o good neighbors, old and new: We are delighted to have you as a vital part of our community. Speaking as Mayor of Ralston and on behalf of our city government, we recognize that our citizens are our most important asset. We continue to provide an environment that enriches our community and its residents. Although an island surrounded by much larger cities, we continue as a small town with a “Spirit of Independence.” As you drive by 72nd and Q Streets, you may notice our Ralston Arena complex that hosts the Omaha Lancers, Omaha Beef and Omaha Rollergirls. The arena holds 3,500 to 4,000 people fore various types of events. We have two sheets of ice that provide entertainment for all ages, and the banquet area can be used for weddings, dinners and special gatherings. Behind the arena is a beautiful 270-unit apartment complex. The enthusiasm within Ralston grows with the addition of all newcomers. We bid you all a warm “Spirit of Independence” welcome.

TUNES IN TOWN SQUARE Enjoy some family fun and live music at the Independence Square Gazebo. Food trucks, a bounce house and games are just some of the fun to be had during Tunes in Town Square in summer. CHOCOLATE WALK Get your foursome together and join us at Oak Hills Country Club for the best golf tournament of the year! Entry fee includes golf, cart, range balls, a dinner, drink tickets, amazing

HOLIDAY MAGIC THE GREAT RAL-STEIN FESTIVAL OF BEER This event is all about YOU ... exposure, exposure, exposure! Why? Because we bring you a captive audience. Business sponsors provide a few cases of beer to give away as samples to the general public and get the chance to meet one-on-one with potential customers. The entry fee includes a commemorative glass and unlimited beer samples. The event typically takes place in the fall. Check with the Chamber for date and time.
Ralston’s annual holiday celebration is held the Sunday after Thanksgiving in the downtown area. A full slate of events is scheduled, including caroling, hot cocoa and cookies, lights, and of course, a visit from Santa Claus. Mayor Don Groesser will conduct the Tree Lighting Ceremony at 4 p.m. at the gazebo. Santa takes his customary ride throughout Ralston proper on a fire truck and then makes his way through the downtown area from 3 to 4 p.m. He will then visit with children until 6 p.m. Hot cocoa and cookies will be available during that time to help keep the families
in line warm. Great Western Bank Sponsored horse and carriage rides are available from 4 to 6 p.m. Make sure to walk throughout Downtown Ralston to visit our Downtown Businesses and view their storefronts.Vote on your favorite storefront decorations by visiting the Ralston Area Chamber of Commerce page at Facebook. com/RalstonAreaChamber. After a visit with Santa, we encourage all to attend the Ralston Volunteer Fire Department’s chili feed from 5 to 7 p.m. at the fire station, 7629 Park Drive. Donations are accepted for the chili feed.
RALSTON WINE WALK Walk historic downtown Ralston and sample wine at the annual Ralston Wine Walk. Start at the gazebo at 77th and Main Streets to receive a wristband, map and commemorative wine glass. Visit downtown businesses from 5 to 8 p.m. to sample local wines. Ollie the Trolley will offer rides to and from the gazebo and Bushwacker’s. The 2020 walk will be in April. Check with the Chamber for date and time. www.ralstonareachamber.org

AWARDS BANQUET AND AUCTION This annual event raises money for six Chamber scholarships for worthy students from Ralston High School, plus one scholarship from a private donor in honor of retired educator Gene Seran. Awards are also presented to the Business of the Year, New Business of the Year, Business Person of the Year, Citizen of the Year and Volunteer of the Year. The evening consists of a social hour, silent auction, dinner presentations, awards and an oral auction. Everyone walks away with something special! The event will be in November 2020. FIRE DEPARTMENT INFORMATION
T
he Ralston Fire Department was organized in 1932 by several local residents and businessmen. Since that time the department has incorporated. The City of Ralston contracts with Ralston Fire & Rescue Inc. to provide fire suppression and advanced life support EMS. The Ralston Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad, Inc. is located at 7629 Park Drive in Ralston. Currently, the station
consists of three apparatus bays, with two housing engines and one housing ambulances and a rescue truck. The station has a large training room where members train and meetings are held. There is a bunk room in which firefighters can stay the night if they choose, a workout gym and an upstairs lounge with easy access to the training room, kitchen and bathrooms. The main administrative office is located on the first level.

STOP THE BLEED
The Ralston Fire Department has partnered with the American Red Cross for a program called “Sound the Alarm.� This program allows us to install smoke alarms in Ralston residences free of charge. To request this service, call the fire station at 402-331-5369.
This program has been apart of the department for more then 30 years. It is held in the fall and teaches fourth grade students about fire and EMS topics and how to be safe by creating fire escape plans for your house and locating fire hazards.
The Ralston Fire Department has created an explorer program for kids between the ages of 14 and 18 in high school. These kids meet on Monday nights and learn every aspect of being a firefighter. For details, contact the fire station at 402-331-5369.
This program helps teach people of all ages what to do in a traumatic incident and the importance of stopping the bleed when someone has a serious injury. Multiple instructors make it possible to offer classes at your convenience.

#ONERALSTON Ralston has a unique community spirit that goes beyond the walls of its schools. “One Ralston” is a sort of motto or campaign that came about organically. It shows the strength of support the schools enjoy from all across Ralston. From parents to alumni, businesses to the mayor’s office, the community is always behind its schools.
