fter a stunning loss on Thursday in which they allowed five runs in the bottom of the ninth inning in Kelowna, the Port Angeles Lefties were virtually placed into must-win mode as they fell three games behind division-leader Victoria with ten to play.

Port Angeles continued their hot play on Friday, coming from behind to defeat the Portland Pickles 5â€“4 in a thriller to start the seasonâ€™s final homestand at Civic Field. The Lefties did not arrive back home until 8:30 Friday morning after a nine-hour bus ride back from Canada. With the score tied and two outs in the top of the ninth inning, Austin Lively looked as if he had given Portland the lead with a runner on third base. He blooped a fly ball into center field where Gavin Rork came in and made a full-extension, diving catch to save the day. Continued

Diego Altamarino singled up the middle to start the ninth for the Lefties, his first hit with the team in 17 at-bats. Brad Altomarie drew a walk before Jonny Chavez – a normal starting pitcher pressed into outfield duty – dropped down a bunt single to load the bases. Rork then lined a ball to right-center to score pinch-runner Carson Jackson and set off a celebration just behind the pitchers’ mound at Civic Field.

The Lefties fell behind early on Saturday and never caught up in a 9–6 defeat to Portland. League-leading home run hitter Matt Christian hit his twelfth and final blast of the season in the defeat. Tommy Takayoshi also singled in two runs as the Lefties attempted to rally in the ninth, plating three before Damiano Palmegiani and Brandon Silowka were retired to end the contest.

The home team trailed 4–1 at the seventh -inning stretch when they began to rally. Alex Garcia was hit by a pitch and newcomer Rhys De Highden singled on the infield. Diego Altamarino then reached on an error to load the bases. Port Angeles now faces a six-game, home and home series with Victoria to end the season. The Lefties need to win five of the six matchups in order to reach the playoffs. The first three games of the series will be played at Civic Field before the teams hop on a ferry Friday morning to play the last three contests of the regular season in Canada.

Corvallis rode the arm of Tevita Gerber to victory, as he allowed just two hits and two unearned runs while striking out 14 in 5.2 innings. Joe Kinsky battled for the Lefties, throwing 126 pitches while walking 10 batters and giving up just four hits.
