Festival of Trees Boasts Fun for Everyone G

ingerbread houses and take-home photos with Santa will be featured at Family Days during Festival of Trees November 30 – December 1. The event is presented by The Lodge at Sherwood Village, Fifth Avenue Retirement Center and Sherwood Assisted Living.

Youngsters will be able to have their photo taken with Santa from 12 Noon to 2 p.m. each day. They will be printed immediately so that attendees will be able to take the photos home with them.

“Festival of Trees is the local kickoff of the holiday season,” said OMC Executive Director Bruce Skinner. “And the most popular feature of Festival of Trees during the weekend is the area youth’s first glimpse of Santa.”

Many accomplished designers and businesses have stepped up to create wonderful gingerbread structures, said Festival of Trees Chair Lindsay Fox. The houses will only be on display at Family Days, which will run from 10:00 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Community Center will be the place to be,” said Fox. The Festival begins Friday morning, with the annual Teddy Bear Tea. This wildly popular event will kick off the weekend and will feature parents and children enjoying live entertainment, holiday refreshments, and visits from Santa.

Family Days will also feature entertainment and many other games for kids.

The Festival of Trees Gala presented by First Federal will feature the auctioning of over 50 Christmas trees, and will be held at 5:30 p.m.

Fund a Need In Memory of Jim Cammack

F

ew people have made as great an impact on healthcare on the North Olympic Peninsula than Jim Cammack.

Cammack passed away last summer, but not before leaving a mark on all that he touched, especially as it pertains to healthcare.

Cammack came to Port Angeles and was the head pharmacist for Pay ‘n Save from 1970-1983. He then opened his own pharmacy with wife Barbara in 1983, which he ran for 20 years before selling it to his son, Joe. He served as a member of the OMC Foundation Board of Directors for over 20 years, and was an OMC Commissioner from 2003-2018. He supported many Foundation events, most notably the Duck Race (he was a top seller), and Festival of Trees. Most years he purchased a tree or two in the event’s auction.

He took great pride in being a commissioner, giving guidance and input along the way.

“He had a unique blend of being a great guy, having an understanding of medicine

and its nuances, and a business sense that made sure there was a return on investment,” said his son Joe. “At the store, he spent a great deal of his time doing good deeds every day and made it part of the culture. It was his philosophy to give back to those who helped you – customers, organization and staff,” Joe continued.

He was also a founding member of Rotary Nor’Wester and served as the group’s president.

Some of those older toys are amazingly creative. My children certainly enjoyed them and now my grandchildren are enjoying some of the hundreds collected by my brother in law. This tree is dedicated to Anton “Bill” Cable, and the child in all of us.
