founded in the ’40s, had one location, one van for home delivery, and nine employees.

The company expanded and in 2000, Fashion Cleaners acquired Omaha Lace Laundry. What is the history of your company?

I

HAD BEEN SETTING UP at comic book shows in the area and wanted to try my hand

at retailing. In 1993, I took a loan against our car and away I went. The store has moved twice, and each time we’ve had the fortune to grow the business. We’ve gone from 1,000 square feet of space to our current 5,000. We’re also adding a 1,500-square-foot game room expansion this winter. We are family owned and operated; my 13-year-old daughter and 9-year-old son have decided they are ready to take over any time I’m ready to retire.

REMIER VOLLEYBALL IS A nonprofit corporation and a registered junior program affiliate of USA Volleyball. The club is directed by Rick Welch. Premier Volleyball was established in 1997 with only two teams and four coaches. Premier Volleyball organizes and manages teams for all USA volleyball age groups (11 through 18). We take pride in producing competitive teams in all age groups while maintaining a fun learning approach and competing at the highest level.

How have you evolved and grown over the years?

REMIER VOLLEYBALL HAS GROWN over the last 16 years by adding teams as

we grew our staff. We are teamed up with leading edge strength and conditioning specialists that come from over 30 years of proven success and research. We pride ourselves in having one of the most consistent and accredited coaching staff in the state. We continue to provide continuing education for our coaching staff in order to provide a consistent, quality experience for all our athletes and teams. All Premier Volleyball coaches have USA Volleyball certifications and due to the dynamic nature of the sport and technology, several of our Premier Coaches have received their USA Volleyball CAP certification. This is based on sound principles in the areas of skills development, tactical systems, physical training, motor learning, sports psychology, and administration.

In what ways do you give back to the community?

EING A SUCCESSFUL NONPROFIT organization and working with children in

a positive environment is a priority for Premier Volleyball coaches and staff. Having athletes, coaches, and families that assist with community involvement is also a priority.

Premier Volleyball began its relationship with the Special Olympics in 2008 through the Premier Volleyball Golf Outing. Helping with Special Olympics Nebraska (SONE) by raising funds, conducting volleyball clinics and assisting with the SONE Summer Games are several ways our members give back to the community.

What honors and recognition has your company received?

REMIER VOLLEYBALL HAS WON five USA Volleyball National Qualifier

Championships. Last season marked another successful year for Premier. We grew to 26 teams, 257 athletes, 78 team coaches, seven special training coaches, and three strength and conditioning coaches. We competed in 74 Great Plains Gold Tournament Championships and of those 44 Gold Champions and 30 Gold Runner-Ups. At the National level, Premier medaled five times and had 14 top 10 finishes at USA National Qualifiers! Premier also sent the most teams, 11, in the Great Plains Region to the USA Junior Girls’ National Championships!

This not only set a Great Plains Region record for most bids earned by any one club in a given year but also sets the record for the most number of bids earned by second teams in any club. omaha magazine • january/february 2014

TELLA’S IS A RESTAURANT rich in tradition and history. “Stella’s” is the name of

its founder, Estelle Francois Sullivan Tober, Bellevue’s first tavern owner (“Grandma’s”) and the creator of the famous “Stella Hamburger.” Stella’s picture is still prominently displayed in the bar.
