Supporting our cinema colleagues in the Ukraine

WE HAVE ALL WATCHED with a sense of horror and helplessness the unfolding situation in Ukraine. Many will have already donated to international relief efforts co-ordinated by the Disasters Emergency Committee, the Red Cross and others, all doing vital work to help those affected by the conflict.

UK cinemas are already playing their part, with preview screenings of the Swiss-Ukrainian film “Olga” planned across hundreds of cinemas in the coming weeks to raise funds for the Disasters Emergency Committee.

In addition, we wanted to provide an opportunity for those working in the wider cinema sector to help individuals and their families within our industry who are impacted. In discussion with the Union of Cinemas of Ukraine, the Event Cinema Association and the UK Cinema Association, supported by colleagues at the digital creative studio Powster, have set up a donation page online under the banner of ‘Cinemas for Ukraine’ (cinemasforukraine.com)

With the advice of the national Ukrainian cinema trade body, all donations made will be directed to the Fedir Shpyg Charitable Foundation, which has long-standing experience in giving targeted charitable assistance. Beneficiaries will include those working in the Ukrainian cinema industry, their families and others affected by the conflict. This is an opportunity for all of those working in the cinema sector to show their solidarity with colleagues in Ukraine at a time of extraordinary need.

Thank you for any support you can provide. Please visit cinemasforukraine. com to make a donation.
