WHAT DOES THE OMC FOUNDATION DO? IN THE PAST TWO YEARS THE OMC FOUNDATION HAS DONATED: TWO STATE OF THE ART CT SCANS FOR PORT ANGELES AND SEQUIM The new equipment will enable patients to be examined locally instead of having to travel out of the area. It provides much better imaging for the heart, cancer and other diseases. ($1,220,000 donated to date)

OMC HEALTHCARE SCHOLARSHIP FUND

The OMC Foundation has announced that it has created a $400,000 scholarship program to help increase the number of healthcare workers in Clallam County, and to allow current OMC employees to further their education.

CANCER CENTER DONATIONS Helped to fund the Cancer Center's new linear accelerator ($335,000) Also purchased an Adaptiiv Bolus System, Connex Spot Monitor, and funded Palliative Care (totaling $137,265)

PROGRAMS FUNDED EVERY YEAR: PATIENT NAVIGATOR PROGRAM The Patient Navigator program is designed to provide services and resources for lower income cancer patients to help guide patients through the health care system so they can focus on treatment and well-being.

CHILDRENS CLINIC: REACH OUT AND READ At well child visits at the OMC Children's Clinic, we give each child a new, developmentallyappropriate book to take home with them. For some of the families that this program serves do not have many books at home.

OMC CARES OMC Cares is a program that benefits Olympic Medical Center employees that are having emergency situations. This includes rental assistance, grocery cards, utility payments, and more. This effort was increased during these high-stressed times for OMC first responder workers.

PEDIATRICS/CHILDRENS CLINIC In addition to the Reach Out and Read program below, funds were raised to purchase a portable screening instrument that measures hearing in infants and children, an audiometer, and a VS100 Spot Vision Screener totaling $20,000.

HEART CENTER DONATIONS Raised funds for a mobile c-arm x-ray unit that will provide the support needed for new leadless pacemaker program at the OMC Heart Center ($245,000). Also helped to purchase a cardiovascular ultrasound and EKG machines ($95,000).

OTHER OMC DONATIONS Other major donations made to other departments at OMC totaled over $375,000 and included: Emergency Generator for the new OMC Medical Office Building Biofire lab testing equipment that provides another reliable source of testing for COVID-19 and other illnesses, such as influenza.

HEALTHCARE & COMMUNITY SUPPORT: In addition to funding the important items above at Olympic Medical Center, the OMC Foundation helps to support healthcare by donating towards the Peninsula College Nursing and Medical Assistant Programs, North Olympic Healthcare Network, and high school programs in Port Angeles in Sequim.

Finally, for their support in making our events happen the Foundation supports many local organizations including: Olympic Peninsula Rowing Association, Boys & Girls Clubs, Port Angeles Lions Club, Captain Joseph House Foundation, Peninsula College Men's & Women's Basketball, Franklin Elementary PTO, Crescent Senior Class, Port Angeles High School Programs (Senior Class, Wrestling, Tennis, Basketball, Football, Orchestra, Band, Choir & Video Production)

2023 Littlejohn Award: Edna Petersen There are few people who have been involved in more events and non-profit organizations in Clallam County than Edna Petersen.

“There have been lots of chapters in my life where I have been a volunteer,” said Petersen, “and all of them have been here.”

A member of the PAHS Class of 1958, she has been a part of almost every local event at one time or another, including all six of the OMC Foundation’s fundraising events.

Her involvement began when she moved as a youth to Port Angeles in 1955. She became a member of the YMCA’s TriHi-Y program, which taught people how to become involved in the community and government.

From there she went on to give her time to the Monroe PTA when she “sold hot dogs for lunch,” and most other community events benefitted from her participation thereafter.

She is perhaps most remembered for volunteering for Hurricane Ridge winter sports activities – “we skied as a family,” Petersen said. She also has been with the Port Angeles Chamber for 65 years, winning the organization’s Legacy Award last year.

She didn’t win that award by serving as any organization’s President or chair, but by serving behind the scenes instead.

“When an event ends you need people to vacuum and to take out the garbage,” she said.

“We live in an amazing community. I have been fortunate to be involved with so many people who give and do so much to make this area a better place to live.”

She has raised money for Olympic Medical Center at every Foundation event, including the Red, Set, Go Heart Luncheon, the Great Olympic Peninsula Duck Derby, Hog Wild, the Sonny Sixkiller UW Celebrity Golf Classic, Harvest Hope and Festival of Trees.

“I enjoy Festival of Trees because there isn’t a segment of the community that it doesn’t touch. There are many youth groups who support the event by volunteering, as well as many other groups who decorate trees and wreaths, entertain, provide food, and many more duties.”

As a realtor for 14 years and the owner of Necessities and Temptation store for almost 25 years, she contributed funds and many items for events, in addition to helping put them on. “I felt that it was important to give back to the community when I was in business. What I miss most about the store is the people I used to see and the friendships I developed,” she said.

“By volunteering, I’m still able to see a lot of them.”

The Littlejohn Legacy It was just another case of Bill LIttlejohn and his wife Esther going above and beyond in the support of nonprofit organizations on the North Olympic Peninsula. Bill and Esther gave the initial gift of $100,000 that kicked off the successful campaign.

Most people thought the Olympic Medical Center Foundation would be very fortunate to raise $500,000 for its capital campaign for the Cancer Center. But not Bill Littlejohn – as the capital campaign chair for the cancer center expansion, he set a fundraising goal of $1 million. That was exceeded by $300,000 (over $1 million for the expansion, the rest for equipment in the new facility).

It is just one of many things that Bill and Esther have done for the OMC Foundation.

They have supported Festival of Trees, Red, Set, Go, Harvest of Hope and the Duck Derby, the latter for almost 30 years.

When Bill passed away in 2019 the Foundation decided to establish an award in his honor. It annually recognizes people who have contributed to healthcare on the Peninsula and to the community in general. .

But their support of the community only begins there. On an annual basis, Bill and Esther have supported the Boys and Girls Club, the Peninsula College Nursing program, Sequim Museum and Arts Center, the Dungeness Health and Wellness Clinic, the Dungeness River Audubon Center, the North Olympic Land Trust, Captain Joseph House, the Sequim YMCA, the Sequim Irrigation Festival, the Olympic Peninsula Humane Society, the Peninsula Friends of Animals, and several other organizations. They also have created a scholarship fund for students who attend college or vocational school.
