letter from the chair Downtown Omaha is certainly thriving and changing with the renovated Riverfront and construction cranes everywhere. This past year, Omaha Performing Arts made its own significant contribution to those changes! The opening of Steelhouse Omaha on May 12 with a sold-out concert featuring The Killers brought 3,000 enthusiastic fans downtown in celebration of O-pa’s newest venue. It was a night to celebrate and a glimpse of the new bands and concerts Steelhouse will host for our region.

Steelhouse Omaha joins the Holland Performing Arts Center and Orpheum Theater in presenting a broad variety of shows — and all three venues were incredibly busy as they hosted 357,000 patrons and contributed over $61 million in economic impact for our community. Most of all, they provided experiences that brought us together and reminded us of the importance of the performing arts.

We are proud of our world-class venues and have become known as an important destination for the best of touring Broadway, dance, jazz, bands and concerts, family shows and more — performances and experiences that connect to our community, reach audiences of all backgrounds and reflect the diversity of our community. We are grateful to those generous community members and institutions that have supported these efforts.

At Omaha Performing Arts, we’re always keeping an eye towards the future. What else does our community need? The Tenaska Center for Arts Engagement will be our next significant addition to our campus. With the growth of our Education and Engagement programs which touch the lives of nearly a million people, we now need more space to grow to expand these programs and create new ones for people of all ages.

We’re proud to be a part of what makes Omaha such a great place to live. And we’re deeply grateful for the support of our audiences and patrons which makes all of this possible.

letter from the president The 22/23 Season was exhilarating. It was filled with incredible milestones including the opening of the spectacular Steelhouse Omaha, the tenth year of reaching students across the state through the Nebraska High School Theater Academy, and the celebration of my own twentieth anniversary as President of Omaha Performing Arts!

These significant milestones were only a part of the breadth of our performances and activities reaching and engaging diverse audiences and community members through the performing arts. It was inspiring to attend performances by the gifted artists who graced our stages, and the addition of Steelhouse Omaha has now significantly contributed to the arts and entertainment options that we present at the Holland and the Orpheum and beyond — all contributing to Omaha’s quality of life.

My heartfelt thanks to our generous donors, dedicated staff, and supportive community members who attend our shows and contribute to our organization. I also want to express my gratitude to the O-pa and OPAS Foundation Boards of Directors who have been instrumental in guiding and supporting our vision for Omaha. Special thanks to Carl G. Mammel, a passionate supporter and dear friend who has been with us from almost the beginning. He recently retired from the O-pa board, and we are deeply grateful for his leadership and most generous support.

Going forward, we’re now focused on the construction and completion of the Tenaska Center for Arts Engagement that will open in early 2026. It will host our expanding education activities along with programs that are inclusive and engage the diversity of our community including Voices AMPLIFIED!, the new Hip Hop Lab and start of the Pre-K program called Omaha Wolf Trap.

Reflecting on the past twenty years, the growth we've seen is nothing short of extraordinary. From our beginning working closely with our founders, especially Dick Holland and John Gottschalk, and now moving forward under Jack Koraleski’s leadership, we’ve taken this organization to new heights. And there is much more ahead as we expand our campus and performances and activities – all to serve our community for years to come.

Honoring Carl G. Mammel for his extraordinary tenure on the O-pa Board

OPAS Foundation Board of Directors

Community leader and arts advocate Carl G. Mammel recently retired from the Omaha Performing Arts Board of Directors after decades of guiding the growth of the organization. As one of the earliest members of the board and a passionate supporter of O-pa, he has been instrumental in helping to lead and develop the organization to ensure its success and contributions to the community. Carl will continue to serve on the OPAS Foundation board. We at O-pa deeply appreciate his leadership, service and commitment to our mission.

The 22/23 Season of O-pa’s arts and social justice series celebrated the many flavors of Latino/Hispanic culture.

The theme “Sabores de la Cultura Latina” was explored in events like "The Power of Fashion" with Omaha's Fashion Arts Collective, "La Cocina de Abuela" with No More Empty Pots, and “Evita: La revolucionaria with Ballet Hispánico.” The finale event was a full day of music, food, dancing and community at the inaugural Global Sounds Festival presented in partnership with Canopy South at Upland Park.

Young Patrons Circle (YPC)

On September 9, 2022, the Presenters Circle hosted Broadway Ball benefiting O-pa’s Education and Engagement programs. Guests enjoyed a performance from actor Norm Lewis and alumni from the Nebraska High School Theater Academy.

This membership group helps champion O-pa’s Education and Engagement initiatives with events like Twilight on the Terrace.

Guests enjoyed a groovy night on the rooftop supporting Disney Musicals in Schools.
