bus stop, Ricky’s Mom reminds him of the OmniRde rules one more time.
Remember to pay your fare and listen for the driver to call out your stop.
Grandma will be waiting for you at the bus stop near the park.
Ricky also knows he must always stay on the sidewalk where it’s safe to wait for the bus.
Ricky hears the familiar sound of the bus engine. As the bus arrives, he reads the sign above the front windshield to make sure it’s the right bus!
He waits patiently as the other passengers get off the bus.
When it is Ricky’s turn, he grabs the handrail and walks carefully up the steps. His mother calls out behind him, Bye Ricky, have fun at the park today.
Miss D. Rivers, the bus operator, recognizes Ricky. Hello Ricky! Are you riding all by yourself today? asks Miss Rivers.
Yes, and I’m going to meet my grandma at the park for my birthday picnic, says Ricky.
Well, welcome aboard, and happy birthday! adds Miss Rivers. Ricky pays his fare and walks back to find the perfect seat.
Ricky wants his grandma to be proud of him, so he remembers his bus manners.
He faces forward and never puts his hands outside the windows. Ricky also knows he should not eat, drink, play loud music or talk loudly on the phone while on the bus.
At the next stop, the ramp at the front door is lowered and a man in a shiny blue wheelchair gets on the OmniRide bus. While Miss Rivers helps lock the wheelchair safely in place she tells Ricky, This is my friend Mr. Victor.
Hello Mr. Victor, I’m going to have a picnic with my grandma. Where are you going today? asks Ricky.
I’m going to meet my friends at the theater to watch a movie, Mr. Victor replies.

Ricky is happy to have a friend on the bus. They sit near each other and watch as Miss Rivers stops the bus at all sorts of familiar and fun places. They listen as Miss Rivers calls out the stops.

Next stop, the ice cream shop. Next stop, the library. Next stop, the toy store. Next stop, the mall.

Ricky waves goodbye to his new friend. Mr. Victor waits until the bus passes and crosses the street at the crosswalk on his way to the movie theater.
Next stop, the park, announces Miss Rivers as the bus begins to move again.
Oh boy! Ricky says out loud. He can’t wait to see his grandmother.
Ricky watches out the window and soon sees his grandmother waiting for him at the next bus stop.
He pulls the cord above the window to let Miss Rivers know he wants to get off the bus.
After the bus comes to a complete stop, Ricky holds the handrail as he walks down the steps. He waves to Miss Rivers and says, Thank you.
Then he runs over to hug his grandmother, Did you see me riding on the bus, Grandma?
Yes, Ricky, I am so proud of you. What a smart birthday boy! says his grandmother.
Ricky is very proud of his first bus adventure. He can hardly wait to ride the OmniRide bus again.
What a great birthday this has been so far, and there is even more fun waiting for him at the park! The End.
