Cette exposition a rassemblé dans le lobby et sous la Verrière de l’établissement, de fin novembre à début janvier, une vingtaine d’œuvres originales réalisées par les étudiants du département de Création de mode de l’Ecole Mod’Art International sur le thème « Wild Christmas » : une forêt imaginaire composée de sapins féériques et fantasmagoriques aux thèmes animaliers.

Trois sapins ont été récompensés par ce prestigieux jury, au premier rang desquels Effeuillage Précieux de Victoria Kang, arbre constitué d’éclats émaillés aux motifs de feuille. Les deuxième et troisième prix ont été respectivement attribués à Portrait d’oiseaux de Sibylle Cario – sapin composé d’estampes japonisantes aux thèmes d’oiseaux – et à Wonderland de Mathilde Boulay, un sapin en cuir marron évoquant un monde enchanté.

La gagnante du Premier prix a gagné un weekend à l’hôtel InterContinental London Park Lane de Londres, avec voyage aller/retour en Eurostar, tous les lauréats recevant par ailleurs des cadeaux Nicolas Feuillatte et Printemps.

From late November until early January, this exhibition featured, in the hotel lobby and La Verrière, over twenty original designs by fashion design students at the Ecole Mod’Art International fashion design college. an imaginary forest made up of magical and dreamlike animal themed Christmas trees.

The prestigious jury awarded prizes for three Christmas trees, the first of which went to Effeuillage Précieux (Leafy treasures) by Victoria Kang, made of leaf-shaped enamelled fragments. Second and third prizes were awarded respectively to Portrait d’oiseaux (Bird portraits) by Sibylle Cario – made up of Japanese style bird themed prints – and to Wonderland by Mathilde Boulay, a chestnut-brown leather Christmas tree evoking an enchanted world.

The winner of the first prize has won a weekend at the London Park Lane InterContinental Hotel, including a return ticket to London on Eurostar. All prize-winners have also won Nicolas Feuillatte and Printemps gifts.

Le 2ème sommet GLOBAL ZERO, qui s’est tenu l’an dernier à l’Intercontinental Paris Le Grand, a réuni 200 personnalités internationales issues d’horizons divers (hommes politiques, militaires, hommes d’affaires, religieux et universitaires) afin de lancer la phase suivante du mouvement GLOBAL ZERO, qui vise à trouver des solutions concrètes et à mobiliser l’opinion publique en faveur de ce projet : un monde sans armes nucléaires.

The 2nd GLOBAL ZERO Summit was held the last year at the Intercontinental Paris Le Grand, and convened 200 eminent international political, military, business, civic, faith and student leaders to launch the next phase of the GLOBAL ZERO movement to generate practical policy solutions and build public support to achieve the vision of a world without nuclear weapons.

Les présidents Barack Obama et Dmitri Medvedev ont exprimé leur soutien sans faille au mouvement. Le président Obama a notamment déclaré : « Mon administration et moi-même nous engageons à soutenir GLOBAL ZERO dans ses efforts. Ensemble, nous pouvons œuvrer pour la sécurité de notre génération et des suivantes.

Ensemble, nous pouvons créer un monde sans armes nucléaires. » Dans son discours d’inauguration, l’ancien secrétaire d’État américain George Shultz a délivré un message fort, affirmant que le soutien politique dont bénéficie notre programme nous autorise à « espérer et croire que le monde est prêt. » Des messages d’encouragement ont été adressés par le Secrétaire général des Nations Unies, Ban Ki-moon, ainsi que par le Premier ministre britannique Gordon Brown. D’autres personnalités politiques, telles que le ministre brésilien des Affaires étrangères Celso Amorim, le ministre suédois des Affaires étrangères Carl Bildt, le Secrétaire général du ministère des Affaires étrangères français Pierre Sellal et la sous-secrétaire d’État américaine Ellen Tauscher ont également fait part de leur soutien.

La commission internationale GLOBAL ZERO, composée de 23 personnalités politiques et militaires, a établi un plan d’action concret, échelonné sur 20 ans, visant à éradiquer les armes nucléaires. Ce plan inclut également des dispositifs de vérification et d’application, ainsi que de protection anti-nucléaire. Les discussions engagées pendant le sommet ont notamment porté sur les obstacles au « zéro nucléaire », tels que le bouclier antimissile, les déséquilibres conventionnels et la dissuasion étendue.

We were honored to receive a video message of support from UN SecretaryGeneral Ban Ki-moon as well as a generous letter of support from Prime Minister Gordon Brown. Senior government officials also addressed the Summit, including Brazilian Foreign Minister Celso Amorim, Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt, French Secretary-General Pierre Sellal, and US Under Secretary of State Ellen Tauscher.

The international GLOBAL ZERO Commission of 23 political and military leaders developed a practical step-by-step action plan to eliminate all nuclear weapons over two decades, including a comprehensive verification and enforcement system and strengthened nuclear safeguards. The Summit discussions contributed to GLOBAL ZERO’s cutting-edge work in addressing associated issues on the road to zero, such as missile defense, conventional imbalances and extended deterrence.

Media coverage of the Summit was worldwide and positive, including mainstream television and more than 1,200 articles in top media outlets in more than 67 countries.

CHRISTOPHE LAURE : UN NOUVEAU DIRECTEUR GENERAL POUR L’INTERCONTINENTAL PARIS A NEW DIRECTOR FOR THE PARIS INTERCONTINENTAL HOTEL

Fidèle depuis 18 ans à la chaîne hôtelière de luxe, il revient dans l’établissement fétiche qu’il avait contribué à métamorphoser

Faithful to the luxury hotel chain for the last 18 years, he is now returning to the iconic hotel that he helped to transform.

Christophe Laure, 45 ans, a été nommé en octobre dernier Directeur général de l’InterContinental Paris.

Un établissement fétiche qu’il retrouve avec bonheur, 9 ans après en avoir été le No.2. De 2002 à 2004, il avait en effet coordonné la rénovation complète de l’établissement – une métamorphose de plus de 150 millions d‘euros. Supervisant toute la réouverture, il avait travaillé à repositionner l’hôtel vers le haut de gamme, en faisant l’une des propriétés de référence de la chaîne de luxe dans le monde. « C’est une fierté de diriger aujourd’hui cet établissement, l’un des vaisseaux-amiraux d’InterContinental », explique-t-il.

Un nouveau défi pour cet homme fort de la chaîne hôtelière de luxe britannique, qui a auparavant dirigé pendant près de trois ans l’InterContinental Madrid, et contribue avec constance au développement international de la marque depuis 18 ans.

Une belle fidélité qui lui a valu de parcourir l’Europe et le Moyen-Orient pour prendre successivement la tête de plusieurs établissements de poids du groupe. « Je n’ai jamais cherché un cocon protecteur, alors cette remise en cause permanente me va bien, explique-t-il. Et j’apprécie cette volonté d’InterContinental de bien gérer ses hommes en leur permettant de s’épanouir à leurs postes ».

Né à Nice, mais installé très jeune au Cap Martin, tout près de Monaco, Christophe Laure est très tôt fasciné par l’hôtellerie. Dès 15 ans, il rejoint les bancs du lycée hôtelier de la Principauté puis de Nice. Avec, en ligne de mire immédiate, la Côte d’Azur et ses palaces. Après des études au sein de la prestigieuse Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne – « un formidable carrefour de nationalités et d’échanges humains qui incitent à faire une carrière internationale» - et un passage au Concorde Lafayette de Paris, il redescend sur la Riviera pour rejoindre le service banquets du prestigieux Martinez.

Deux ans plus tard, en 1992, le Carlton voisin attire à lui ce jeune homme qui a boosté l’activité du concurrent. C’est le début d’une histoire de 18 ans au sein de la chaîne de luxe InterContinental. “Dès le départ, j’ai cru en la fidélité à une enseigne que l’on accompagne dans son évolution » se rappelle-t-il.

Supervising all aspects of the reopening, he worked to reposition the hotel in an upscale market by making it a worldwide benchmark for the luxury chain.

“I am proud to be manager of this hotel, which is one of InterContinental’s flagship establishments”, he explains.

This is a new challenge for the British luxury hotel chain’s luminary, who managed the Intercontinental Madrid for nearly three years before taking up this new appointment, and who has constantly contributed to the brand’s international development for over 18 years.

This fidelity has earned him positions as manager of several of the group’s most important hotels throughout Europe and the Middle East. “I’ve never been self-protective, so this constant challenge suits me” he explains.

“And I appreciate InterContinental’s methods of staff management through job satisfaction”.

Born in Nice, but moving very early to Cap Martin, close to Monaco, Christophe Laure found the hotel business fascinating from an early age.

At 15 he enrolled at a hotel management school, firstly in Monaco and then in Nice. His first target was the French Riviera and its luxury hotels.

After studying at the prestigious Lausanne hotel management school –“a marvellous crossroads for different nationalities and communication which really encourages you to pursue an international career” – and a stint at the Paris Concorde Lafayette, he returned to the Riviera to join the prestigious Hotel Martinez’s banquet department.

Two years later, in 1992, the neighbouring Carlton Hotel secured the services of the young man who had boosted their competitor’s business. And so started 18 years with the Intercontinental luxury hotel chain. “From the very start I believed in staying faithful to a company that you can grow with” he says.

Les Grands Magasins indissociables de la vie parisienne sont apparus à la fin du XIXe siècle.

The department stores that are inseparable from Parisian life emerged in the late nineteenth century.

Nés des profonds changements de la société de cette époque : explosion démographique, accroissement de l’épargne, développement des transports entraînant un élan libérateur qui abolit les corporations et mit les produits de consommation à la portée du plus grand nombre. Lieu de la modernité, les Grands Magasins furent pionniers dans l’utilisation des nouvelles technologies du temps comme la charpente métallique, l’éclairage électrique, les ascenseurs. Ils trouvèrent naturellement leur place rive droite dans les nouveaux quartiers créés par le baron Haussmann, sauf le plus ancien d’entre eux, Le Bon Marché, qui s’installa rive gauche. Ainsi, c’est boulevard Haussmann, à deux pas du Grand Hôtel, que se dressent le Printemps et les Galeries Lafayette.

They were born out the profound changes that took place in society of that era: population explosion, increasing savings, development of transportation that gave a freeing momentum that did away with corporations and put consumer products within the reach of many. A place of modernity, department stores were pioneers in using the new technologies of the era such as the metal framework, electrical lighting, and elevators. They found their natural place on the Rive Droite (right bank) of the river in the new districts created by Baron Haussmann, except for the oldest one, Le Bon Marché, which set up on the Rive Gauche (left bank). So, it was on Boulevard Haussmann right next to the Grand Hotel where Printemps and Galeries Lafayette were built.

Le Printemps Au cœur du Luxe

Hier - Fondé en 1865 par Jules Jaluzot, un jeune homme de 31 ans, fils de notaire, devenu chef du rayon soierie au Bon Marché.

Visionnaire, il installe son magasin de « nouveautés » au coin de la rue du Havre et du tout nouveau boulevard Haussmann dans un quartier en travaux et….désert et le baptise « Les Quatre saisons ». Zola le cite dans « Au Bonheur des dames ». Il y propose, sagement rangés, coupons de soie et de laine, confection, maroquinerie, meubles. Cinq ans plus tard, les techniques de vente ont changé, la marchandise est déployée, ce qui fait affluer les chalands et l’enseigne qui s’appelle maintenant « Le Printemps » emploie 250 personnes.

En quelques années, le magasin reconstruit, agrandi et décoré par des architectes et artistes de renom va devenir un véritable monument à la gloire du négoce. Il sera le premier en 1874 à installer des ascenseurs, puis l’éclairage électrique.

Le Printemps

In the heart of Luxury

Then - Founded in 1865 by Jules Jaluzot, a young man, 31 years old, and son of a notary who became head of the silk department at Bon Marché. He was a visionary and set up his shop with «new items» at the corner of Rue du Havre and the new Boulevard Haussmann in a neighborhood that was under construction and deserted and called it «Les Quatre saisons»(The Four Seasons).

Zola mentioned it in «Au Bonheur des dames» (The Ladies’ Delight or The Ladies’ Paradise).

There he sold wisely arranged rolls of silk and wool, garments, leather goods, and furniture. Five years later, the sales techniques changed and the merchandise was displayed which made business pour in and the brand that is now called «Le Printemps (Spring)» employed 250 people.

A few years later, the store was rebuilt, enlarged, and decorated by renowned architects and artists and became a veritable monument to the glory of business. It was the first in 1874 to install elevators and then electrical lighting.

Hier C’est en 1854, qu’Aristide Boucicaut, jusque-là commis Au Petit Saint Thomas, un magasin de tissus de la rue du Bac, ouvre dans le même quartier une boutique de « nouveautés » à l’enseigne du Bon Marché. Prônant des actions commerciales inédites : entrée libre, multiplication des produits vendus à petite marge, lancement du « mois du Blanc », livraison à domicile « aussi loin qu’un cheval peut aller dans Paris ». A true gem of gothic architecture, Sainte-Chapelle was built in Paris by order of Saint Louis in the mid-thirteenth century alongside the Palais-Royal, at the heart of Ile de la Cité, to house the relics of the Passion of Christ.

In medieval times, Christian fervour attributed great value to the relics, and possession of them also brought great prestige. Thus, in 1239, after two years of negotiations, Saint Louis bought Christ’s Crown of Thorns from Baldwin II, the Emperor of Constantinople, for the sum of 135,000 livres (or three times the amount it would cost to build the chapel). After it was transferred to Paris along with other relics, including a fragment of the True Cross, which the king and his family welcomed with great pomp, he decided to build a monument worthy of holding these treasures.

Construction began in 1241, presumably under the direction of Pierre de Montreuil, architect of the Notre-Dame and Saint-Denis cathedrals, and – fuelled by passion – was completed by 1248, an incredibly short time for the period.

The Palatine Chapel The building is comprised of two superposed chapels following the palatine model: a lower chapel – the palace’s parish – and an upper chapel reserved for the king, his close friends and family, who had direct access via a gallery from their apartments. Its nineteenth-century spire replicates the fifteenth-century spire, towering 75 metres above the earth.

Á l’époque médiévale, la ferveur chrétienne attribuait une très grande valeur aux reliques, dont la possession conférait également un immense prestige. Ainsi, en 1239, Saint Louis, au terme de deux ans de négociations, acquiert auprès de Beaudouin II, empereur de Constantinople, la couronne d’épines du Christ pour une somme de 135.000 livres (soit plus de trois fois le prix que coûtera la construction de la Chapelle). Après son transfert à Paris avec d’autres reliques, dont un morceau de la vraie croix, que le roi accueille en grande pompe avec toute sa famille, il décide de la construction d’un monument digne d’accueillir ces trésors.

Commencé en 1241, sous la direction présumée du maître d’œuvre Pierre de Montreuil, architecte de Notre-Dame et de Saint-Denis, l’édifice sera achevé - ferveur aidant - en 1248, un délai d’exécution incroyable pour l’époque.

La chapelle haute, lieu d’exposition des reliques conçue comme une châsse monumentale, ressemble à un majestueux vaisseau haut de 20 mètres 50. Ses murs ont été littéralement gommés par une prouesse technique inédite (d’importants contreforts extérieurs reliés par un chaînage) au profit d’immenses baies qu’habillent plus de 600 m2 de vitraux aux coloris inouïs que l’on découvre le souffle coupé. Les 15 parois lumineuses séparées par de minces chapiteaux de pierre sculptés illustrent presque toutes, telle une Bible de couleur et de lumière, des thèmes de l’Ancien et du Nouveau Testament. Elles contiennent 1.134 scènes qui se lisent de gauche à droite et de bas en haut. On découvre ainsi la Genèse, l’Exode, la Terre promise, la vie de la Vierge, l’Enfance du Christ, la Passion, Saint-Jean…, jusqu’à l’histoire des reliques où figure Saint-Louis sur son cheval blanc.

Awestruck viewers thus discover Genesis, Exodus, the Promise Land, the life of the Virgin Mary, the Christ child, the Passion, Saint John the Baptist, and so on, all the way up until the story of the relics featuring Saint Louis on his white horse.

The Passion of Christ in the central bay of the choir, which originally surmounted the “Grande Châsse” reliquary – to which only the king had the keys –, is matched by scenes of the Apocalypse encased in the splendid rose window that illuminates the chapel’s west facade.

Glorified by the slightest ray of sunlight, this set of exceptional stained glass windows in vibrant hues of red, blue and gold, two thirds of which are original works, are the finest examples of thirteenth-century craftsmanship.

In addition to the murals faithfully restored in the nineteenth century, the sculpted decorations of the upper chapel are perfectly executed. Statues of the twelve apostles are topped by capitals exquisitely carved with over a hundred plant motifs such as flowers, foliage and fruit.

Sainte-Chapelle was severely damaged during the Revolution, during which time the relics were hidden for safekeeping. It underwent a remarkable restoration during the nineteenth century under the direction of Duban, Lassus and Viollet-le-Duc. Some 800,000 visitors of 40 different nationalities visit this masterpiece of gothic art each year. The relics are now held in the Treasury of Notre-Dame. The Crown of Thorns is displayed the first Friday of the month at 3 p.m. during a ceremony with the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre.

Gravement endommagée pendant la Révolution, durant laquelle les reliques furent mises à l’abri, la Sainte-Chapelle a fait l’objet au XIXe siècle d’une restauration exemplaire dirigée par Duban, Lassus et Viollet-le-Duc. En 1860, le village de Monceau est annexé à Paris afin de s’intégrer dans un vaste plan d’urbanisation, dont la réalisation est confiée par Napoléon III au Préfet Haussmann. Les lieux prennent le nom de quartier de la plaine Monceau, où l’aristocratie et la haute bourgeoisie, charmées par son aspect encore champêtre, se font construire de somptueux hôtels particuliers. C’est ici, en plein centre du futur boulevard Haussmann, qu’Édouard André, héritier d’une famille de banquiers, propriétaire de la Gazette des Beaux-Arts et président de l’Union centrale des Arts Décoratifs, décide de faire édifier sa demeure. Il en confie la réalisation à l’architecte Henri Parent qui vient d’être écarté au profit de son confrère Garnier, de la construction du nouvel Opéra.

In 1860, the village of Monceau was annexed to Paris as part of a major urbanisation plan designed by Prefect Haussmann in the service of Napoléon III. The neighbourhood adopted the name of the Monceau plain, a somewhat still rural setting that charmed aristocrats and the well-to-do as a place to build their lavish mansions. It was here, right in the middle of the future Boulevard Haussmann, that Édouard André — heir to a banking family, owner of the Gazette des Beaux-Arts and President of the Central Union of Decorative Arts — decided to build his private residence. He commissioned the project to architect Henri Parent, who had just lost out to his colleague Garnier for the construction of the new Opera. The classicstyle mansion was completed in 1875 and all of Paris feted it with the same enthusiasm they showed the Opera’s foyer.

Inauguré en 1875, le fastueux hôtel particulier de style classique est salué par le Tout-Paris de la même façon qu’il avait salué le foyer de l’Opéra. Disposant de moyens illimités, Édouard André met sa fortune au service de ses acquisitions d’œuvres d’art, parmi lesquelles de multiples chefs-d’œuvre de la peinture française du XVIIIe siècle et de maîtres flamands du XVIIe. En 1881, son mariage avec Nélie Jacquemart, une artiste rencontrée alors qu’elle exécutait son portrait, le conforte dans son projet de faire de sa vaste maison un véritable musée privé. Aimant les voyages, amoureuse de l’Italie où elle se rendait chaque été, Nélie oriente les acquisitions de son mari vers des œuvres de la Renaissance italienne.

Une demeure de collectionneurs

A house of collectors Pass through the museum doors and be greeted by a portrait of the aristocratic Edouard André by Winterhalter. Then the refined world of this extraordinary couple takes over, immersing the visitor in a sea of rare objects acquired in the couple’s quest for art across Europe and the Orient. The first reception room groups French 18th-century paintings from Boucher, Vigée-Lebrun, Chardin and also boasts a ravishing portrait by Nattier of «Mathilde de Canisy, marquise dÁntin», beautifully encircled in a garland sash of flowers (1738). Next comes the gilded Grand Salon, replete with more personal objects, elegantly furnished and decorated with Beauvais tapestries. This room opens on to the library — the jewel of the house’s main floor. Here one discovers eloquent Flemish and Dutch paintings from the 17th century by Van Dyck, Franz Hals, Ruysdael, as well as three works by Rembrandt, including a haunting work painted in his youth, «Christ and the Pilgrims of Emmaus» (ca. 1629).

A man of unlimited resources, Édouard André dedicated his fortune to art, and his collection contains many masterpieces of 18th-century French and 17th-century Flemish painting. In 1881 he married Nélie Jacquemart, an artist he met while sitting for his portrait. She proved to be a valuable resource in his project to transform his immense home into a private museum. She liked to travel, adored Italy and spent every summer there. Nélie turned the husband’s collector focus towards works of the Italian Renaissance.

Rembrandt parmi lesquelles l’inoubliable « Le Christ et les pèlerins d’Emmaüs » (vers 1629), réalisé pendant sa jeunesse.

C’est depuis le jardin d’hiver, par un escalier théâtral à double révolution, décoré d’une fresque de Tiepolo provenant de la villa vénitienne des Contarini, qu’on accède au premier étage conçu comme un véritable musée italien. L’ancien atelier de Nélie abrite près de 200 sculptures italiennes, mais aussi des montants de porte, des colonnes, des plaques de bronze et tout ce qui pouvait contribuer à reconstituer l’ambiance florentine.

Lui faisant suite, la salle florentine, cœur de la collection de la maîtresse de maison, présente parmi des œuvres - particulièrement des vierges à l’enfant - de Botticelli, Botticini, le Pérugin, un spectaculaire tableau au charme féerique « Saint-Georges terrassant le Dragon » (vers 1465) de Paolo Uccello devant lequel on reste saisi. Martin Scorsese, lors d’un tournage au musée, s’était écrié en le découvrant : « Un vrai décor de cinéma ! » Après la visite de La salle vénitienne témoignant du goût des André pour les artistes vénitiens du XVe siècle, Mantegna, Bellini et Carpaccio, ne pas manquer de s’arrêter avant de quitter cet attachant musée, dans l’ancienne salle à manger au splendide plafond peint par Tiepolo, devenue le plus beau salon de thé de Paris ! Á la mort d’Édouard André, Nélie Jacquemart poursuivit ses voyages pour agrandir ses collections qu’elle légua, ainsi que l’hôtel particulier, à l’Institut de France pour en faire un musée qui ouvrit ses portes dès 1913.

Next comes the Florentine room, the heart of hostess’s collection, whose works include many virgin and child motifs from the likes of Botticelli, Botticini, Perugino. There is also one spectacular, magical painting: «Saint George slaying the Dragon» (ca. 1465) from Paolo Uccello. It stops all viewers in their tracks. Martin Scorsese stumbled upon the work while shooting a film in the museum and cried out: «A real film set!»

Visit the Venetian room, ample evidence of André’s taste for Venetian artists of the 15th-century — Mantegna, Bellini and Carpaccio. And before leaving this engaging museum, don’t miss stopping to admire the splendid ceiling painted by Tiepolo in the former dining room, and what is now one of the most beautiful tea rooms in all of Paris!

Upon Édouard’s death, Nélie Jacquemart continued her travels to augment her collection. She bequeathed both art work and mansion to the Institut de France with the charge of making a public museum that opened its doors in 1913.

Péché d’ivresse Sinfully intoxicating

Dans le Paris des Années Folles, tout le gratin mondain se presse au 15 rue de la Paix pour découvrir les fragrances suaves, créées par une certaine Blanche Arvoy. Connue pour parfumer les maîtresses de Paris, elle signe des élixirs présentés dans des flacons richement décorés, de véritables œuvres d’art aux noms évocateurs : « Allez Hop », « Gardezmoi », « Quand ? » et bien d’autres. Malgré son succès, la maison s’éteint avec sa créatrice dans les années 1960. Quarante ans plus tard, séduit par l’originalité de ses parfums, François Hénin décide de lui redonner vie en lançant « Jovoy ». La maison s’inspire de l’esprit romantique de Blanche Arvoy et crée un concept original, la collection « Sept parfums capiteux », qui reprend les sept grandes familles olfactives. De la collaboration avec le parfumeur grassois Robertet vont naître « Terra Incognita », « Poudré », puis « Quand ? ». La réédition du parfum phare de Blanche Arvoy coïncide avec l’ouverture d’un tout nouveau concept store au 29 rue Danielle Casanova, tout près de la Place Vendôme. François Hénin y reçoit des créateurs de maisons de parfums de luxe : Coudray, Rancé, Poiray ou encore M. Micallef. Á l’étage, un atelier olfactif permet de façonner des parfums sur mesure.

During the roaring twenties, the upper crust of Parisian society thronged to number 15, rue de la Paix, to discover a certain Blanche Arvoy’s mellow fragrances. Known as perfumer to the courtesans of Paris, her fragrances were sold in richly decorated bottles which were in themselves works of art, with evocative names such as: “Allez Hop” (Let’s Go), “Gardez-moi” (Keep me), “Quand?” (When?) and many more. In spite of its success, the business did not survive its founder on her death in the 1960s. Forty years later, impressed by her unusual perfumes, François Hénin decided to bring her business back to life by launching “Jovoy”. Inspired by Blanche Arvoy’s romantic spirit, the entrepreneur has created an original concept, “seven cardinal perfumes”, featuring the seven main olfactory groups. Three perfumes, “Terra Incognita” (Unknown land), “Poudré” (Powder) and “Quand?” (When?) have been developed in collaboration with the Grasse based perfumer Robertet. The reissue of Blanche Arvoy’s flagship perfume coincides with the opening of a new concept store at 29, rue Danielle Casanova, near the Place Vendôme. François Hénin will accommodate other luxury perfume designers, for example Coudray, Rancé, Poiray or M. Micallef. On the first floor tailor-made perfumes can be created in a perfume workshop.

To find in an art gallery specific paintings reminding scenes felt in oblivion, those one that Fromentin, Guillaumet, Dinet and many others immortalized on canvas, allows connoisseurs to experience genuine emotions.
